I've been snooping on the web for the past 6 months or so just seeing what's going on on othe Windows front, and I can't believe that anybody is getting excited about Vista. Well, I guess those that have been using Windows XP might be a little excited, but anybody that has gotten a clue already realizes that MS is way behind in the OS market.
I know flames are going to start about how Microsoft is obviously ahead when it comes to OS's because Windows dominates the market, but that's not what I'm talking about. Sales mean crap when it comes to quality. Just look at AOL. Back in its hayday, they held the dominant share of the ISP market, even though their service was slow, unreliable, and a resource hog... hmm... sounds a lot like a certain OS that the majority of people run (cough, Windows, cough). Vista is nothing more than an upgrade that takes everything that they've done wrong for the last 5 years and make it better by copying OS X. And I must say that the ability to type in the name of the program you want to run and pressing enter is revolutionary. Haven't seen that since... DOS...
What does this have to do with Halo 2 coming out for Vista? Well, regardless of what Bungie says, this is nothing more than a marketing stunt to get gamers to buy Vista. Albeit it may not be their choice, but I can't see why Bungie would do this. The problem is that anybody that owns Halo 2 for Xbox isn't going to buy it for their PC. Why would you? If you can afford to own a computer and keep upgrading it to run the latest games, you would have already purchased an Xbox a long time ago if you really wanted to play Halo 2. Additionally, although I love Halo 2, there are a lot of better FPS on the PC (many of which have been around before Halo 2 showed up). So it seems odd to me that a consumer would purchase Halo 2 for PC when they already have a superior library to choose from.
Yeah, I know that people play Halo 1 for PC and I don't doubt that people will purchase Halo 2 for PC, but I seriously hope that Bungie or Microsoft aren't expecting a blockbuster of a release like Half Life 2 brought on.
Congratulations Microsoft. Not only did you drop the ball with the 360, but now you're forcing your best game company to waste their time recycling games for an inferior OS that hasn't even released yet.
