Wild theory, but maybe the Flood are being controlled by something even greater than the Gravemind. Maybe the whole Covenant-Human War was being influenced from the beginning. No doubt Halo 4 leaves so many questions and our first answer may reside in this planet-structure.

I wonder whether the Assembly will serve any role in the future of Halo. They're adamant that humanity shouldn't use Forerunner technology, ive always liked to play with the thought that that's similar to how Nazara tells you that organic races use the technology of the Reapers to develop down the path the Reapers desire.

So many questions. What could be brewing at the Ark Portal, what was found on Kholo? Breathtaking.

Maybe Frankie will take inspiration from my Revolutions story? ;)

Miss Isabella, wasn't it? I personally loved that story. But I fear we are getting off-topic now.

Actually, it's Marathon Mars and I refuse to accept anything otherwise ever.
That theory has been proven wrong many times. I believe the last time you tried to prove it you brought up this thread

The info in that thread was debunked a long while ago.

Halo does not equal Marathon.

As for the topic I've always thought the celestial body was Forerunner. The question is what is it, as it might not actually be a planet, and if it is a planet, which planet is it and where is it?

Personally I'm more curious as to how much time has passed between Halo 3 and 4.

"The measure of a man is what he does with power"-Plato

It's forerunner definitely you can tell by its architecture.

Still I can't help keep thinking it's a sword instillation.

Everytime someone sacks my groceries, I think of Loaf.

Forerunners had plenty of shield worlds. This could be any of them. Onyx, the one in Halo Wars, or the others....but most likely the Onyx one just so they can please the people that have read the books.

Because it CAN'T be Onyx.

I could never understand the debate that it is Reach. There is really no basis to the argument.

I've been saying for a few years now, that Mendicant Bias has brought John to the Forerunners, as a sign of his atonement. That structure at the end of Halo 3, and in the Halo 4 teaser, is undoubtedly Forerunner in origin.

How about we stay on topic? There is a dedicated thread about Reach and it's issues, many a good thread has been derailed by flame wars that flare up over Halo: Reach.

Yet these assumptions are unfounded. Reach may have it's story issues, but that doesn't mean the overall story is ruined. However, the issue with the location Chief is floating to just isn't Onyx. It's way too big and definitely not surrounded by Sentinels. Nothing warrants 343 has messed anythign up.

I don't need a basis for that.

Well, you say you wouldn't by surprised if they said "It's Onyx!". Why?

Everytime someone sacks my groceries, I think of Loaf.

Because they don't have to follow story. They can conjure up some half wit idea to make it onyx.

For example:

The ship was traveling for years and they arrived at onyx which is now outside of UNSC space due to the war and lack of resources. (stupid I know, someone tried to convince of this)

Or my favorite...

Onyx moved with forerunner technology.............................. -__-

The basis that he was apparently disappointed with Halo Reach and assumes what he calls a mistake will occur again. They are not basing it on anything other then their distrust with Bungie, which generally should be waved as they are allegedly not in any way directly involved with Halo 4.

I as usual maintain a general statement on game predictions. The only tru7h we know is that we know next to nothing. we can of course theorize and brainstorm, but the sad fact is that 343, and much less M$ cant exactly base the entire game off of every book's loose end, and make everything perfectly mesh. There have been so many changing of writers, and dev teams, it's just not going to happen.

I'm not even sure where the series if going, but, while I wanted to devote a huge thread to my idea, I might as well hint at it here.

I have a feeling the game is moving into focus the relationship between Cortana and John. I'm worried that the smart-AI end-of-life might be starting to show. I'm too lazy to check, but I cant remember how long Halsey said it took before a smart AI ruined themselves, I have a feeling Cortana's link with Gravemind hastened this gradual decline. I feel, and sorta hope the story shifts to show their relationship, as a mother figure, and guardian.

Regardless of which planet that is, I think the core will be about them, but who knows.

Kurt destroyed a city within Onyx, not the planet/sentinels themselves. They're inside Onyx or wherever that micro dyson sphere is. People refer to it as Onyx smart ass. Read the book over.

Righteous indignation does not equal real knowledge. What surface the planet had fell apart when the massive group of Sentinels it was primarily composed of woke up and started kicking ass. Remember the scene where they fragged that big ol' group of Covenant ships that tracked Halsey and the remnants of Blue team? Can't very well do that from the inside of a micro-Dyson sphere that's only a couple meters across in real space, eh? Particularly since Halsey and the Spartans have no real idea how it works and no idea how to get out of it. The Sentinels are not inside the sphere. The planet is gone, although to be fair it wasn't ever really a planet to begin with, it was hundreds of millions of hibernating Sentinels.

Before you start telling others to fact check, you should fact-check yourself. Because annoyance doesn't mask ignorance.

Given that my copy of the book is in storage, the Halopedia will have to do for now:
Onyx's surface, as mentioned before, was composed of seemingly infinite amounts of Sentinels, with a massive Forerunner city hidden under the terraformed ground layer. Under the surface, there was a vast network of underground tunnels and installations, including a map room and an immense Sentinel production facility under the northern polar region.

In the core of Onyx, there was a large room, the Core Room Antechamber. It contained a slipspace rift that would be open for a short time after the Halo Array was put into standby mode, allowing evacuation to the Micro Dyson Sphere within, acting as an escape from the Array's destructive firing.

The Dyson Sphere habitat located wholly within a maintained slipspace bubble, which in normal space, is only some meters in diameter, has a diameter of approximately 300 million kilometers. The megastructure has a habitable, terraformed surface and in the center, a G2-type star to provide terrestrial lighting

The shield world that the Slipspace bubble contains is NOT Onyx, and it does NOT exist in real space. It is a world contained within the Slipspace bubble.

Also, it should be noted that:
At the conclusion of the battle, Onyx was effectively destroyed...
Onyx was toast.

For good measure, we can turn to Wikipedia as well:
Hiding at a distance from Onyx, the Dusk watches as Onyx's surface rips apart to reveal that the entire world is constructed of Sentinels, all connected together to provide an impenetrable defense around the Dyson Sphere at the heart of the planet.(All italics added for emphasis)
If need be, I can dig my copy of the book out of storage on Monday and slap you silly with that, too.
In summary, YOU go read the book over, clown.

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

I honestly don't know why people are still debating otherwise.

I've been saying it for almost 4 years, all one has to do is look at it and you can immediately see the shield and sword glyph shown on Shield Worlds and the Halos.

Frankie and Bonnie have stated that CE Anniversary will feature Terminals tying into the story of Halo 4. From all the information gathered from Halo 3's Terminals and other sources we know the Forerunners left the Orion Arm of the galaxy. MB wants to atone and sends John to his masters as his example, it could not be made more clear.

And then there's this. The monoliths are very similar to the ones in the Portal Artefact on Earth, everything points to this planet being Forerunner.

I just want to draw a final consensus here where we can all agree.

I agree.
