Steam is like a thing that organizes games were you dont need the disk or anything its the game thing that runs the games counter strike, Half-life series, Day of defeat, and a bunch of other games.

This is STEAM

That, and you can download games straight from Valve via Steam.

It looks like, and correct me if I'm wrong, you sign up with an account on STEAM, download whatever game you want to play after you pay for it, and then you will be able to play on-line with that account. That way you don't need to have a disk to play the game. As long as updates come thru the system this sound like a good idea. It looks like STEAM is only for Valve games so M$ would have to cut a deal or make there own system. Interesting.

Steam is like a lobby. You can download and pay for games through it, you can find servers through it, basicaly anything you could want to do with the source engine, you do through steam.

Having Halo 2 on steam would make anyone's life much easer, due to the fact that they don't need the CD to run the game, also you cannot pirate the game as easily as can be done with otheres, and to the guy that said CS sucks, why is it that you think that? CS happens to be more popular than Halo 2, and has been around much longer. Not to mention CS dosen't get as many -blam!-y 12yr olds.

Nope most games are made by other companys
vlave was just the first one to use it and almost all the games ARE valve games
playing halo without the disk would be great no worring about skratches

Steam is for Source games. I haven't seen any games that haven't been developed on an engine by valve in steam.

You don't have to have a cd for many other games, its not steam that does this.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!

STEAM SUCKS!!!

sry for typing in all caps.

i absolutely HATE steam. it is the WORST way to do things. why? you have to LOG IN just to play a game! no more playing games offline!

augh!!! badbadbadbadbadbad idea!!!!!!!!!

thats right. you cant play half-life 2 without being online.

there is a way to go into "offline mode" but ive found that most games say "cannot complete action in offline mode"

steam is the worst thing ever in gaming. i hate it. i can guarantee you if halo 2 is on steam i WILL NOT PAY FOR IT!

-blam!- stupid steam. the whole steam system is annoying. its like having to be on xfire to play. you have no choice but to login to play.

and you dont need a disk in to play halo. its called alcohol 120%. or daemon tools. or clonecd. just emulate it on your hard disk.

before you go saying "that takes up too much hard disk space!" think about this: gcf's in steam take up space too. not only that, but you have to have the gcf AND the installed game on your hard drive. were talking like 4 gb for half-life 2.

just keep halo 2 away from steam. i can guarantee if it was on steam, it would get WAAAAY less players. the only reason CS:source doesnt have as many people on it as WoW is because of steam.

Darwinia.

I like Steam. I particularly like the fact that I can play my games on any computer (with high enough specs) without having to carry CDs around.

Carrying your cd-keys around with you isn't much more fun. And Downloading 700MB isn't much fun either. Being forced to do all that in order to play a game you already paid for in the store is asking a bit much - for me.

STEAM has its cons. I know. I was around when Valve implemented STEAM. That was anything but seamless.

STEAM will limit people from modding the game. Note that I used 'limit'. STEAM has supported third-party mods in the past.

I suppose it could be worse, though. I'd personally just rather not have to deal with STEAM.

i havent played a steam game BUT why shoudl bungie have h2 on steam? I don't think it is right for people to dl steam then dl a whole game to your computer that would take more than 2 GIGS If you havent noticed h2 is a large game for a dvd. Not to mention what would happen when we got the "hek" for h2, mine is already up to 4 gigs just for halo ce.

I wouldn't care about loggin in, and im guessing that there is an offline option. Having to tote around a cd isnt bad, jsut stick it in a cd case and away you go.

No, it was designed from scratch I believe. No ragdoll physics to speak of. No ragdolls at all, actually.

But the point is, Valve would get a cut of H2, which increases the price (tho probably not as much as packaging)

Also, you DON'T have to be logged in to play games offline, you just need a connection to log in, then you can exit steam without logging out and THEN disconnect. Admittedly, on my 56k at home, it's just as irritating.

It would be a good idea. it would stop cheaters ect. they could use VAC (Valve anti Cheat) or make thier own.......anti cheat software. but the bad point would be think of all the people without an internet connection they would be forced to get a broadband connection just to play halo. Steam is good but it wouldnt handle Halo.... it would be good to automaticly download updates. in some ways it would be good and some ways it would be bad.

i think it would be good either way.

But its one windows Vista so would Steam work on Vista....?

Oh my, 2gigs, that's such a huge amount isn't it!!![/sarcasm]
CS:S weighs in at just under 4gb, yet still millions have downloaded it, a DVD is actually about average for a download these days and takes about 4 hours on an average connection. unless you're on 56k, in which case i don;t know why you're still gaming on a pc.

Trust me, putting H2PC on steam would be the greatest marketing move ever, steam has the ability to instantly advertise to 10s of millions of gamers, who can then buy the game, download it and get right into the action, with the game being automatically updated by Steam.

Plus, you can access it anywhere, no carrying CDs or CD keys, just d/l steam, log in and you can access all your games.

Steam > all.

(except when it breaks :P)

to the above: what do you mean "forced to get a high-speed internet connection", anyone who intends to play anything online should have a connection of at LEAST 1Mb/s and preferably 2Mb/s, dial up is dead, it died years ago, broadband is now.

I can see the annoyance in that. I bought Half-Life 2 over Steam to being with, so obviously I didn't have the whole forced thing. But needing an internet connection to play a single-player game is incredibly stupid.
