Subject: Halo: CEA Soundtrack is doomed...

<------Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 emblem.

I'm very disappointed to here that Halo: CEA's soundtrack is being redone expensively. The songs were great the first time, in the first game, and really were perfect. How does someone make "Under Cover of Night" better when it's already perfect?

I think the age-old adage applies here: "If it isn't broken, don't fix it."

Have you listened to the podcast? The new version sounds good, but there's something missing that makes the older version sound far superior.

Haven't listened. Link & time occurrence in video?

It's at the very end, near the 41 minute mark. The podcast is at http://halo.xbox.com.

You need a weapon?....You can find your own......

Hmmm, maybe when you click the button on the menu to change from new graphics to old graphics, it will change the music too!....That would be wicked!!

you are a good translator
Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

I actually like it a lot...

It sounds cleaner.

Self-proclaimed genius.
Roam the streets with a sign, "will love for false hope."

The thing is that we all have the Halo: Combat Evolved Official Soundtrack. It's the original score just with a full orchestra and improved clarity. It somewhat sounds a little different but that's not a bad thing and I say it still stays true to the original. It's still the same songs, just on a grander scale. And that perfectly suits Halo 1 with revamped graphics. I don't see any reason why Marty shouldn't be doing that. It is Marty, right? >.>

The song at the end of the podcast sounds like an abridged version. The percussion sounds a little quiet but other than the different vocal pitch and larger amount of instruments used, it truly does sound like the exact same song. It's like the opening of Halo 1 at the end of Reach. Cortana sounds soooo different from how she did in Halo 1. But that's because of the clarity of the audio files Bungie's now able to put into the game. I truly believe they are doing justice with the soundtrack here and can't wait to hear Under Cover of Night.

"tbagging has been in halo since the getgo, don't like it? Go make a thread about it!"

If they F up ANY of the songs I WILL HAVE THEIR HEADS.

I also questioned their decision. The soundtrack already sounds great, why remaster it? All I'm expecting now is a track remade legends style. I absolutely hated legends' soundtrack.

It isn't being changed at all; there are technical limitations that require re-recording sometimes. It should be 100% identical.

Pretty hard to not change something at all when the original was synth and the re-recording is fully orchestrated.

I think the new is still pretty good, but the chanting is too singly focused, and the rhythm is impatient.
Edit: Also, the vocals in the rhythm section? Yeah, those are supposed to support the drums, not the other way around.

I do like the old much more.

Combat Evolved had the best Soundtrack out of all of them, and yes I agree with you, to an extent. Halo 3 was good and so was the Halo Legends soundtrack, I am willing to give it a chance, I just hope they dont blam it up to badly

I personally loved the Legends soundtrack, whenever the choir would begin singing I got goosebumps.

Music is one of the most important things in games, I'm honestly looking forward to hearing the other tracks before anything else.

  • 06.10.2011 9:03 AM PDT

There are definite differences i heard from the waypoint podcast extract. Overally loud percussion parts, choir volume differences and even a solo choir that sounded somehow not quite right

Why the hell are 343 stupid enough to even think of remastering what was perfection in the first place. Quite unbelievable why they are doing this. Unless we get a choice at least to have original music? in which case take it all back

That line about respecting the game was bollocks obviously it would seem

You guys are acting like they are getting rid of the original songs or something?

As great as the CE soundtrack was, none of it was a live orchestra. It was all done with samples if my memory serves me correct. I have no problem taking the same songs, re-recording them with a live orchestra and bringing the production values a little up to date.

See you on the battlefield.

I'm willing to give it a try. As long as the music team doesn't go off on a tangent with the score, it should be fine.

That said, I do like the original music more, but that may be because the original versions have had years to grow on me, whereas the new stuff has only had a few days tops.

"Somewhere in the heavens... they are waiting"

I'm deaf now, but I wasn't then. I just couldn't imagine the music being any different, whatsoever, from the original game. It seems horrifying to me actually. The music throughout the whole game was perfect, and so iconic for what was being played at the specific moment (like battle/tempo).

A shame I never got to hear the soundtracks from the other games in the series, but from what I've been told (and read), I heard the best already.
