it's a potatoe gun!

think logically: there's no UNSC on the forerunner world and therefore no ammo for br/dmr etc. - so MC is forced to use vegetables as ammo.

Really...because with a 720 fullscreen still of Master Chief shooting the weapon, i couldn't discern any obstacle (such as a door) for the projectile to destroy as those who think it is an explosive believe. Also, if you pause after the camera pans to Master Chief you can look down the corridor and clearly see that there was no doorway or such as there is no remnants of anything, just an empty hallway. It is a slow-moving projectile with a wavering trail and produces a blue flash.

''their is now such thing as a "pistol" round, look at the obrez pistol, this was a bolt action pistol that fired the 7.62x54r round, that round is bigger the the 7.62 nato round. yet still it was a pistol. pistols are defined by their handling, and size, not by what caliber round they fire.

anyways, it could be true that it is a modification on the m6 series weapons, but that really doesn't matter, as the weapon as seen, is in fact still a pistol.

also, the weapon is not a break action launcher, as you can see reloading the weapon requires two actions, first, the weapon itself must be recocked,(after firing the first grenade, MC slam down on the weapon again, this is the recocking) then after catching himself, mc pulls a grenade out of his hammer space and attaches it to a rod at the end of the weapon, therefor reloading it. these means the grenade is muzzle fired, which like i said earlier is the same design as the m7 grenade launcher on the m1 garand during ww2.

also, in terms of how one the fly modification of that is very simple, the grenade holding rod would be screwed onto the end of the barrel, and a blank cartridge would be loaded, allowing a loaded grenade to be propelled by the gasses from firing the blank.

and also, have you ever heard of the Taurus Judge or the Mil thunder 5 those shoot shotgun rounds, yet they are pistols.

i am laughing at every idiot here who keeps saying it is not a pistol.

it is not the m6 series pistols that were used in the halo games, but it is still a pistol.
pis-tol
[pis-tl] Show IPA noun, verb, -toled, -tol ing or ( especially British ) -tolled, -tol ling.
noun
1.
a short firearm intended to be held and fired with one hand.

it is short, it is held and fired with only one hand, it is a pistol.

the basis of the weapon looks to be taken from the m7 grenade launcher attachment from the m1 garand, but instead of being on a rifle, it is on a stand alone system, one which still fires a externally attached grenade, but not with a blank rifle round like the m7, but rather some sort of hydraulic or Pneumatic system, as the pistol still requires a "re-cocking" in addition to reloading a grenade on the end.

I have to disagree. If you had a shotgun the size of a pistol, nobody would call it a "pistol". Pistols fire pistol rounds.

That being said, if you have seen that thread with supposed leaked information about Halo 4, the game could feature an on the fly weapon modifying system. That's what I think the grenade launching pistol is supposed to show and hint at. It may have originally been a pistol, but because of this new gameplay element, has been modified to instead fire 40mm grenades. There's a flaw in that idea, though. If the grenade launcher in the trailer is indeed an example of on-the-fly field modification of weapons, it's really weird to think that a slide-operating pistol that fires pistol-caliber ammunition can be changed to now be a breaking 40mm launcher.

Alright but that begs the question why he would shoot a grenade down an empty corridor then fly through the explosion.... His shield would have been shimmering from the damage when the camera panned to him; suck it.
What do you need on an empty ship in space, a random explosion or light?

Yeah okay the door that you couldn't see and vaporized in a blue flash leaving behind no remnants. And yeah that blunt-tipped "granade" totally "stucked like a nedle to the dor."

  • 06.10.2011 2:21 AM PDT

i dunno how to call it a granade,a exploding neadle of size of an armored spartan fist or a sticky exploding thingy?

there is a door, the "rpg" seems to stick for not even an second, then blows the door up and MC comes flying through the flash of light and a lot of debris, resulting from the explosion that tore the door apart one very well can see.

watch the vid again, maybe in high-res.

I can admit when i'm wrong. After painstaking amounts of carefully-timed pauses, i have found a few frames that show a door at and only at 1:09. It should have been more clear, but it doesn't really matter since it is a minor detail. Still an awesome trailer.

There is less than a second between the time when the door is visible and Master Chief immerses in the explosion.
There would already be quite a bit of debris on an exploding half-ship....
And it is NOT a rocket propelled grenade.

even without seeing a door in that dark corner in this vid it is pretty logical that he blew up one, lacking any other reason to fire a rpg inside of a ship and even less reason to fire a flare (again, INSIDE of the ship). i don't know how you could come up with that BS.

then there's the fire, raging outside. if there was no door: why didn't you see the huge flames, but only darkness?

and i really don't care how this weapon will be called, but i'm pretty sure now you are not the expert to comment on this.
it is a self-propelled projectile, fired from a handheld gun, that explodes on impact = rpg.

dear god, that is the first time i have ever been cross thread qouted before, YAY!

Anyways, to clarify. Master chief kicks open one door, floats through a adjoining sector then picks up the (i am hereby naming it) the "teaser" pistol (creative huh?) and proceeds to fire it into a dark corridor,( a dark corridor suggests that their was some sort of blockage, as the object {ship?planet? who knows?} the door is facing is projecting light which would penetrate the darkness easily, so some physical item must be blocking the light.) one which does retain a doorway light, (the very small light rectangle above MC's path of movement) He then "re-c0ck" the weapon by slamming the top down with his hand. the scene then gets a mild whiteout where the explosion blocks out precise details. note their is mild decompression. after catching himself and beginning to survey the scene, MC pulls out a large fist sized round object and attaches it to a rod at the end of the pistol.

for reference, here is a link to muzzle loaded grenade.

The lack of master chief visibly reloading a cartridge suggest either a pneumatic or hydraulic means of propulsion created by means of the re-cocking action.

P.S. personally i think this is much better written, but honestly i hate the English language so meh.
P.S.S. It could very well be a rocket propelled grenade, three reasons, 1, it leaves a smoke trail after being fired, this means it's burning something as a means of propulsion, hence rocket propelled, 2 the explosion is relatively minor, yet the damage is still sufficient to blow a large-ish obstacle out of the way.3 grenade means small explosive device, so it is small-ish, it is a explosive, hence it is a grenade.

I didn't think flare guns armed themselves when they slapped up against a solid object.

If you listen in the trailer, you'll here an arming noise once it slaps against the wall.

To break his way out of the ship. You can't really see the wall, but you DO see the grenade or whatever stick to a solid object right before exploding outward.

I don't think it's a RPG because if you watch the "explosion" it seems to dissolve the door rather than blow it up. Also it seems silly to have a one-handed weapon that creates a backblast right in front of your face when you fire it.
