So NOW what?
What would happen if a BR and an SMG had kids? Halo Reach Spawn Weapon of choice, of course!

So I just dusted off my old copy of halo mac, and now that I have a big monitor and capable g5 PPC i was ready to get nostalgic online with other Halo Mac/PC folks. When I went to the matchmaking lobby there were no IPs or games to speak of. I waited for like a half hour and not one person came in. I started my own game on Hang Em High and played solo for awhile getting reacquainted and no one showed up either.

Is there something wrong with the halo mac version that the online matchmaking for that is gone now? I have read that since Halo Mac wasn't given a port to Halo Custom Edition that they wouldn't be able to see and play in those games. But, I atleast thought Id be able to play the old classic maps with people!

Thoughts? Any help would save so much time searching google, which Ive already done to no avail. ;(

I'll be the first to ask, have you made sure the game is currently up to date with the latest patch (1.09)?

Do you have a firewall/ Antivirus software that could be blocking some online features?

Have you downloaded and installed this patch?

That may fix your problems.

Otherwise, look up Halo Universal Binary it costs $5, all you need is your serial key to install it. I'm sure you could find means to download it without the $5, and since you would be using your own serial key there shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you to everyone for responding. All of the info is great and I'll look into all of them. I did update one patch, and I did try to download the Binary Release but it asked to search for the Universal Halo or something and I didn't know where on my computer to go.

I do point it there, but then the choose doesn't have anything available to click on. I can get to the Applications folder where the Shaders, FX and Halo Icon is, but nothing looks available to "choose" to then place the Universal Binary.

What does the Universal Binary Edition do?

I think, you need the UB Edition in order to play with the majority of servers.

As you can see there.

The UB Edition improves performance on Intel Macs, and also PPC ones.

Was an extensive rewriting of the code.

I'm on PC.

So basically, halo Mac users have to pay for Apple's own errors?

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

Sorry I don't really know much about Halo PC on the Mac operating system, but my guess would be that you have a firewall or something with your network that is preventing you from playing. Based on the previous posts, that is the only solution I can really think of if you made sure the game is updated.

Dude, I'm having no trouble at all! I don't own a Mac, I'm using Halo PC, ON PC. :)

What I'm asking is: was halo universal binary edition basically a paid-for patch?

Kinda tight, even for Apple.

I thought UB was one big patch you had to pay for, I didn't realize it was a major code rewrite.

But halo original works on Intel based machines doesn't it? Why did they rewrite it?

It would work, but don't forget that it is a different architecture to that of which was PowerPC.

So yes it may work on Intel, but it wouldn't run as it should. Basically.

As a result they rewrote all the code so it would run natively without any problems.

That is why it costs 5 of your American dollars, just a simple, small update, of course no charge would be done. The fact it is time consuming to rewrite all the code, and fix bugs etc, I'm sure that's why there's a charge.

As said, you can just torrent it and input a legal key.
