What is the "infamous Open Tray problem"?
To recap, I have two newer Xbox 360s purchased this last fall. Four or five months ago I could play Halo 2 fine on both boxes. Both read all other discs fine and are connected to the internet. As I discovered the other day, neither box will detect my Halo 2 game discs anymore (I have two, one of which is new)...it just states "open tray" as if there is nothing in there. Both game discs work fine on my original xbox.
The only thing that has changed is the spring update. Reading your helpful responses and the linked article makes me think the software update must be the culprit. Although, if it supposedly affects so few xboxs its interesting that both of mine seem effected. I'm not sure how they would handle a box exchange since one of them is the Reach edition. Although, supposedly this problem wasn't caused by the new update. Right.
edit: I've also cleared my memory cache, no go. Following the xbox trouble shooter I removed my hard drives to see if either 360 would read the game disc then, no go. Wth, over?Because of that article I wrote to MS about the reading problem and they said send it in, we'll fix it for the regular price, since the warranty had lapsed. 2 boxes down the tubes.
Also, type in 'My xbox 360 won't read disks' and see how many other people are griping. 6,000,000 hits
