Alright so throughout the Halo trilogy you used the flashlight to light up the darkest areas of the game. In ODST and Reach you had VISR/Night Vision. I personally think if there's gonna be Flood in Halo 4, you've got to have the flashlight. It makes the game more creepy and makes you feel less vulnerable since your vision is limited to the area the flashlight lights. VISR/Night Vision were necessary for ODST though cause you needed VISR mode to navigate the dark streets of New Mombasa. Night vision.....was kinda pointless....only used it bout 5 times throughout the entire Reach campaign. So the winner for me.....Flashlight. Just to enhance the creepiness of the game.

Flashlight, Mjolnir doesn't have VISR to my knowledge.

The torch from Doom.

lol that'd make it even more creepier.

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

Flashlights seem to be outdated, but I hope they'll return.

The Halo 4 trailer seems to indicate a return of flashlight in some form, but who knows what 343 will implement.

Something better than the VISR.

  • 06.13.2011 10:58 AM PDT

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Flashlight. Only because it'd make completely no sense for Master Chief to have VISR mode.

  • 06.13.2011 11:07 AM PDT

This is Sparta!!! eh I mean Reach ^^

Since master chief always had flashlight, i dont think
That the night vision could be in halo4, unless he
gets a mark vii suit which is rather unlikely.
the night vision in the halo reach campaign
Was mostly used in nightfall, exodus and new alexandria.
in firefight i often use it, especially in sniperfight

VISR, because from a tactical point of view having a set of torches attached to either side of your head is the most retarded thing you could possibly do as a soldier. almost like painting a bullseye on your forehead and a sign saying 'shoot here...', so personally hope common sense prevails and the VISR returns in some form or another instead of the torch!

Edit: also, the armour is the single most advanced piece of human technology, shielded, fusion reactor, durable as hell, advanced computer storage medium built into the armour, yet they can't raise the bar and give him something better than a torch attached to his head, come on people!

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I fail to realize any tactical bonus a flashlight would give, other than giving away your position it's useless. John shouldn't need it, considering he alongside all the other Spartan II's and III's can see in the dark.

As much as I love VISR Mode, I hope we don't get it in Halo 4, it just wouldn't fit with the character we're used to.

The flashlight makes more sense overall. I don't see why he would have a VISR, and I hated the feature to begin with, but that's my opinion.

Like the OP stated, the flashlight implements that eerie sense of creepiness that the VISR lacks.

I hope in halo 4 there is a option to choose visr or flashlight

Magic is magical, so are shoes... Along with plastic.
Don't forget to flush the toilet, because -blam!- stinks.

I'd rather the flashlight, for gameplay reasons.

In ODST, there was no reason not to use the VISR in Mombasa streets, it looked good, but there was no point in have a regular view (only to view the scenes) but for combat it was a necessity, making it unbelievably easy to spot enemies. I'd rather the flashlight to give you a more... restricted (can't seem to find a fitting word) feeling, allowing you to admire all the scenes as we did for all previous Halo's, and place you in the shizzle.

"Two players enter a room. The better player has to wait 6 seconds since the bad player had to resort to using an invincibility button. Depending on the proximity of both players' teammates and the frosting effect, emp, 360 look-around, and player familiarity with the use of each of their Armor Abilities, the better player may die, tie with the opponent, or win."

The Flashlight is my favorite Armor Ability.

Long time listener,first time complainer.

VISR if only to help identify or highlight some new Forerunner tech/structures.There appears to be a new suit in Halo 4 anyway.

  • 07.03.2011 8:28 AM PDT

flashlight definitly...it bring backs from the classic of the first halo games and keeps it creepy during scenes with the flood...nothing could be better

VISR is cool but the flashlight... I don't know, was just more fun to use I guess. Walking down dark corridors in Halo: CE was always so great with it.

  • 07.03.2011 9:35 AM PDT

VISR wasn't part of any MJOLNIR iterations, and even though 343i can get away with some visual differences and the "hidden" thrusters, adding VISR wouldn't make sense.

Apart from that, It is interesting to see if we could get different visual enhancements in Halo 4 which the Spartans have in the books. For instance Nightvision, Thermal, IR etc.

If MS insists of putting Kinect as an optional control in every future game, including H4, I wouldn't mind using voice commands to switch views to be honest.

As for flashlight: tactically a disadvantage but from a gameplay perspective a "must" so that should always return.
