If good looks could kill, I'd be a weapon of mass destruction.

Q: Hey, what did Hitler say to the black jew?
A: Get to the back of the oven.

I'll keep this as short and sweet as possible.

Anybody remember in "First Strike" when the characters experience time dilation and time travel due to the Forerunner (or perhaps Precursor) crystal?

Well, besides that whole concept being COMPLETELY pointless and mind-fu*king fans for absolutely NO REASON other than to do it (seriously, does anybody understand why Nylund/Bungie/Microsoft decided to put that into the story? There really was no point), it may be the key to the canonical errors of the franchise.

Okay, so does anybody know what the point of the crystal was? It warped space and time...okay...so what happened to Halo? If the characters time travelled...are there multiples of them? WHAT EVENTS DID AND DID NOT HAPPEN? WHY IS THIS EVEN IN THE FREAKIN' STORYLINE?!

Sorry, I'm getting off topic. But therein lies the point. Because the crystal is such a horrible plot device that only serves to destroy any possibility of anything in the story from being true, it allows the canon to be rewritten over and over again. Because, hey, maybe Reach fell in one day according to TFOR. But after the crystal messed everything up, BAM, all of the events at Reach change.

This theory is both satirical (because of the amazing stupidity of the crystal as a plot device), and serious (because it now, unfortunately I might add, can fix canon with its stupidity).

Discuss!

Don't give 343i any ideas, OP!

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

The only time this time travel/alternative universe thing has been pulled off successfully IMO. Is in Doctor Who and the recent Star Trek movie.

The rest just makes your mind say, why?

I guess that is a lame way to "fix" the timeline hole issues between all the different sources. Probably, there are other canon problems when comparing all the Halo media, but this one was just dumb or careless to let it happen. It's not like the people behind had to make a great effort to make all the dates accurate...

oh this is going to make 343 lazy, although this does give them plot leeway in H1 anniversary...DIRTY MIND bad thoughts bad thoughts.(sucks thumb in fetal position)

p.s. PLEASE lock this thread so 343 will NEVER look at it. no offense OP

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Technically when MC and Cortana travel back in time, there's another group of them that are still on Halo. But eventually they go back and time and the process repeats. It's not creating infinite universes, they just traveled back in time.
So technically, when you're playing Halo: Combat Evolved, at a certain point MC is also on Reach rescuing Halsey.

I would like 343i try and use this to justify MC waking up with a pre-installed jet pack in his armour that was not there when he entered cryostasis.

And therein lies the problem.

That means there are two Master Chiefs running around the Halo universe.

But...it doesn't make sense.

WHY WAS THE CRYSTAL INTRODUCED TO CANON AT ALL? IT WASN'T NEEDED.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Here's a line from the man himself:
"That's not going to happen..."

This has to be one of the more stupid things you've come up with, it must be said.
