My point is this: There's only so much they're gonna be able to do. The bots are not going to be able to tell when you want to sneak around the side, or when you won't want anycover, or when you want them all to charge the base. And if you had to issue them orders, don't you think that goes against the whole point of multiplayer, then? Might as well run Campaign instead.
They're not putting bots in.
Do you not communicate with team-members when assaulting enemy bases? It's perfectly possible to set up a bot system that DOES do if not all, quite a few of those things, like 'guard the base' and 'cover me' or even 'freelance' (all of these commands were in the original Unreal Tournament, which was out, well, a very long time ago).
Having said that, there's no way for a bot to simulate proper human responses to situations, like effective uses of environment (Hmm, if I throw a nade at that hog, it might just squish him...) or comradeship ("GG all! GG!"... actually, that would probably be fairly easy to code...) or, the hardest one to emulate, human stupidity (OH SHI- incoming! Quick, dodge over the cliff!).
There are workable ideas, especially the ones with the equalising bots with skill levels linked to kill/death ratios, however the AI system for the singleplayer campaign cannot be direcly imported to the multiplayer, as aims, tactics, hell, picking up weapons and EVERYTHING would need to be changed- they might as well write a whole new AI. It might be a nice mini-addon, but I'd rather they spent more time on the netcode and working out bugs.
