As perfect as Halo 2 was, it was really a butchered -blam!-storm when it got down to it. Bungie cut sooooo much from the game including:
-Entire levels/sections
-Weapons functions (1-shot scoped BR)
-Enemies
Further, they weren't able to fix a huge abundance of glitches that we all know Halo 2 for. And then let's not even get started on the texture pop. The story was underdeveloped poop as well. Pretty much just Master Chief defending Earth, getting to Halo, getting captured by Gravemind, then infiltrating High Charity. Not much to say there. The Arbiter had a bit more than that, even.
But I'll admit that Bungie had a much better vision for Halo 2. It was gonna be absolutely insane. And even though it didn't turn out that way, I still love it anyways for some reason. It's a great, glitchy, underdeveloped game, but it was entertaining as hell. Really, the draw was the multiplayer.
I wish Halo 2: Anniversary would see the light of day, but I don't know if I see that happening. Sure, it'll be the only Halo to not be on the 360 come this November, but the next few years of Halo are already planned out, with Halo 4 coming next year. Also might be overkill on the remake market to remake 2 games on the same console (or, considering the lifespan of consoles nowadays, within 3 years of each other).
But it would be amazing to witness Halo 2's multiplayer rebirth... But we all know if they do bring it back, it'll be campaign, with a bunch of Halo 2 maps brought into Halo 4...
