I've posted this in a few of the private group forums but I want to see some reaction from the scum, I mean regular and cool people here in Zanzibar so read on!

So I was reading through the latest newsposts and noticed Bungie have announced Halo 2 for PC at last. Now obviously, the biggest and best thing coming out of this is the 'make your own maps' element. And analysing what Frankie has said, it sounds like they're going to make a very good and simple to use map editor for it as well.

Mapmaking is something that we'd like to have fun with, and the trick is finding a balance between the super-easy Far Cry or Radiant (for Quake 3 or Doom 3) and the incredibly powerful (but occasionally tough) Unreal editor. We'll just have to see.[/i]

Now that's all well and good but surely they could put all that work into making their next project? But then (and maybe this is me dreaming/looking too far into this) I thought what if the map editor was being made for another reason.......?!

As in this...
What if Bungie put some of the best home-made Halo 2 PC maps up on Xbox Live for download (as in, they could hold competitions and put 2 maps a month up). That should be really easy shouldn't it? I'm sure a big company *cough* Mountain Dew *cough* would be happy to sponsor such a big thing as this (my point being, they'd be free as they're fan-made). And you can't say it wouldn't keep the game fresh and make it a ton of fun again.

Let's face it, Halo 3 is not coming until atleast Summer 2007 (most likely November to keep in with tradition, and to build as much hype as possible), so in terms of a hardcore gamer who plays whenever he can (such as me), that's a long time. Sure, they'll be other games (Splinter Cell, Forza 2, Star Trek: Legacy!!!), but the reason we all love Xbox is Halo.

So I see this as a huge chance for them to keep it fresh, without distracting Bungie from their 'Next Project' (which shouldn't ever be allowed to happen), and to help maintain the hype machine that is Halo.

Anyway, please comment/discuss.
