Ah well, now that I've seen this thread I might as well jump in behind Inspire and throw my hand in.
Along with aM Inspire I'm also a Maw forum regular (and nowadays the times are few in which I venture out of my deep pit into the vast forum beyond...) and I've seen the changes in the past few days since the announcement of Halo 2 PC. However, at this point I have to admit I like the new excitement and activity in the Maw and other than the near disappearance of Halo PC-related threads this change has proved for the most part, positive.
If anything, us Halo PC regulars and long-time "fan-bois", have to fear, it is in my opinion a rapid influx of PC?Mac users, who had interest in Halo 2 on the Xbox and could not be bothered to buy Halo PC, and even more worrisome, those who will eventually gravitate towards Halo 2 Vista, as it becomes the "new" FPS to go to.
Let me show you this handy dandy chronologically ordered system of new Halo PC players:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Halo for the Xbox comes out
Those that are either too mad at Bungie, or simply those who choose to wait it out, after the announcement that Halo will in fact come out for the Xbox and not for the Mac, as had been planned. These people wait for an eventual Halo PC release.
Halo for the PC comes out
Finally, many PC/Mac Halo fans are elated as Halo finally debuts on the computer. After a year or so many people begin to question what will the future hold for Halo PC...
Halo 2 comes out
For Xbox fans, the amazing second installment for Halo comes out, to much rejoice. Unfortunately along with this Xbox Live title comes hackers, modders, cheaters, and other no-goodnicks who have jumped on the popularity of Halo 2 in order to show off their low self-esteem and utter stupidity. However, for several months and beyond, this leaves many Halo PC fans asking "when is Halo 2 PC coming out??"
Halo 2 PC Vista is announced
Halo 2 for the PC is announced and along with it FPS fans are attracted. In the coming months this PC release peaks the interests of many "computer gamers". Such people include the CS 'community', Unreal Tournament, Call of Duty, etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright that about wraps it up. NOW: You must be asking, what was the point of all that???
Well, let me explain: The first several categories were all good. However...the last one is what's getting me a little worried. Now, now, I don't want to go all xenophobic on you, but with any large increase in people playing the game comes cheaters, hackers, and other people who want to act like 2-year-olds and ruin the game (however I even fear more the constant amount of people I've played in CS, you know the racist, homophobic types)
that will migrate to Halo 2 now that it'll come out on a computer.
Now I must digress, the amount of people that will come to Halo 2 PC will be seperated in terms of what kind of gamer they are.
Maybe 20% of people will be good gamers, valuable contributors to the community that Bungie-folk will appreciate. HOWEVER, let's say the other 80% will be a bunch of people who know nothing other than to scream at people through their microphones or keyboards.
Alright. That was wayyy too long and already I'm kinda unsure on some of my points but I'm going to post it anyway. Anyways, just thought I'd focus on something other than the fact that people may "forget" about Halo PC.
