Do you consider the Gravemind worthy to hold the title of the main antagonist of the Halo series? Why or why not? Do you believe he poses a significant threat to the protagonists? Why or why not?

Proof!

Covenant are the main enemy... the Flood is like... in the annoying block-aid that is a distraction you don't need.

I think he is. He was enough to humble the Master Chief, even though the Arbiter was still defiant and arrogant as always.

SPARTAN-117: "Relax, I'd rather not piss this thing off."

ARBITER: "Kill me or release me parasite, but do not waste my time with talk!"

Only in the Human-Covenant war

The Flood were the enemy of the entire galaxy.

They would wipe the flood with the covies

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

He's very well developed villain, especially in Cryptum and Human Weakness. I look forward to seeing him again.

I pray for an appearance in his original form.

Now that would be awesome.

During Human-Covenant War, Covenant was main antagonist until sometime after Halo CE, I can safely say that Gravemind is indeed, main antagonist. He said he'll come back very soon, so it would mean that Gravemind and probably Precrusors being main antagnoist in Halo 4.

I hope so,Truth wasn't a worthy villian.

All he did was -blam!- in his stupid voice,i preffered his voice in Halo 2.

All I know is if there is a new villain he better humble Master Chief vehemently.

There won't be. Introducing a whole new enemy is poor storytelling. The've been building the mystery of the Gravemind up for a while now. Halo 4's villain will be him, possibly in his original form (a Precursor).

While I agree, I believe his voice was intended to show the madness he was enduring. He starts off in Contact Harvest as a humble Minister who doesn't devotely believe in the Forerunners, but rather believes merely because of their being no other alternate explanation for their disappearance. He loved the Covenant, not the Forerunners.

As time progresses, he begins believing his own propaganda, he becomes mad with power until he ultimately is consumed by it and dies because of what he did with it.

Moral of the story: faith is the ultimate weapon, but it can also be the ultimate salvation.

I've said it time and time again: Halo's story and characters are pretty damn good.

On an entertainment level however, they overdid the voice.

The Prophet of Truth was so fantastic in Halo 2. Then they buggered him up in Halo 3. You can throw in some crap about faith making him mad as much as you want.

Doesn't change the fact he was still a -blam!- villain in Halo 3.

Well, the gravemind has been in alot of halo games and maybe it is time to change it up. it is hinted in halo one, and is seen in halo two and three. maybe. but the flood has been weakend and the protagonists have no large threat from it.

Oh, and to answer the topic at hand: yes, I believe the Mind is a worthy adeversary. While a lot of sci-fi villains are under the deluded vision that they are all things, the Gravemind's belief he is all things is founded by scientifically provable facts and evidence based on how he harvests minds and memories.

He is all personalities, all hate, all anger, all sadness, all grief, all love, all war, and all death that has ever been experienced in the galaxy, and perhaps the universe. He, for all intents and purposes, is the universe incarnate.

Imagine it as a Yin-Yang. The Precursors are the good, the angels, God, and Heaven. The Gravemind, the fallen Precursor imprisoned for all eternity, is the devil, the snake in the garden, the demon. Hell.

All living things have these sides to them. And remember: "The Universe lives, but not as we do "

Let me clarify: he was good as a character from an objective, theoretical standpoint point. Did they pull it off well? No.

But the base personality and motives are good and well thought out. Execution, in Halo 3 anyway, sucked.

I guess. I thought the transition was too quick. He's this cold, calculating megalomaniac when he boards the Dreadnought and then suddenly in Halo 3 he's "I'm the generic evil alien!"

I didn't really care for it. Ruined one of my favourite aspects of Halo 2, really.
