Bend it like Barrera

1st Ending- Chief and Cortana in an Epic scene in which the Ark is shown from behind, Cortana saying that it's been an honor serving with him. It them jumps into the future with the ceremony talking about how the chief is dead and the Scratch on the stone saying 117. By its own rights, that ending is awesome, and it's what some casual gamers will see.

2nd Ending, Legendary- Chief has survived and is on board the frigate with Cortana. The chief goes back to were the first halo game started: the cryo pod. It gives the feeling of a cycle, and a perfect ending for the main series.

With a Halo 4, the whole "finish the fight" thing seems like a sucker punch. I think they should have left the Master Chief rest, and start the new series with a different character, and maybe a little cameo from him...

Your thoughts?

Master Chief finished the Human-Covenant war.But that war is so small compared to the conflict that has yet to start.

Cryptum and other Forerunner sources hint at it alot.

They can keep creating canon, and make it fit, but I think Master Chief's story should have ended in Halo 3.

But you did finish the fight. You ended the war between humanity and the Covenant, and stopped the Flood.

It's a big universe, though. There's a lot more than the Covenant and Flood out there.

And probably a lot worse.

And you may live to reap the rewards.

I agree. if you continue to use the chief in everything you are going to give him Mary Sue status, and that is never good in any story, period.

Let him pass as the Hero he was, and if you are going to continue the story; do it with a New hero.

"Hello, I am Ring Moniter 666 John Cena".

I'm not disappointed. I really wanted to know what happened to those two.

It really was a great ending. But I prefer the ending of Halo Reach. Truly epic ^^ I don't really see any reason to continue a game with Master Chief in it. Maybe we should have a game based around the Covenant or another alien race for a change of pace. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

But whatever conflict Master Chief is about to get involved in, humanity won't know about it.

Seems to me from the Museum of Humanity that after the human-covennant-flood war, humanity went to live on peacefully and MC never returned.

Thats a very good point but I wouldnt be surprised if 343 did a little history changing. Also we dont know exactly how long MC has been floating out there so I think we should keep that in mind as well

I must admit that I'm not a big fan of the post-H3 setting.

I would rather have enjoyed a Chief story somewhere in the earlier days of the Human-Covie conflict. With him still being in Blue Team.

But the fact that the Legendary Planet appears to have either a Dyson Sphere or a Portal means the chances of the game being ON that planet are slim. Which opens the door for us to be teleported somewhere else and find new interesting things which might also give Halo the definite push into new territory for it to feel fresh again.

I was sceptical at first too, but after seeing the trailer and the new possibilites I am hyped...

Well you forgot the actual ending, when we see the planet that the master chiefs sees in the halo 4 teaser. So I guess you are right, it had the perferct ending, a setup for halo 4.

You know what, Master Chief will be the Mario of Xbox,he will keep returning for us and I love it. You don't hear Nintendo fans complaining about Mario returning all the time?

Mario has a really weak story. It doesn't have canon. Nintendo can basically make up anything they want. Microsoft=/=nintendo.

You DID finish the fight. Now here's a new one soldier!

  • 06.13.2011 6:42 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I've been getting flamed for it since 2007, but I think the Chief should have died at the end of Halo 3. If not, just have him drifting and never shown us a Legendary Planet.

Unreal, isn't it?

I agree with you OP. I wish the story had been left to rest. Haven't read Cryptum, and don't plan to.

Have you seen what Marty said in the Documentary of Halo 3 "Wait a minute, I've been this character for 3 games, they cant possible kill me." Besides there was a greater story behind the Human-Covenant War. Master Chief was chosen for a reason when he was young, he has a "Destiny".

I don't think it will rely on humanity as much in recent games. I actually think cortana will bring forerunners back from the stored DNA and they find a more powerful and evil force to fight, so it would be the covenant, humanity, elites, and the forerunners vs this new threat. That would be epic in my mind.

Did you see that thing in the Halo 4 CG Trailer? The thing pulling Half of the UNSC Cruiser? Obviously there were not the only thing pulled. Probably enemies from the Human-Covenant War, or More Flood. Maybe Trapped Spartans/UNSC maybe even Forerunners.

and remember this took place 2 or 3 years or 7 years after the events of the Ark.
