HATERS GONNA' HATE

The Forerunners.

Yep.

I'm calling it right now. The Forerunners will be the enemy of Halo 4. I really can't imagine an entirely new galactic wide threat being made up, right out of the blue, for one game.

The main reason I'm making this topic, is so that a couple of years later, when(/if) the forerunners turn out to be the enemy, I can say, "yeah. I called it."

So, here are my arguements.

The Forerunners have been the newest intense focus of lore.
The forerunners have their own book now. With Halo CE Anniversery, we will be seeing forerunner-focused lore terminals. All of this intense focus must mean SOMETHING. And I think it points to them being the enemy, discovering their hidden evil.

Who else is there to fight?
For Halo 4, there will only be a few factions left in the galaxy. The Humans, the Elites (Presumably now leading all ex-Covenant races,) the Forerunners, and AI. The AI are like Cortana, and that secret AI council revealed in Halo: Reach. (Rampant AI also look like they could be enemies.) Really. Who else is left to fight? I know that the galaxy will have changed. A galaxy wracked by war, not wanting to fight again. Perfect for an old threat to re-emerge, the Forerunners.

There still are Halo rings...
Yeah, remember those galaxy killing superweapons? They still exist. And guess who controls them. They can only be activated by humans... And Forerunners! Bum bum bum.

Forerunners are masters of AI constructs.
With all this talk of smart AIs, AI rampancy, the only faction that has used AI extensivly has been the Forerunners. Imagine, a galaxy of lost facilities, with endless AI, all old, wise, and very very stir-crazy. Rampancy.

The Halo 4 trailer implies it.
Come on. The trailer description (My apologies, I can not access it now.) talks of Master Chief fighting a galaxy wide threat, an ancient evil. Come on! Look at Master Chief in the trailer. Why is the camera acting so dramatic, so in fear of this obviouslly Forerunner construct? Because it's a threat! That is what the trailer tells us.

There is a lot we do not know of Forerunners.
The Forerunners lived for a very long time, across the entire galaxy.
I think there is a reason that they were the only sentient species to rule it.
I think that they took it by force. There are no current records showing that they shared it with other species.

And there we have it folks.
The Forerunners are evil. Possibly due to AI rampancy. Possibly due to Precursor corruption. Possibly due to hidden evil.
Make up your own reasons.
I believe, that all things point,
to the Forerunners being the enemies of Halo 4.

Nope.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Humans were as advanced as Forerunners before being de-evolved by them.

  • 06.10.2011 11:24 AM PDT

Why would the forerunners go crazy due to AI rampancy?

Forerunners are not AI.

Well, you know, economic crisis.

Gt = xKryeZ
Halo 3 1750 G
Halo 3: ODST 1000 G
Halo Reach 1400 G
Halo CEA
Halo 4

Or maybe they are pissed because we destroyed quite a few halos who knows would be nice to have a new type of enemy that should mix things up a bit

"On the seventh day, god did not rest, but rather he created 64 player multiplayer!"

I have a feeling we may finally run into Mendicant Bias, and perhaps, Offensive Bias...

Hrm.

The Forerunners develop a technology that kill all life, knowing that they must deploy this tech.
The Forerunners can build complex artificial intelligences that can survive this tech.

So:
1: I'm counting AI, robots, all Forerunner constructs as, "Forerunner."
2: It's not that great a leap of logic, that the Forerunners survived by becoming AI.

This would be quite interesting.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Like that Doctor Who episode......

I bet it's "the prisoner" from cryptum.

Whatever that is.

The timeless one? You mean the last precursor?

This seems like a random guess/jump in the dark...

Yes, and I agree. Being a Precursor, he's the only one who could possibly threaten the entire universe in Halo lore. Plus they've been building up the Precursors a lot with Cryptum.

You're a mod, you should be used to that.

No, forerunners basically viewed humans as equals.

Have you guys even thought that the precursors may actually be the good guys? I mean in the end the covenant ended up being the good guys, it was the prophets and the brutes that made them turn against us in the first place. Keep in mind history repeats itself even in the bungie universe.

  • 06.10.2011 12:54 PM PDT

The only problem I see with that is MC would get pwned in about 10 seconds flat.

However the evidence does point that way regardless.

  • 06.10.2011 12:58 PM PDT

What makes you think the Forerunners are evil?

The Precursors released the Flood into the galaxy without even taking races other than the Forerunners into consideration, that sounds pretty damn evil to me. But you've got a fair point there, and since I don't know a lot about Precursors I agree.

They were using it as a fail-safe, just in case the forerunners actually beat them. I bet you didn't know that humans were able to defeat the flood at one point, with the help of that other race i mean (sorry forgot their name, its spelled weird, im sure one of you will post it)
I'm sure the precursors knew this and took it into account.

You should all read this actually..

Im pretty sure if the forerunners were the antagonists then they would have seen Master Chief as a threat and destroyed his ship before it made it to the Legendary planet

I think this ancient evil might have something to do with the Timeless One (if he isn't the Gravemind we already destroyed of course)/the Precursors or it's something that the Forerunners found that's even worse than the Flood.

Pretty sure Forerunners wouldn't attack him in the first place.

You know, reclaimer and all.
