I think that everyone should post their Connection upload and download speeds that you can get off this site: http://myspeed.visualware.com/
Download: 33.4 kbs
Upload: 12.9 kbs
Horrible isnt it? My internet icon says that it is connected at 45.2 kbs. Guess what? I am suposed to be getting a 52.2 kbs connection. Whats even worse? My computer has gigabit ethernet, two of them actually.

I think that we can all agree on that the game should detect our speed automaticaly and set the network settings appropriatly. What I think that doesent help is that the default option in halo pc/ce is a low dsl connection. If you dont change it you could create lag for yourself and the whole server is you are a 56k connection.

Here is The_Blackness's post with paragraphs, for all of who are too -blam!- lazy to read a long paragraph.
The_Blackness:
My god what some of you people think of.

what the hell are you talking about with adding 32 player support? halo was not designed to work with 32 people! this would completely change the experience, perhapes in the future 32 people would work fine, but as it is no. pelicans? i understand the desire for something like that, but the current maps (and probably all future OFFICIAL maps) are not designed for something like that. longsword?!?! what the hell! a long sword was designed for space combat! so what map exactly is going to have the enormous size to actually make them fit in the halo universe? Assualt game types? this is a computer PORT people, not a Halo 2.5 release. It is sad that halo 2 is only being released for Vista, but as it is (and i dont know much about the technical specifications of vista), vista could very well be much more optimised for computer gaming, and thus a better halo experience, and a XP port as well would use alot of resourses, and what do you want more Halo 2 for XP and Vista, or Halo 3? (yes i am aware that bungie its self is not doing the port, and that halo 3 has not been officialy announced, but bungie still has some people on the job).

As for 56k support, it is not capable of keeping up with TODAYS games, but despite what you may think 56k can run games like starcraft and warcraft with no lag, so sorry to say it but if you have 56k you do not belong in halo 2 or any other of todays games, go play a blizzard title. also who ever said that 56k would be "gone" before halo 2 for pc comes out, what the hell? halo 2 vista will probably come out in 2007, it doesnt take too long to port a game, and with how the communications industry is going, 56k wont be gone untill 2015.

Life is hard, and its not always fair, get over it, harsh but true.

In a post by boo diddly he said that halo 2 was made on the same hardware that halo 1 was made on, yes very true, but because all xbox consoles are the same, you dont have to worry about upcoming hardware, or compatability issues (to a point), that and maximum efficiency (or as close to), of system resources wasnt reached untill about halo 2, so there is that whole thing with halo 1 being quite wasteful. another thing is that xbox's on your tv run a resolution of what? 640 by 480? thats a pretty crappy resolution when using a pc, so your going to need something significantly more powerful than the xbox to run a decent res of 1280 by 1024.

as for multiplayer being similar to the xbox's matchmaking, that would be just fine for ranked games, but if you want to play customs, a server list would be the best bet, and then everyone gets the best of both worlds. as has been said before, pc versus xbox players, is bad because (sorry to say it but its true) a pc is better suited to First Person Shooter games, so there is an im balance right there, and it would make it easier for griefers to do things like bridging, which leads to spawn mods, and other nastiness. yes its true that halo 2 will be big for vista, but they are asking you to reformat your computer, and learn a new operating system, so im sure there will be some nice additives like hang'em high, and sidewinder, but if all else fails, there is always the mod community.

Mars Ai 55 what were you getting at with that last paragraph? the mod community somehow encouraged cheaters? so we should destroy the modding community? yes some of the modding community helped cheaters but its not to blame.

Auto Aim is mostly to assist people with analogue sticks, it should be unnesesary in a pc title, but im not sure it should be outlawed, dont really know what i think about that just yet. sure new models would be fun wouldnt it? but the distorts the halo universe, so now marines flood, spartans, grunts, hunters, brutes, jackels and bugs all have the same charecteristics? lets see, do they all have shields? no, do they all have Mjolnir mark 6 armor? nope, are they all human? again no, so that doesnt really work well but would be fun. and balancing the elite and spartan would be dificult, if its possible... hey wet base, yeah lets make it so that the 360 gets all the extra features that pc version might get, because that wouldnt defeat the purpose of making a game port at all now would it? not to mention the 360's emulator would have to be updated to fix any problems it would have with the original xbox because that wont get jack, you dont even like the idea of a pc first person shooter maybe when you try it it will be better.

Iamwhie you mean that when you join a server with customised content it will automaticaly download it, and install it for you like Unreal Tournament does? yes that would be nice, but to have it auto maticaly download ALL custom content when you go online might be alittle problematic :). alot of the things that i see in here are great, like bot support, but you need to keep in mind this is a port.

So now that is straightend out, how about alittle positive input?

- complete physics engine featuring Rag Doll Physics (bump).
- EXTENSIVE map editing tools, similar to but not limited to something like Unreal Editor, or hammer.
- Spectator Mode.
- Online Co-op mode .
-small internal media player so i can beat some ass to my favorite songs, mostly so i dont have to alt tab to get off of a crappy song.
- internal video recording for montages, and other assorted videos.
- a simple way to turn off the hud ^.
- Voice Over IP (mic's).
- Bonus content to really sell the game, maps, game types, perhapes some videos of its creation or something.
- vote kick system for griefers.
- server side kick option for high pings.

thats about enough for now, sorry for gramatical and spelling errors, and offensivness for you sensitive readers out there.

Download: 3 megabits per second.

Upload: 256 Killabits per second.

Thanks for making my large post easier to read Boo_Diddly

Elmicker DUDE. please i dont mean to be cruel but dont talk about things you dont know much about. let me just dismantle your post quick.

residential connections CANNOT handle the bandwidth needed for a FPS multiplayer game, even if you have a server machine on your connection running a dedicated one, there's no way it can run.

ok first off a multiplayer server sends out around 256kbps - 1mbps depending on how many people are in the game that range would probably be from 8 - 32 players respectively (sorry i do not know the specifics), all a server does is say who is in the game, what is in the game, and where everything is, it doesnt take much upload bandwidth, what does slow it all down is a slow computer, the processory needs to able to POWER through the information its recieving, and then send it on its way. its the same sort of thing when it comes to actually playing the game, the main cause of lag is that your computer is unable to render all that information on screen, and process it to send it to the server, so if you have a intel pentium 2, with a 100mbps upload/download you will lag just as much as someone with a 56k connection and the best computer money can buy.

Wait a minute, are you saying that Bungie has announced the release of Halo 2 PC! This is so typical. The one time I'm not able to look at the website, Bungie announces the big news. If this is true, please direct me to the forum on which they announced this.
Also, answering the thread, there are a couple of things I would like to see in Halo 2 PC. For one, I personally would like to have a splitscreen and co-op mode because I have a game controller and I would really like to play halo 2 with my brother. Also, put the gravity rifle from Halo CE in the game. That was a really good gun. Lastly, I know you didn't give the fuel rod gun the Halo 2 Xbox, but please give it to Halo 2 PC! You gave it to us in the last Halo PC, and I don't think I could play multiplayer without it.

Residential connections can support servers. Many dedicated servers on hpc are residential, and that had horrible net code.

My speeds are: Download 2.05 mbps
Upload 664 kbps

I don't think we have an agreement on the mod tools. Some people want an easy to use thing. I dont cause that will sacrifice some stuff.

Lol Blackness, np man...

Yeah, i wud not like no more than 16 players due to over crowding and spamming, Halo is very good as it has very little spamming, apart from text ofcourse. I think they should include the E3 demo as a bonus feature on the extras, a lot of people would love to play that.

I want a release date now lol, i recomend a hunt on for the release date! lol

Hmmm well i think they should at make a max of 32 or 36, besides if someone wants to join a 36 player server then go ahead, if someone doesn't then don't join the server and go to other servers with less people. It's all about what you prefer, and thank to a server browser you can choose. :)

Besides there a current gen game that only been out for what 5 months that supports 64 players and people make those 64 player servers too. It's a little game called call of duty 2 with you know genrades, smoke genrades, along people making mods that makes random artillery explosions, etc etc. So 32 or 36 players is very realistic for halo 2.

extremeflyboy222... its on the front page man, if you are still unable to find it click right here

The Electronics Entertainment Expo Demo was great, it looked like alot of fun, chances are it wont be in there, as you might remember bungie said it was filled with glitches and errors.

Where are you guys getting these stupid(sorry had to say it) ideas about 32 players. Halo is not Halo without the up to 16 players only.

They arent stupid! There ppls ideas. Anyways, halo would be great with more ppl. Unreal tournament 2k4 does great with 32 ppl. And battlefield 2 Does awsome with 64!!! All bungie would have to do is add some type of conquest or
a very much large scale Teritories map. IT wouldnt be hard it would just add a new experience to hte game that the ppl that do like that kind of gameplay to play with. It doesnt meen u would have to.

Further were talking about Computers not xbox's. PCs are totaly growing the little xbox will always be simaler to waht it is. PCs will come that will suport even more ppl. Or at least the conecction will alow it. Anyone heard of FireWire ITs SBCs next type of highspeed cable. ITs fiber Optic man 8p

OK, well can you imagine a remake of blood gultch on halo 2 for pc, with guys battling each other with 32or 36. Or day i saw 64 players at a time!!!!!!! It would just be maddness, also the maps are big enough to have that many players without spawn killing, etc. Well, 16 is still fine though, but I'm just saying it's not urealistic and if they add that kind of support, then it would help and not be worse.

Also, remember years ago when the orginal doom came out, it could only support 4 or 8 players in a lan. Well now, that internet speeds have increased we can support a max of 64 players online fromaround the globe. Our technology hasimproved that much. Who knows maybe in another decade well be supporting 400 something players in a single online match. Hey our advances in technology are becoming faster and faster.

Yes Unreal does have some great matches like that. so does battlefield 2, but lets not forget they are different games, with different game experiences, not to mention making new maps would take acouple of people around a month per map, thats just for concept, design and implementation, dont forget about balancing, testing, and fixing. so again its a port, these things sound fun though, but not for what we have right now, also the game experience for halo is aimed at small team strategy.

no blood gulch, or as it is now called coagulation, would not support that many people well, the problem is chaos, taking away from the intended expereince, thats one thing im concerned about with halo 3 will the game be completely different because the hardware allows?

so long as the editor and the game are done well, we can expect some amazing things from the modding community.

Heyyo,

Err... Haloman? http://ps.mmotheatre.com/ that's a site where you can check videos of PlanetSide.. it's a MMO-FPS. I think up to 1000-5000 players per server... Planetside's been out as long as Halo1PC, maybe even longer.

and... http://www.huxleygame.com/ is an mmofps based on the unreal warfare engine 3 coming out sometime this year, they say it'll do up to 5000 players per server.. which's rediculous cause no computer will run it smooth with that many I bet, lmao.

Anywho, back ontopic. I say 16 players in halo turned out good, but what I hope is they make the maps bigger and put it up to 20 players to give the game more action, that I'd like.

I hope they keep the fuel rod gun out of halo2pc multiplayer, cause imo it ruined Halo1PC multiplayer. Anyone who couldn't kill with a pistol ran for this darn n00bcannon everytime.

Uhhhhh first two pars. i don't know why you typed that up but whatever, anyway
I don't really see the newto add more weapons as the stock weapons are fine, but more weapons are good

Ummmm I don't see why you typed that up, talking about the first two par.

Anyways you don't need to add more weapons but still more weapons the better as long as the weapon isn't unbalanced. I'm talking about more weapons in multiplayer not singleplayer

i didnt mean there was a specific small team strategy game type (team skirmish, team slayer are both dominated with strategy), but what i meant was to excell you need strategy, in unreal acouple of skillful shots and your oponent is dead, in halo it tends to take alittle more. that and in halo its meant to be alittle more personal, you see someone coming and you can generally tell who it is, in unreal its just another target. also in halo its harder to be completely overwhelmed like you might be in a game that supports alot more people, sure ive been in big team and had 8 people shooting at me, but generally its just double teamed. so adding more people will change the halo experience but im not sure whether it will be for better or worse.

im really looking forward to huxly, and i would assume that there would be many cities and players stretched throughout them all, that way you would only recieve information about those charecters that can actually influece you, or your environment and not everyone at the same time.

This has already been suggested, but I think a slight modification should be put on the energy sword to make it slightly less powerful. Maybe a 5% loss of energy per swing and a 15% loss per running slash.

Also previously said, wouldn't it be nice to have a new version of Hang 'Em High for H2PC?

So the Energy Sword, its an ultimate short range weapon, the problems with the energy sword are not that bad, sure you might expect it to have some energy loss, but once you reach the higher levels of around 30 (not pro but higher), you will only get afew kills with it. generally when someone comes at me with a sword i stick them, or i inform my team mates of its position as soon as i respawn, and we work together to take out the threat. even if they play defensively with it, its still only going to get them acouple of kills, because then hes not out and about finding people. i like to have a sword at my back when im sniping though, that can be very effective. So the last thing would be the pit (rumble pit ; ), depending on how good people are, and the swordsmans luck, he could clean the floor with you (or dirty it...), but alot of the time he will get afew before being ganged, or a rocket gets him.

What would be nice is an improvement on the shotgun, now that we are moving to pc there will be dedicated servers, and to run a server that people will actually play on it has to be dedicated, and you cant play on a pc that is doing that, so there will be no more host anything, and right now that chunk of steel is a chunk of crap.

Hang'em High... at first i hated hang'em high, mostly because it was just me and my buddy playing on an overly large level. but to play that level with more people could be alot of fun, and prisoner rockets could fun for about 2 seconds too. (Note to Modding Community: remake some of the old maps just as they were! like longest, im not sure what it is in elongation, perhapes the boxes, but i dont like it nearly as much. also didnt i read that bungie removed some of the "fox holes" to improve game fluidity? then what the hell are the boxes supposed to do???)

5000 people per server may seem like alot, but if you have been on a Massively Multiplayer Online Game, you would see that generally there arnt very many people around you at any one time. In Everquest i generally didnt see more than 20 actual people at a time, although there is considerably more people.
