Subject: Why not an Halo 2 remake for its anniversary?

Seeing as how they are doing Halo CEA, I would find it interesting to do Halo 2 as well. It was the biggest sold game of the time after all and it had a cool campaign, not even mentionning the multiplayer maps. Just imagining Quarantine Zone with 360 graphics is really an eye-candy(or mind-candy... whatever). Putting the same option to switch between the old graphics to the new like in CEA would also be a great idea. Anyway, I find the idea interesting, what's your thought? Im I the only one thinking about it?

  • 06.12.2011 7:45 PM PDT

itd be awesome but the reason they are doing halo ce is because it started everything.

  • 06.12.2011 7:50 PM PDT

Yeah I guess the going back to the roots is the motivation for the remake. Its sad because Halo 2 has so much potential too. Oh god I can't remove this idea from my head. Just seeing all those great level being pimped-up with 360 graphics would be so amazing.

If you didn't Play Halo: CE or Halo 2 MP, your opinion about Halo means nada.

CE + H2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> H3+Reach+H4

They screwed up the CE remake, I don't even wanna know how bad they would mess up Halo 2.

it would be like remastered campaign and 4 Halo Wars maps as the MP component

  • 06.12.2011 8:01 PM PDT

Don't accuse the remake of sucking, it's the actual SAME engine as Halo 1... only with better graphics. PLUS you can switch to the old ones so... it's basically buying Halo 1 with the option of turning the 360 graphics on. How bad is that? I would absolutely love the same for Halo 2.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Yes, remake it using an enhanced Halo 3 engine.

When I heard about the remake of CE, I thought the exact same thing. I miss those Halo 2 Multiplayer maps...

They screwed up the CE remake,

Oh, so you've played it?

I really hate [OMIT]-gobblers like this. "I don't like the graphical differences, so it's ruined! -tantrum tantrum- And before you go haywire, Nightsnipe, the aforementioned "tantrum" is implied.

On the topic of Halo 2 remastered, honestly I don't see why they wouldn't. They've already cracked the door by bringing Halo: Combat Evolved into the next-gen; to me a remake of Halo 2 would almost be expected. Why leave it in the dust while the other games progress onto later consoles? (and we all know the next Xbox will still be able to play 360 games...)

What do you meant they screwed it up? It looks awesome to me and very faithful to the original, the graphic switch is a great acknowledgment to the original Halo.

As for a Halo 2 Anniversary.... why not? I'd love to see a modern graphics version of Headlong and Waterworks.

Could you tell me how exactly did they screw it up? It's a straight copy of the original game, only thing that changed is graphics. They even use the original engine.

Yeah, let's just remake every other Halo game despite them not even being 10 years old. No, seriously, that would be very stupid.

No OP is right. If there was any game I'd want remade, I'd want Halo 2. IMO it had the best campaign. Delta Halo, Hetropolis, Regret, Quarentinve zone, The Heretic one (forgot the name). Too much good and nostalgia...

What? Dude, we're talking about remaking Halo 2 by November 9, 2014. Why would that be so bad?

  • 06.12.2011 10:22 PM PDT

Halo 1 and 2 are the two only games that weren't made on the 360. Why is remaking them with advanced graphics is a bad idea? Halo 1 is kind of the going back to the roots of campaign mode, but Halo 2... it was THE multiplayer everyone praysed all those year(and the campaign was still great!). Remember Containment? Headlong? If they're already doing Halo 1 with HD graphics, why not Halo 2? Im just saying it's an interesting idea.

I ask why? 343 doesn't need to remake Halo 2. I'd rather the devote to the new trilogy and expanded universe instead of rehashing the same old -blam!-.

Let me lay it out like this. It's getting to the point where they're going to be developing a new Xbox. We all know it's coming, it's technological progression. Halo 2 has problems playing on the 360 already. I don't know if anyone else has this issue, but on my copy the background sometimes freezes a "silhouette" into my view, and it layers to the point where I can't see anything. A remake would alleviate this.

To add to this, the multiplayer lost support, because the Xbox LIVE was shut down to make more room for the 360 LIVE. Now multiplayer maps that were DLC are all but lost; maps that could be recovered in a remake. Add to this the possibility of Forge and integration with Reach (or at that point Halo 4) multiplayer, and we've got a whole new beast.

It would be more than "rehashing the same old -blam!-," it would be keeping the dream alive. Making it so that kids who never played Halo 2 (and how many copies do you see lying around?) can experience it with better graphics and possibly things added that the developers wanted in from the get-go.

That sounds like all rainbows and butterflies, but 343 is here to expand the Halo lore, something I am becoming very hesitant in them doing. All these remakes will do is distract them from their new trilogy, no matter how good or bad it could be.

Instead of remaking them, they could keep them in all their glory as DLC titles for Arcade or Xbox On Demand, like they did with Halo: CE. Port the favorite maps of old to their new games and there you go.

Hmm. You must have missed the part about "Adding to the games things that they wished in from the get-go." Did you know they're adding Terminals to Halo: CEA? Something that will - yes, you guessed it - expand the Halo Universe.

Imagine references to ODST, and things about it that may help explain much of the game. Now that we have Halo 3: ODST established and we know about Virgil, imagine an integration of the New Mombasa AI into those levels of the game. Nothing canon-changing, but perhaps an interaction between Cortana and Virgil?

Why limit them to an XOD title, using up a ton of memory that most users possibly don't have? Do you know if XOD titles are even capable of Matchmaking Not to mention an upgrade in the graphics. While graphics aren't everything, not everyone can be happy with Xbox era graphics forever. Maybe we want to see a Cortana that doesn't look hideous, or a Miranda Keyes that doesn't look like a Barbie doll reject. And maybe, just maybe, they'll add a configuration that lets you go back to those "treasured" graphics like they have in Halo: CEA.

Better yet, they could *gasp* make books to expand the lore. Many other sci-fi stories like Star Wars have gone on fine without rehashing the same story, well at least in everything other than games ironically, damn constant revisits to Hoth!

If 343 is going to make more Halo games, I would prefer new, original stories. Those could be given terminals and such too and still add to the lore on their own. Remakes are simply not necessary.

Clearly you don't remember somewhere around the late 90's to early 2000's, when they digitally "Remastered" the Original Trilogy, adding such things as Dewbacks and other creatures into Mos Eisley, as well as a new dialogue scene with Jaba and Han Solo in A New Hope.

And what exactly did those add? Those additions, aside from the Jabba scene, were pointless and looked like crap. Not to mention they weren't remakes. A re-release is not the same as a remake. Both are money grabbing schemes though.

I believe we will see one. Although they need to put multiplayer in the halo 2 engine. Halo 2 is still perhaps the best and most fun multiplayer ever created. Well after the first year. The glitches weren't even annoying. They were fun. You could super bounce for hours, competitively you had BXB or BXR effectively to out-do your opponent and every single map in halo 2 I loved, even backwash for customs of zombies. Halo 2 was just simply amazing. Il actually have fun watching the cliffhanger ending :)
