Its DX10.....thats why we need to upgrade.
lets not forget that:
Vista wont be backward compatible with other windows programs. Why not? WinXP is backwards compatible with Windows 2000 and some Win98 programs.
it'll be buggy, and outdated when it comes out.True; which is why most people won't be buying it when it comes out. Most early Vistas will probably be sold in software Bundles with pre-made PCs (which won't help the OSes reputation.
no games support Vista. That should be Vista doesn't support games, which restates the first sentence. Certain older games will probably not run on Vista anymore, like Win98 games and maybe some older Win2000 games.
nor do any support DX10, look at project offset its running on windows XP pro, with a 7800GTX, and is on DX9, and the game is drop dead gorgeous.
forcing consumers to upgrade because they wont support XP anymore.
yea i think i got it all.If DX10 cannot/does not run DX9 supported programs, then M$ loses money. The primary reason why people continue to purchase Windows over other systems is because its what they're used to. It works with the programs they have now and the programs they plan to purchase in the future. If that suddenly stopped happening many consumers would start looking elsewhere, toward more stable OS that could run the programs they want without buying thousands of dollars of software.
There is always a transition when Windows "upgrades". No program can adapt to all the changes. So your statements are true...but flawwed. Older programs will probably not run or be compatible with Vista, but that doesn't account for most people find online and in stores today...or a year ago. Put another way; if Vista only wrked with Vista programs, it would be a new version of the old Mac OS (and we all know how well that kind of marketting worked. Windows Mac anyone?)
Don't get me wrong; I still prescribe to the old saying "Windows is not a Virus. Viruses are small and efficient." But you've gotta give M$ credit where credit is due: they know their customers. They may spend as much money playing on their fears as they do acutally making an OS that "everyone" can use, but they know better than to make something that blatantly screws us over.
