Actually, it was supposed to mean that things change, and that (as I said) eventually the discussion about H2PC will die down a bit, and HPC discussion will come up again.

You assume.

Considering HPC has its own forum, I don't know why you want one.

I think I've already explained this.

And I fail to see why, considering both games are still Halo 2, H2PC multiplayer and general discussion could still go into Zanzibar and New Mombasa, provided the topics are about Halo 2 in general, rather than Halo 2 Vista.

Oh please, like the mods wouldn't move those threads. And pretty much all the H2 threads in the Maw are about H2 Vista. This isn't realistic.

2) We say that H2PC and H3 discussion are one and the same because they both have a place to go. H3 discussion falls under "Bungie General," despite the fact that there are so many threads about it, and H2PC falls under "Halo PC," despite the fact that there are so many threads about it.

The crew from Cheers also had a place they could all go - where everyone knew their name, in fact, but they weren't 'one and the same'

1) Halo Xbox and Halo PC both have their own forums (The Library and The Maw). If Halo 3 were to come out, Halo 2 discussion would probably be moved to the Library, and Zanzibar and the like would be most likely renamed and turned into their respective Halo 3 forums.

Objection - calls for speculation.

I can't seem to see how investments in games relate to usage of forums. Considering that it would seem odd that people who invest time in games would spend time on Bungie.net.

Odd how? Would you care to support your arguement?

If you guys don't care, then just say, "we don't care." Don't sit there and offer your empathy and half-baked logical excuse. I suppose that since Gearbox probably isn't doing the port, that I'll always have the Gearbox forums, anyway.

What I think, though, Mabian, is that H2PC discussion in the Maw won't die down. But you could be right. I'll check back later and we'll see. For now, thanks for the discussion.

Yeah, I actually agree with him.

1. For using a Cheers reference.
2. Just for being right.

Although, there is the fact that even though they are two different games, they are both 3rd party ported, and could be described as "non-bungie games". So, putting both in the same forum would make slight sense.

Other than that, yes. New forum sounds fun.

Perhaps I said something wrong. Let's go through this:

Halo 2 Xbox and Halo 2 Vista are, at their core, the same game. If the overall gameplay or campaign is changed, then they aren't the same game. Considering that they are both Halo 2, there are a few differences between the two.

Halo 2 Xbox Multiplayer and Campaign should be very similar to Halo 2 Vista Multiplayer and Campaign, with perhaps a few add-ons for H2 Vista. Now, if two people are playing the same campaign, why can't the discuss it on the same forum, considering that they are talking about the same basic subject? If people are talking about the same multiplayer, this not including the add-ons for H2 Vista, but rather the discussion pertains to the same multiplayer experienced on the Xbox, why can't it be on the same forum? Then if people wish to talk about the new specific parts of H2 Vista, they can use a forum designated for playing Halo games on a PC.

We now have three forums for people who wish to play Halo 2 Vista, where they can discuss with many different people about certain aspects of the game. They can discuss general multiplayer on Zanzibar, general campaign in New Mombasa, and H2 Vista specifics in The Maw. And there is no need in Zanzibar and New Mombasa to mention "Vista," because they are both Halo 2. Same as why people don't need to mention "Xbox" on said forums. Everyone is discussing Halo 2, not simply Halo 2 on the Xbox.

In short, Halo 2 is Halo 2. As long as people are discussing Halo 2, why should we add a new forum, when people can discuss everything they need on three currently existing ones?

Good point, Mabian. I think the H2 Vista multiplayer will differ dramatically, but the campaign will probably stay the same. But, I suppose, like Recon said - we're just gonna have to wait and see what Bungie will do about the forum structure.

And I'm okay with that. Seriously. I don't expect something to happen now. I actually wanted to start a thread like this and then thought, "Give 'em a break - they just announced it - this should die down soon...." then I scanned the topics and found that somebody had already started such a thread and I said to myself, "Ah, what the heck, eh?"

Recon, I appreciate you clarifying your post. I didn't mean to attack you, and I apologize if it came across that way - it just didn't make a lot of sense to me, but now that you've explained it, it does.

But I think it's actually better we're having this discussion now. Imagine four months from now a whole bunch of people who had been waiting to say something finally get so upset that they come here and blow their stacks. I think it's better that we can be up-front about the topic.

And we honestly can't expect Bungie to do much about it if we don't let them know what we think. And, I think we've done a decent job of that.

I just joined, but I wonder how much trouble it would cause to leave them as they are. Then again, how much trouble would it cause to install and maintain a new one? Ah well, some things are better left to the webmaster and the web team. If they can get this going so far, I think they know what to do next.

Ah well, now that I've seen this thread I might as well jump in behind Inspire and throw my hand in.

Along with aM Inspire I'm also a Maw forum regular (and nowadays the times are few in which I venture out of my deep pit into the vast forum beyond...) and I've seen the changes in the past few days since the announcement of Halo 2 PC. However, at this point I have to admit I like the new excitement and activity in the Maw and other than the near disappearance of Halo PC-related threads this change has proved for the most part, positive.

If anything, us Halo PC regulars and long-time "fan-bois", have to fear, it is in my opinion a rapid influx of PC?Mac users, who had interest in Halo 2 on the Xbox and could not be bothered to buy Halo PC, and even more worrisome, those who will eventually gravitate towards Halo 2 Vista, as it becomes the "new" FPS to go to.

Let me show you this handy dandy chronologically ordered system of new Halo PC players:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Halo for the Xbox comes out
Those that are either too mad at Bungie, or simply those who choose to wait it out, after the announcement that Halo will in fact come out for the Xbox and not for the Mac, as had been planned. These people wait for an eventual Halo PC release.

Halo for the PC comes out
Finally, many PC/Mac Halo fans are elated as Halo finally debuts on the computer. After a year or so many people begin to question what will the future hold for Halo PC...

Halo 2 comes out
For Xbox fans, the amazing second installment for Halo comes out, to much rejoice. Unfortunately along with this Xbox Live title comes hackers, modders, cheaters, and other no-goodnicks who have jumped on the popularity of Halo 2 in order to show off their low self-esteem and utter stupidity. However, for several months and beyond, this leaves many Halo PC fans asking "when is Halo 2 PC coming out??"

Halo 2 PC Vista is announced
Halo 2 for the PC is announced and along with it FPS fans are attracted. In the coming months this PC release peaks the interests of many "computer gamers". Such people include the CS 'community', Unreal Tournament, Call of Duty, etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright that about wraps it up. NOW: You must be asking, what was the point of all that???

Well, let me explain: The first several categories were all good. However...the last one is what's getting me a little worried. Now, now, I don't want to go all xenophobic on you, but with any large increase in people playing the game comes cheaters, hackers, and other people who want to act like 2-year-olds and ruin the game (however I even fear more the constant amount of people I've played in CS, you know the racist, homophobic types)
that will migrate to Halo 2 now that it'll come out on a computer.

Now I must digress, the amount of people that will come to Halo 2 PC will be seperated in terms of what kind of gamer they are.

Maybe 20% of people will be good gamers, valuable contributors to the community that Bungie-folk will appreciate. HOWEVER, let's say the other 80% will be a bunch of people who know nothing other than to scream at people through their microphones or keyboards.

Alright. That was wayyy too long and already I'm kinda unsure on some of my points but I'm going to post it anyway. Anyways, just thought I'd focus on something other than the fact that people may "forget" about Halo PC.

well, the problem with having everything H2 PC related going to The Maw is that its going to The Maw.

Let me clarify. The Maw is a diffrent breed of forum from the others on b.net. We were not very large, we could easyly help the people who needed it, and we could discuss alot of things semi-privatly. Now with the announcement of H2 PC, suddenly we have had an influx of outsiders into our inner sanctum. [exageration] We cant exactly have a good discussion without it being dropped into the 5th page without being updated once an hour. [/exageration] Now it jsut feels a bit cramped *and unusualy hot because of an increace of flaming... I knew we should have bought the better AC but nnNOoo Shishka didn't want a cold draft coming from The Maw...*

I feel that it is fine to have the H2 PC stuff going into The Maw, I jsut hope that it doesn't stay that way for too long.

Times change. Just because that's how it used to be doesn't mean that's how it was meant to be. Just look at the Underground. That used to be home to everything oldschool. Needless to say, it no longer is.

And will it forever? I highly doubt it, because I don't think that many people are stupid enough to continue Halo 3 threads when Halo 3 is already out. And hopefully Halo 3 will be the last, because I don't know how much longer Bungie could use Master Chief before they have to start resorting to generic games (Halo: Motocross, or Halo: Tetris Edition). Eventually, old-school discussion will return in full swing. It just takes time, and that time is dependent upon the topic. Halo 3, or Halo 2 PC, are big topics, and therefore will get a lot of response, most likely for a fairly long time. But eventually the subject will die down. The forum doesn't matter. Maw, Underground, Zanzibar, Flood, everything works in phases. What's big today may not be big tomorrow.

People don't choose to change. Change decides to occur on its own.

well, once the "new project" forum is up, the pesky h3 threads might dissappear from there. Its all about sorting. If you have one folder for everything on your computer, you could not find anything; but if you had a folder for each "idea" then it would be very serine *sp!*

Of course, it then gets hard to sort through a hundred folders, especially when new files are being added in each every minute, and a lot of them you don't want. So you have to sort through a hundred folders deleting files. So the less folders, the less hassle of searching. Really, I don't think you can equate forums and folders from your computer.

Ok that's another teeny-little problem I have right now. This whole thing where you guys are trying to be all calming with the whole "Just because that's how it used to be doesn't mean that's how it was meant to be". Well to be realistic here I'm going to go out and say that I truly think the Underground is in a bad spot right now. Being the Mac and PC gamers that we are (and trust me in the Maw we absolutely condone console-bashing; in fact I'm a fan of console gaming myself) we realise how amazing Marathon and the other old-school Bungie games are (even though I'm currently struggling through the end of Marathon ;() And I find that although most of the Halo 3 topics have been more civilized of late, there is still a substantial lack of old-school Bungie game threads.

Although the substantial decrease in these threads can be attributed to the minute amount of people who still play these games, and have new news to post about. The primary reason, in my opinion, is the result of the substantial overflow of Halo 3 and future Bungie project-related threads.

A similar case may soon happen in the Maw. However I believe that there is NO decrease in Halo PC related threads, just new people coming in, and making numerous threads related to Halo 2 PC. This overflow is drowning out any threads of other natures.

So, in fact, I wouldn't consider this "times changing", just people who want to talk about their favourite game (Halo PC) being stiffled inside their own forum.

More like "anarchy" than "revolution" to me.

actually you can:

the website is the hard drive
the forums are the folders
the threads are files
the posts are the letters, words, and paragraphs of the file.
