Subject: Reach Mark V and CE Anniversary Mark V

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

I've noticed that everything in the CE remake looks like Reach, enemies, marines, etc. So I figured that John would look like This.
But instead he looks like This (remember the helmet has been fixed
Now people are complaining about the armor but it looks like nothing more than a high quality version of the CE armor.
But this has made me wonder, is the default armor in Reach really Mark V?

Several armor pieces are described as Mark V but that's not talking about the default chest.
Now look at the Cole Protocol Mark IV.
The chest piece looks oddly familiar to the default chest in Reach. (Also noted that little painted symbol on the armor is on Carter too.)

This had led me to believe, that the default armor in Reach is nothing more than the Final Production Model of the Mark IV system. We see that Jorge's Mark IV Grenadier supports energy shields. We also see several Mark IV armor pieces in Reach.

Another thing is that the Mark V shoulders seem to "attach" to the armor. It's not built in like it appears in other media.

EDIT: It's never stated in the game or anywhere else that the default armor is Mark V.

I think the marines/troopers and AR are just place-holders.

Also, don't you think the visor looks awful?

I dont think the look of the CEA Mk V has any bearing on the model number of the Reach Mjolnir, I think its simply artistic license. The Mjolnir has changed constantly in each game, and often for no other reason than artistic tweaks.

I think it is a shame that the armour is so inconsistent throughout the games (campaign and multiplayer permutations) but I guess its bound to happen. Same goes for the look of Covenant and UNSC characters/weapons/vehicles.

If the helmet's been fixed, is there a picture for it? I'd like to see it.

Not sure if this is the final product, but this has been floating around the interwebs.

Looks like his helmet on the cover of 'First Strike'.

I'm pretty sure the armor in Reach is a different variant that was issued to members of Noble Team.

Mark. V[B], I think.

This is the original Mark V.

Mark V(B) is a helm (Maybe shoulders?), nothing more.

They should have made Chief look like this IMO.

Didn't you post this exact thread in the waypoint forum?

Despite appearances it's still Mk V regardless. What defines the armor is the internal components and features. Not necessarily the outward appearance. It's likely that the Chief's armor would be the same as the rest of his fellow Spartan IIs, but whether or not it's the default is up in the air. Still, you can't discount the Noble Mk V as a version of Mk IV because it has features that the Mk IV did not possess.

Quoted from Vociferous

: I'm not sure if you guys can answer this or not, but what's up with the Mark
: IV? The Cole Protocol and Halo Wars have completely different, but is
: there one that is the definitive Mark IV?

The individual generations or "marks" of MJOLNIR have more to do with internal components and software than the armor's external shape and coverings. In point of fact: Noble Team utilizes Mark V armor:

http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?cid=24623

Visibly and distinctively different than the Chief's from Halo 1, but nevertheless the same generation. Similar conclusions could be made about the apparent differences shared across the Mark IV platform, which was in service for a significantly longer period of time.

Make sense?

I was under the impression that the Mark V in Halo: Reach (the armor, not necessarily the helmet,) was still under testing, and that it wasn't as complete as the Mark V seen in Halo: Combat Evolved.

So what we have in Reach is different, but it's because - according to my understanding - the Mark V in Reach is optimized for experimental equipment (AA's and the like,) and lacks the capacity for AI that the H:CE(A) Mark V has. For all intents and purposes, I would "classify" the Halo: Reach Mark V as Mark 4.5

It better not be, the visor is way to short. Honestly,if they used the halo reach's Mark V helmet, I would be fine with it.

This.

If they just updated the visuals and changed nothing aesthetically. That would have been perfect. But no, they have to remodel him into a bit of this and a bit of that....

-_-

Pretty sure that's the final product. It's being promoted as a Halo: CEA background. It looks fine, I think.

This is Sparta!!! eh I mean Reach ^^

MJOLNIR Mark V stands actually only for the fifth generation of Dr. Halsey's MJOLNIR combat suits. The Mark I, II and III were rather like robotic mobile suits which made the carrier or better say pilot over 7 or even 8 feet high. WHile the Mark I and II were described as not really operational as it was difficult to power the mobile suits long enough for combat operations, Mark III was more or less a success but was way too expensive to enter service (Prototype was destroyed in Halo Legends "Prototype" as part of the cole protocol). Remember that those mobile suits were meant to be piloted by regular UNSC operators as the Spartan II program was not ready.
Mark IV was the first generations of MJOLNIR armor that were designed as an armor suit for Spartan soldiers that fit the carrier's body size.
Mark IV suits (issued in the year 2525) seen in Halo Wars were the standard version while other variants also existed such like EVA or Grenadier variants etc. The Mark IV armor suits were usually slightly bulkier than the Mark V (issued in 2551) because they only rely on physical armor as the Mark IV did not have the shield energy yet.
The Mark V shoulder armor parts in Halo Reach is the basic one but that does not mean that Master Chief's Mark V armor was all standard variants. If you look closely on the shoulders of Master Chief in Halo CE on XBOX, the shoulde parts were much more bulkier and looked rather like the ODST shoulder parts instead of the standard Mark V.

Speaking of the appearance of Master Chief's armor in the Halo CE Anniversary trailer presented at the E3, Frank O'Connor replied in an interview, that the footage was from an earlier stage and that the revised one did not make it in the E3.
So we can relax a bit and hope that the final design of Mark V helmet looks rather like in Halo 3 or Halo Reach.

Um, just to point out, the armor in Halo Legends prototype was not MJOLNIR Mark III. It was a completely different armor/weapon system platform.

It was not mentioned what suit it was in the anime. But please check the journal of Dr. Halsey from Halo Reach Limited Edition.
It contains the concept design of the Mark III and looks quite similar to that from Halo Legends. Also at Halo Waypoint, they had released a video about MJOLNIR and they included that suit from Halo Legends.

I think he should have the armour in the trailer, but the helmet should look mostly like the one in Reach. THe only change I think the helmet should have between the Reach version and the Anniversary version is that the black part just above the visor should be separated not joined together.

EDIT: I've always considered the The Cole Protocol armour to be a sort of "Mark IV[B]".
