I worry about several things for one rather Vista will be as bug filled as XP when it was first released. I won't go into great detail or flaming.

I also worry about a large number or XBL players moving to the new PC version for new features. I myself could be one of them. I'm just curious as to how big of an effect this will have on matchmaking for XBL. I know some gametypes it can take some time to match up. Take a quarter of the community away then what will happen?

I can honestly say that I like the sound of all the new features. I still want to be able to get online and play XBL though. Since I know several of my friends will not be able to afford Vista espically if it is priced like XP or get a good enough computer to put it to its to potential. ( Meaning the most logical thing to do with the hardware they own is keep XP or 98)

What do you think of this?

you know, im sure someone will convert this to xp. i mean, look at the mod in my signature. this is a third party mod. someone will do this.

actually, what someone needs to do is port this to source. im not sure if this would break some sort of copyright, but the source engine kicks ass. it just does. halo would look so incredible in that realistic of an environment.

Edit: im sorry, but i am forever leaving the bungie forums. i have spent way to much time on the BM(S) forums to tolerate this -blam!-.

Yea, I agree with the XP modding of H2. It WILL happen, and i sure any modders who have seen this update are getting ready to get their hands on it to port/mod/hack it to xp...heck even mod it to work on Win95. As for Vista, its still a supid move for Bungie. Ive never agreed with their coop with M$, but if they dont smarten up and fix what they plan to do, hey, do what i plan to do. Get a ripped Vista when it comes out and grab a ripped H2 when its out. I'll NEVER buy a M$ product so long as i live. Im on XP right now...but did i buy it? Yea -blam!- right...

And to those of you who are even able to say Windows Vista is better than Mac OS or even Linux, should go take a look at the vista beta screens, and then look at OSX screens..see any similarity? The quick desktop search? The "Gadgets"? The Sidebar? the Glossy look? IE? does any of it look rather mac like? Gates is stealing Mac ideas like he did with Unix and icons long long ago. Macs will soon be the leading consumer pc. All they need is to fix on how they handle drawing graphics and processing that data so they can handle new games. The only reason they havent yet is because of the morons who stay by their Gaming PCs and wont try to convert to Mac. They just dont see a market in gaming yet, due to the consoles and the lack of the PC gamer support. They could easily wipe M$ off the map if they came out with a Mac that was based on gaming. I put alot of hope into the intel macs being able to handle the processing of games better, and if it does, then you should expect to see more game companies putting their games onto macs.

Edit: Oh and if you plan to go get vista..you better plan to buy the new keyboard that has the magic "Flip" and "Flip3D" button...all it is is a better looking Alt+Tab, and a rip off of Apple's Expose program, which doesnt need a new keyboard to access!

If bungie dosent make it for XP, it wont ever go to XP. You cant mod a 64bit program to work on a 32bit OS, it just wont work at all.

In the 360 halo two has substantial glitches. It says that maps will not load or I haven't updated it. If this had only happened to me only I would have thought that sucked and got over it but several of my friends with 360's have also encountered this problem. I've tried redownloading the maps but it still doesn't help. I'd really appreciate it if you would look into it thanks.

P.S.After you finish making Halo 3 it would be awesome if you remade halo 1. Me and my friends love haveing a classic halo 1 fest. New graphics would be a big plus.

will the H2 PC version have some of the features H1 pc had? like the Rocket Hog and the Fuel rod and Flamethrower? or are they gonna be gone for good?

Gez, whinny people abound...
Look, if you want to play this new version of Halo 2, just wait until you end up getting a PC with Vista. Or, you could run out and nab it when it hits the shelves. No biggie.

I mean look at your selves. Complaining that it will be compatable with some systems and not others... I wanted Kameo: Elements of Power, so guess what?! I bought a XBOX 360. duh. Get over it. Eventually we'll all have Vista with a crapload of other cool Microsoft games. Those who say that Microsoft is evil are the ones who still insist that being a strong and smart company is bad, and that there are rabid Balverines under their beds. Right, I'm off...

Prehaps you have the money my friend, but some don’t. Do not copy the Rich’s mind set. There are people below you who live off of every pay check trying to pay everything off. Hell, most people in this world are still poor and looking for a meal. Don’t be cruel and look down on them when the very few things they can enjoy are charged up.

Well if you have tested the latest version of vista, you would see a lot of Linux and apple specs incorperated into Vista. Even IE7 has tabs like Firefox. Again, they have gone along way. I am no fan of Windows, i prefer LINIX. But Vista seems to match most if not all its features, and then some. Its nothing like a re-done XP. XP is horrible when it comes to sucurtiy. Thats why i used LINIX then. It will be about 3-4 years when everyone will have XP or Vista software. Ever heard of Red Alert? Well it is a Windows 95 game. It wont run on an XP. In fact there are a lot of ME and 98 apps that wont run on a XP. Your right, it wont be for a couple of years, but from what i have used of it is a great plus to my PC. Better then *GASP* Linix. Which we all knows Kicks all Windows butts up to date....
I will admit that I haven't tested any version of Vista, but I have followed it for a while now. but I highly doubt that Windows Vista will ever come close to the level of Linux in lack of viruses, stability, and minimalism. XP tried to fix security with SP2, and at least for me, it -blam!- up every game I had. Also it blocks apps that are made by MS. The SP2 Firewall asked me if I wanted to block Internet Explorer! If games were made for Linux and XP, and you compared them side to side, I can almost guarentee Linux would win, because Linux uses next to no resources, which makes it great. Unfortunatly, you must know a good amount of Unix to be able to use it fully, and there are no good "games" made for Linux. Now I'm getting offtopic, my point is, you dont need Vista for Halo2 PC. It is a marketing strategy by MS, and I think its just plain wrong.

The beta’s that I have used on Vista still have some security problems that windows norm has, but it looks like they were trying to fix them, but then desided to send off the beta and see what would happen. Its to early to tell if they will fix all the bugs, but I can tell you that so much is changed that it looks like hackers will have to try much harder. (unless they find a exploit) Also, I still have some stuff that is blocked, but I was told that’s because there were to many bugs in the beta to run some things. (like Media Edition)

Okay. I usually never post on this website, but you guys dissapoint me. Befoer you said you weren't trying to sell Vistas for Micrsosoft. So you happen to tell me that the biggest game ever is comign to computer and they didn't have a say in it? You made Halo for Xbox to sell Xbox's. Your making it on computer to sell Vistas. I don't like it when companies are subject to financial schemes...and I like it even less when they lie about it. Your work for Microsoft. You are independent to some degree, but you want to stay on their good side. It's obvious. Don't be fake.

They weren’t faking it. They were trying to tell you that in a way so they won’t get fired. ;) They have to listen to MS. And if you don’t like money making skemes, why don’t you shoot yourself right now and get it over with. Because I can tell you right now, that everyday there is some kind of money scam. Look at George W. Bush. Nuff said. (Great Business man I must say.)
Oh, and please don’t literally shoot yourself. I was meaning that in a non-rhetorical way. I just waned you to see that it is always goanna happen, especially in the corporate world. Apple even does it. That’s life now a days.

Hey guys, why is everyone hating on Bungie? this is obviously not their decision.

Remember they are 0WNED by Microsoft, they are the boss, they set the rules, and they will do what they want with their products (Halo 2 and Vista).

Bungie independent? my ass.

This is Microsoft's marketing ploy, NOT Bungie's.

Hell, I bet even they (bungie) are probably a little pissed about this too! but of course they can't admit it nor can they argue with the people that pay their bills.

So take it out on Microsoft. ;)

If bungie has no say whatsoever in the development of Halo2, they should be given the red headed stepchild treatment for effectivly abbandoning their fans...

Saving up to a house is expensive to, guess what takes precedence a game or a house...

Not going to happen keeping a pc up to specs is expensive as it is without being forced to buy a new pc just so it can run Vista just so I could play a single game on it...

1500-1600 bucks just to play Halo2...

If Bungie want to keep a foot on the pc market they put down their foot now says NO! to Microsoft and releases an xp compatible version of Halo2...

By releasing Halo2 on Vista only Bungie will loose the majority of potential pc gamers buying the game, Halo2 is already an outdated game, the initial console sales boom has depleted its appeal and then they will release it on a limited platform basis like Vista that pretty much will require a brand new spankin monster pc rig just to run...

the low sales alone threatens any future Halo game from being released on the pc...

Talk about burning the bridge on both side while the bridge is painted with rocket fuel while having a mob with pitchforks and torches to finish Bungie of...

If Bungie would have released Halo2 as a crossplatform game from the start everyone would have been playing Halo2 by now Xboxers and PC users alike...

Hey, Atkins! This one's for you. :)

Now, being a Gamer, (specifically for the console side), I know that a certain amount of K@$H must be set aside for hardware and software. Myself, I wait the 3-4 years between consoles to buy them. Saved a ton for the 360 myself! Also, not to brag, but I have great taste in games, only buying one or two stinkers for my 'ol BOX. MY POINT was not to scramble like mad-men to the Comp-USA or whatever, to pay out the wazoo for a next gen computer system to play an X-BOX game with some (cool) bells and whistles, unless you've got the money and want it BAD.

Now, about your dividing the world into classes bit... Yes. Most of the world doesn't have the financial oppertunites that Americans have. I'm aware that 99.9% of Ethiopia, Guatemalla, and Haiti won't be buying Vista anytime soon. If I were rich, I wouldn't be working at a department store this afternoon, and I've bills and crap to pay off too mate! Men's dept...it beats shoes, but YUK! Anyhoo, You can't judge people by how fat a wallet they have, or doesn't have. But I can tell you: If someone is living pay check to paycheck, then I don't think that they should invest in a new expensive PC at that point in time, nor would they probably have the high-speed internet connection needed to play online. Maybe not the extra funds for the game its self... You never know.

Three things before I jet:
1) Don't put people into "classes" that in its self divides people and makes its own problems. People have more or less money for an infinate amount of reasons.
2) Don't turn this thing into a Red vs. Blue (state) thing. I mean that...
3) Companies make money. They MUST if they want to remain a company. You know... selling quality stuff to people, to make jobs... fuel the economy....

I don't see people by their economic status by the way. I just see people. Stank, ugly, strange humans... ;)

Im concerned now Bungie, i hope you know what your doing because im suddenly thinking that you won't sell as much copies of Halo 2 PC now, instead of people loving the idea (like i) you have quite alot of people hating it.
I recomend that you make it on XP, i hope you change your minds in the nearby future. I am forever grateful that you are making Halo 2 on PC.

Im looking forward to what you say in your next update.

I know that my complaining, and showing why it wont succeed on Vista will probably fail, but at least bungie knows how big of their fanbase is pissed off at what a stupid choice they made by allowing MS to buy them out. Hopefully they will say something good about all this commenting, but after this update, I think they will just ignore it and continue to make it. And Atkins, that is an interesting point you made about ISP's and Cell phones. Did you know that we pay i thin its a 6% tax on our cell bills because of a war that we had over 200 years ago!

They may be trying to do this but it will never take effect. As things become cheaper and easier to implement more people are going to expect cheaper and hassle free service.

Verizon and Comcast don't own the internet or the hardware used to run it. They may own a portion of the hadware but don't own it all. I can assure you that if this is tried it will not work. Everyone is happy with the current system of a flat monthly rate. THe only way this could be implemented successfully is if they did a system where you get a flat monthly rate or pay by bandwidth consumption, so you have a choice. This would only benefit people who don't use the internet alot but want the high speed.

As far as Halo2 for PC being on vista. It worries me XP was beta tested although not as throughly and it turned out to have a lot of bugs when they released it. From expierence it seems that Microsoft is overly eager to push there products to the shelves instead of testing real thourghly. I can give them this that testing a OS is no small task and there are things that will happen that no one could have possible forseen. I still don't like the though of pushing a game onto a brandnew OS I like for there to be time to see what happens as people get the new OS what update problems there are, what software isn't working on it, and of course the bugs. I think that vista will probably offer alot of features that XP doesn't and will make the game run smoothly. This is the smartest thing to do as a business.

Despite all of this I think that the biggest concern shouldn't be how this is going to hurt our bank account and more on how it is going to effect the existing community. I just imagine a good chunck of the community moving out of H2 for Xbox and getting it for PC. That would really effect the online expierence. There would probably have to be a playlists cut to keep matchmaking from becoming slow and would really kill the amount of variety that we have now.

I think bungie is making a good move as a business but I'm interested on how they think this will effect the XBL community.

you are the biggest ass-kisser I have ever seen, and I bet you hope with all your heart every day that you could beta any version of Halo 2 PC. There is no reason for porting it to the new OS, except maybe DIrectX 10. I havent seen one bungie employee/forum mod or admin say anything about what we have posted. That shows how dedicated they are to their fanbase. So what that we are forum posters, we have came up with better reasons to not have Halo 2 PC vista only than they did for it only on Vista. I wonder why that is, maybe because they are doing it to sell Vista? you should try reading some of the "wining" posts, because we actually have good points.

Its going to be kick@ss and they made and used advantage of Vista in bad ways and good ways. The amount off new stuff that isn't in the xbox version is going to be awesome, can't wait ...
