It will certainly be interesting to see if Vista ends up exploding (and not in the good way).

Anyway I wonder what will happen to Microsoft when Halo ends and they no longer have this crutch to lean on...that is if it doesn't end up turning into Mario.

bungie will make some thing else or keep doing the halo story but the past and the normal soldiers stories

I am a penguin. Every day I boogie on down to the water, and eat fish. Once, while fishing in the deepest depths, I saw great Cthulhu... And he said to me "Shine, to thine own self be true. They can't tell you what to do once you've gone guru." Also, I should tell you, "slide".

I just have to say, I know and agree with everyone that has complained about this being a marketing ploy and the complaints about Halo 2 PC not being for the Mac, but still, keep things in perspective. They are just throwin Halo 2 for the PC out there, and you dont have to buy it. A few weeks ago, almost no-one knew that they were going to put out a Halo 2 for the PC, so at least be happy that they are doing it at all, regardless of the intent behind it. I agree that they want $$$, but they still could have just as easily not done it, so I am just asking people to refrain from making this topic a warzone and an invitation to people to flame Bungie for anything that they dont like.

So be nice and post constructive criticism, legitimate complaints and/or compliments and no flaming. Thank you...

P.S. Stay on topic and post about the update

Okay Bungie I have offically given up on you guys. Halo 2 was okay, but the ending was another MS attempt to getting money, and now you are making Halo 2 Vista only. Look at games such as Battlefeild 2 and Half Life 2. You dont need a new OS to have a great game. Vista will also leave many people behind, and many cant afford to spend $900 on a PC and THEN another 200-300 on Vista. Plus, knowing Microsoft, That $900 PC will be so slow that Halo 2 will be unplayable. From what I have seen Vista is going to have 512 mb of RAM minimum for vista. If that is what is required to run the OS itself, how is this going to improve game preformance. Do you really need streaming HD for Halo 2? Face it all this crap about Vista is ways to get people buying Vista. Sure, I will buy Vista sometime, but not for at least a year after it comes out, and when RAM gets cheap enough for me to have 4gbs or more, and Processers get cheaper and faster. The minimum CPU is from what I heard somewhere around a 1.8-2.0 Athlon 64 class or 3.0 Pentium 4 Class 64bit CPU. I have an Athlon 64 3000+ which is 1.8ghz. I may not even be able to run Vista, and I invested about $750 into this system. Also, look at Vista's GPU requirements. It is estimated that the minimum req. on nVidias cards is somewhere in the mid to late 5xxx series. I havent seen anything on ATis side but still, that is pretty steep for some. If my gpu is only a few steps above minimum, then how can I be sure this will even be a good playing quality. You must be stupid to think you need DirectX 10 to have a great game. sure it improves eye-candy, but DirectX 9 is used in games today that look amazing, and have good replay value. I dont think you guys can get PC games right at all. Halo PC was so bad its not even funny. All that happened was a port, and very little graphical upgrade. It lags when you play on a LAN, which shouldnt happen concidering LANs are most of the time 100Mbps, which is MORE than enough to have a smooth game. Also, there was almost no support for Halo CE. the only things that you guys did to contribuite to that was the SP2 fix, and the 1.07 patch. If you guys support Halo 2s map making like in Halo 1, there is almost no point in having it at all. Making Halo 2 for Vista isnt a bad move, but for Vista only?? That cuts off a huge chunk of the fanbase

As I said before, I agree with you guys who are saying that its a very bad move to make it for Vista and not for any other operating systems, but I just have to say, its Halo 2! Not 3... It is not essential that you have it for the storyline or matchmaking(which beside the cheaters, is really fun) The map editor is not the reason why you should buy an OS, so if you dont want to spend the money, dont buy it. If it was their next project that was being released on Vista, I would HATE Bungie, but it is just Halo 2 so if you have extra $ buy it. If not, don't buy it.

Why in hell would i buy Windows Vista? Well Windows XP does suck thats why i have Windows 2000 Professianal. But its kickass that halo2 is coming for PC.

Oh and a new novel is great.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE EXACT DATE OF THE RELEASE OF THE VOLUME 2 SOUNDTRACK????

Good Lauord Frankie, tons of updates this week.

It's good to know you guys weren't surprised by the reactions. You have got to wonder sometimes if developers release something that they think is going to be a huge success and it flops. Leaves someone scratching their head wondering what went wrong.

Anyways, carry on with the updates, a little can lead to a lot.

Don't damage my calm.

The whole map editing tool for the halo 2 vista version just confirms for me that halo 3 will have a map editor. Think, would they spend a large amount of time and money to create a map editor for a PC port with out using it later for Halo 3? I think not. I thnk that the best bet for a halo 3 map editor would be to have it on a seperate disk that could installed on a pc. Then you could create a map on a pc (much easier with a keyboard and mouse then a controler) and move it over to the 360.

Yep, really seems like the focus has been shifted from fun to profit.

They could easily make it for XP but of course they have MS's leash on 'em.

And most importantly, they've forgotten all about Halo 2 for Box. I guess we're stuck with cheaters for a while. Not too surprising though.

It's awesome that Eric Nylund is doing another Halo novel, but may i request that there are less typos in this one? His last two were full of the bloody things!
Other than that, cool update, couldn't care less about Halo 2 for PC, i'm a student with no money to buy a decent PC to run it anyway.

Vista wasn't actually "rebuilt from scratch", but rather uses the apparently rather secure/stable Windows Server 2003 as a codebase.

'Mapmaking is something that we'd like to have fun with, and the trick is finding a balance between the super-easy Far Cry or Radiant (for Quake 3 or Doom 3) and the incredibly powerful (but occasionally tough) Unreal editor. We'll just have to see."

I would say make it full featured. The PC market tends to be far more mature and (obviously) computer savvie than the console market, UnrealEd is actually both easy to learn how to use and very powerfull. Look at some of the community maps for UT for example.

Give us the ability to edit tags as well, so I can set grunts on fire (effect.burning.large)

I worry about several things for one rather Vista will be as bug filled as XP when it was first released. I won't go into great detail or flaming.

I also worry about a large number or XBL players moving to the new PC version for new features. I myself could be one of them. I'm just curious as to how big of an effect this will have on matchmaking for XBL. I know some gametypes it can take some time to match up. Take a quarter of the community away then what will happen?

I can honestly say that I like the sound of all the new features. I still want to be able to get online and play XBL though. Since I know several of my friends will not be able to afford Vista espically if it is priced like XP or get a good enough computer to put it to its to potential. ( Meaning the most logical thing to do with the hardware they own is keep XP or 98)

What do you think of this?
