Just a quick (well, long) note to show my support for Bungie.
They gave us Halo, and along with it came ten years of awesome fun. Halo games will never be the same ever again - I mean, sure, they'll be fun as usual - but you just can't add that "Bungie" touch to the game if you're not... well, Bungie.
When I first joined Bungie.net nine years ago, it was shortly after I had beaten the Halo 1 Campaign on Legendary. I had completed the game and needed more Halo action and knew that somewhere on the internet (as ancient as it was back then) I would be able to watch for news. For months, years even, I scoured Bungie.net and watched the Weekly Updates with bated breath. I searched every last corner of ilovebees.com looking for anything to shed some light(those who have been around since the pre-Halo 2 era will understand that one).
And then when Bungie finally officially announced Halo 2 it was one of the biggest announcements in history. It was exciting. I remember waiting outside EB Games at 6pm on November 8th, 2004 and was second in line to get my Limited Edition copy. At 12am on November 9th, 2004 Halo 2 finally released.
And after that came many more years of Halo awesomeness, Halo 3, ODST, Reach... every Bungie announcement was more and more awesome. Even map pack announcements were just as exciting.. I remember waiting up until 5am EST to download them as that's usually when they would be released. Every game got better, keeping elements from prior games and adding new awesome stuff. And, as always, Bungie was full of jokes, fun, and surprises for the community... whether it be Johnson hugging the Elite at the end of Halo 1, or the Jerk Store Grunt at the end of Halo 3. There was always something awesome.
Being devoted to the community is important but can be difficult to manage. Bungie has never failed at keeping the community engaged and excited, and we remain loyal to Bungie.
It takes a unique kind of developer to keep fans engaged and to keep playing your games over and over again. There's not a single Halo Campaign that I don't have memorized step for step because over the years I've played them all countless time.
Bungie has a certain touch they add to games, and it won't ever be the same without them.
So here's to Bungie, the creators of Master Chief, the creators of Cortona, the creators of the Covenant.
Here's to Bungie. The Team that is the one true creator of Halo.
I can't wait to see what they've got in store for us in the future. And so begins the pre-Halo 2 era of watching Bungie.net as close as ever for any sign of news, sarcastic but serious comments from staff that may hint towards a future project or announcement. This is going to be good.
Cheers
