Subject: Question: Is it Halo we love, or is it Bungie?

For the last decade the Halo franchise has been my favorite and most enjoyable gaming experience. The things i would do to play a Halo game, endless it might seem. I purchased both the Xbox and Xbox 360 soley for the Halo games. These games are dear to me.

Though, it seems odd how my reaction has changed to the introduction of a new Halo title simply because of the developer. With each new entry i have gone into a craze over whats in store with the next installment. This time after eagerly watching E3 and having my eyes gaze upon the epic Halo 4 trailer, my interest is on decline.

With each Halo installment i felt more than just excitement for a video game, i felt heart. That is what each game had. Master Chief is the face of Bungie, not Halo.

Questions come to mind when i try to think deeply about Bungie, Halo, Microsoft and the conflicts between them.

Did Microsoft's pushiness lead to Bungies departure of the Halo franchise?

If room had of been left for the studio to do whatever they wanted from within microsoft would we still be seeing more Halos from Bungie today?

Does Bungie regret being bought out by Microsoft?

It seems to me that Bungie really didn't want to leave Halo with Microsoft, but they did because it was the only way they could carry out there passion for making great games. If Microsoft had of let bungie depart from their company with Halo intact maybe they would of had there chance to put Halo on hold, make other great games and then down the line return to the franchise.

Since Halo got popular it hasn't had much time or room to breathe, I can't say i blame Bungie for leaving. This is a chance for them to have a fresh new start and create a new game that they will be able to call there own for now and forever through there new deal with activision.

What are your thoughts?

I like Halo. I love Bungie.

I love Halo, I love Bungie. I do love Bungie more than I do Halo, though. Having more excitement to see what Bungie is working on rather than a new Halo title.

NOT INTO THE LONG GRASS!

I started out liking Bungie more than Halo, but after they -blam!-ed up Halo 3 and Reach, I started hating both.

But now I like Halo alot more than Bungie- Halo Cryptum was such an amazing book- it made me deeply attached to the Halo universe, more than you can imagine.

I think Bungie is burned out on Halo. I think you can see it in Reach which in my opinion is the worst Halo game, and I'm not the type who likes old games better then new, I enjoyed 2 more then CE and 3 more then 2. Whether or not this burnout is a result of the points you mention is a worthy debate. I think the split is good for both sides, Halo gets a breath of fresh air and Bungie gets to work on games that they are excited about and dedicated to.

Definitely Halo. If I didn't realize that before, Halo: Reach certainly opened my eyes.

As much as I like Halo, I like Bungie more.

I'll always play Halo, but I can't wait to become a bigger fan of whatever Bungie's next game will be

I love Halo. No question about it. Because of Halo, I love Bungie. I am very curious to see what they'll be doing next. Those weekly updates have achieved in keeping my interest in Bungie, thanks Urk, now I'm dying to know what you're all being so secretive about. I hope that this game will be as good as Halo.

I do understand why Bungie has stopped with Halo, and I will miss their involvement in Halo, but I'm very eager to see what 343 will do. Knowing that they want to bring the books and the games together is very exciting for someone like me who has read all the books.

To me, with Bungie leaving Halo, it seems like Halo is waay bigger than they were planning on, and they didn't want to JUST work on Halo, and that's why they left.

In answer to the question, I don't know if we'll know the answer to that until we play Halo:CE Anniversary and Halo 4. Then some of us can truly say whether it is Bungie or Halo we love.

I laugh at your pitifall attempts to defeat me!

Bungie created a beautiful universe, in Halo, but they definitely started to wane because, from what I believe, they wanted to pursue other projects. I'm not sure if 'tired of the franchise' is the way I should phrase it, but they most certainly wanted to take a break. With Reach I got a sense of this. It didn't have that spark, which past titles had. I think they started to gradually lose their way, and it showed.

I love the Halo universe, and whilst Bungie's a big part of the reason it is what it is they're not the sole reason. The extended lore, outside the games, have contributed to my love just as much as the games. Though I haven't read Cryptum, I know bits and pieces and some of the stuff I've learned have really got me fascinated. 343's passionate about, and seem to get, the universe; and I am optimistic about its future. What they're doing with the CE remake is brilliant. Love the addition of improved terminals; and they're general desire to offer great stories. The way they spoke about it, and Halo in general, gets me excited. I'm highly anticipating Halo 4, as well, for sure.

One thing I think will vastly improve, is the story-telling.

So, yeah, love Halo and love Bungie. I'm not one of those 'Halo's screwed 'cause Bungie's not making it' people, because I don't think it is at all; but Bungie did great and I wish them well.

bungie sucks but halo is good except reach reach sucks

Hmmm...that's a tough question. I've only been around for the Halo Saga so I'm not really sure. I guess its both, mostly Bungie because them and Bethesda are the only two developers whom I will purchase their games the day of even before reading reviews. Even if its something Half Life 3 [which is almost pre-destined to be an amazing morsel of video gaming goodness], I'll still wait for reviews before I purchase.

Been a fan of Bungie since before there was a Halo. Does that answer your question?

Proof!

I will not stop being active on Bungie just because Halo is going to be developed by 343 from now on.

Bungie created Halo, so I love them more than Halo.

I love both, I love Frankie so I will trust 343i and follow them with Halo.

And I will follow Bungie with the new IP they release.

We should know better, because we are better.

I think Bungie will always be a great developer. They don't need Halo to be great as they had 10 years of successful games under their belt before they even considered Halo.

I look forward to what is next and I hope that it will capture our imaginations just as well as Halo did.
