Since Halo 2 is supposedly coming out for Windows Vista(as long Frankie isn't jerking us), we will need a new forum for Halo 2 PC, like we did with Halo: combat evoloved. Since it will likely be diffrent in ways and include diffrent stuff. What do you all think? I know it'll be a while, but we should plan ahead.

Oooor...maybe we can continue to use Zanzibar and New Mombasa, since they are both general forums that should do just as well.

I believe dmbfan09 said in this thread that they will be put into The Maw. Judging from the general movement of threads with this topic into that forum, I'm guessing that that is what the moderators have decided to do.

Equally good. In short, another forum is not needed.

Yeah its the same situation with another Halo 3 forum, you can't have one because Bungie hasn't said anything.

But Bungie has announced it. You can put the new forum in.

I think it would certainly help, but isn't needed. Yet.

I don't think it would really help (it makes another forum people won't post in), and it isn't needed at all, considering we have Zanzibar and New Mombasa, or the Library. Why waste time making a new forum when we can just use currently existing forums that will work just as well?

I've counted several scattered Halo 2 PC topics. I'm not sure what you mean by it isn't needed at all. Mabye they could change the Maw, but it needs a definate place sooner or later.

Achronos got ahead of me. I guess that settles that for now.

I was meaning a new forum isn't needed. We already have forums that will work just as well, so why not use those instead?

Well Johnrap, Achronos is correct (as always). Any discussions about Halo 2 PC can easily take place in The Maw for the time being (just like all of the "Halo 3" threads can currently take place in The Underground). I have a feeling that Bungie will announce its next project prior to the release of Halo 2 PC, so there should be no need to worry about people discussing the finer points of Halo 2 PC before the forums are "restructured".

I liked having you around Johnrap, but Achronos knows what he's doing. :-)

The only problem is that you wouldn't be able to decide when the threads would warrant a new forum. After all, think of all of the Halo 3 threads all over the forums. You would think that with all of those threads, they would warrant a new forum. So you are lucky you called off the bet, because Achronos could have easily just not made a new forum (saving him time), claim that all of the threads didn't mean a new forum was needed, and won a bet.

For whatever it's worth, here's my opinion. I've been at the Maw for awhile. I have been a contributor at the Maw. I have seen the posting trends and I know the people there.

If Bungie does not create another forum for H2PC, they will effectively choke the discussion of HPC and HCE development, and send the game to an early grave. Believe me when I tell you that this will affect Bungie's marketing strategy. If Bungie can play its cards right, you can expect some increase in sales for HPC as the release date for H2PC draws near.

So, let me dodge the obvious sucker-punches here.

HPC is dying / already dead - who freakin' cares?

With over 600 operating servers at any given time and probably well over 10,000 unique players daily, HPC is not dead.

And of course.

Bungie is freakin' rich - they don't care if they sell a few thousand more copies of HPC...

Yeah, but all I'm saying is that a little extra effort would go a long way.

I know that a lot of modding is still being done on HCE and HPC (I'm involved in it), and I really hope that stuff like that isn't forgotten by the community so that we can discuss H2PC.

Do we need a new forum immediately? Maybe not - there hasn't been a release date announced. But, eventually, we will need a separate forum for H2PC. It's easy for a lot of you Xbox guys to sit here and say it would be a waste, but I know the HPC community, and I know that a dedicated H2PC forum would not be a waste.

So for whatever it's worth, Achronos, please take this under consideration.

EDIT:

I just wanted to add that I just took a look at the Maw and, aside from the stickies, every thread on the first page is about H2PC. What does that mean? Maybe it's popular enough to warrant its own forum. I'll leave that decision to the p[owers that be.

I can empathize, but I can also predict that it falls on the forum-goers to adapt. Look in The Underground and count the "Halo 3" threads.... It used to be Marathon and Myth threads as far as the eye can see.

Discussions change, the core purpose of the forums have not. Halo 2 Vista is still (at the core) a Halo PC subject. The exact same way that a Halo 3 speculation thread is a discussion about possible future Bungie-projects.

Welcome to tomorrow. Guaranteed to not be the same as yesterday.

It's a trend. Every forum goes through one. Just look at Zanzibar. A while back, everyone wanted opinions on girl gamers. There would sometimes be as many as three or four threads about them each day. It's still going on today, but to a lesser degree. Then there were usually 2 or 3 threads about Halo 1 vs. Halo 2. Now there are "I was cheated!" or "Bungie loves cheaters!" threads all over the forum.

It's just a phase. Eventually, everything will level out. H2PC discussion will be joined by Halo PC discussion, and a new forum won't be needed. Same as why all of the Halo 3 threads are sent to the Underground, even though they are the only discussion in that forum. Eventually, it will die down, and other topics will return.

#1 - Halo PC players are different from Halo: Xbox players.

Xbox players don't mod their game or make maps or third-party programs or run their own servers. They go to wal-mart drop $40 and put the disk in the xbox. That's it. Maybe if they're good-little-players they signup for xbox live and pay for map packs.

HPC on the other hand has a different community. A community that, if you guys hadn't announced you were making H2PC would have made it ourselves either using HEK or doing HL2 total conversion. Add that to the number of porgrams out there that decrease lag and imporve gameplay, and I think you'll see the difference between Zanzibar and the Maw.

Bottom line: While Halo Xbox players may invest more money in their game, HPC players invest more time in theirs (and I don't mean simply playing).

#2 H2PC is, at its core an HPC subject? Yeah, but your conclusion does not follow.

Firstly, H2PC is no longer a 'possible future bungie project'. It has been announced and confirmed. Halo and Halo 2 have their own forums (Library and Zanzibar), so why can't HPC and H2PC have their own? Comparing the H2PC discussion to the H3 discussion just doesn't fit.

#3 Welcome to tomorrow?

Welcome to now. I don't mean to rude, Recon, but pithy remarks such as that seem to betray the empathy you claim. Furthermore, they don't do much to help the situation.

#4 The Point

I just want to know that, as the release of H2PC draws near, you guys will make a new forum for it. The HPC community has been patient. The HPC community has invested more of itself in these games. And we honestly feel that we should at least be acknoweledged as much as the Halo: Xbox community and given, at some point, separate forums for HPC and H2PC - trend or no trend.

If I know this is temporary, I'll endure it.

I can't seem to see how investments in games relate to usage of forums. Considering that it would seem odd that people who invest time in games would spend time on Bungie.net.

1) Halo Xbox and Halo PC both have their own forums (The Library and The Maw). If Halo 3 were to come out, Halo 2 discussion would probably be moved to the Library, and Zanzibar and the like would be most likely renamed and turned into their respective Halo 3 forums.

2) We say that H2PC and H3 discussion are one and the same because they both have a place to go. H3 discussion falls under "Bungie General," despite the fact that there are so many threads about it, and H2PC falls under "Halo PC," despite the fact that there are so many threads about it.

#3 Welcome to tomorrow?

Welcome to now. I don't mean to rude, Recon, but pithy remarks such as that seem to betray the empathy you claim. Furthermore, they don't do much to help the situation.

Actually, it was supposed to mean that things change, and that (as I said) eventually the discussion about H2PC will die down a bit, and HPC discussion will come up again.

Considering HPC has its own forum, I don't know why you want one.

And I fail to see why, considering both games are still Halo 2, H2PC multiplayer and general discussion could still go into Zanzibar and New Mombasa, provided the topics are about Halo 2 in general, rather than Halo 2 Vista.

Basic Summary: All Halo 2 PC/Vista threads/speculations go into The Maw only as of now, forum plans may change, a new one may be constructed, but still being decided by the Community Guys and Achronoes. Yeah, that's pretty much the answer here now, thanks for the help achronoes!
