Halo 2 runs on a modified Windows 2000 operating system, doesn't it?

Dude, Pimps at Sea is like Halo, going 30 knots in a harbour, being chased by clippers and Man-o-war. And the Man-o-war are firing.

No, because then they could have detailed why those improvements won't work on XP, and avoided all of the people yelling "OMG I HATE U!"

As I said, I don't care that Microsoft wants to sell more copies of Vista, I just resent them hiding it under some flimsy and transparent post-rationalization.

Have you perhaps thought they might decide to highten everything on the Halo 2 PC version? That they can only do with the Vista?

First of all, they didn't lie to your face. Unless you've visited bungie's HQ recently? Second, yeh, marketing it part of the reason and they didn't say that it wasn't part of the reason AT ALL. But they did say that it would operate better on Windows Vista. Why? Because it's the latest version. Each version is better and supports better things. You can't stick an Xbox 360 disc into an Xbox and expect it to work. The same concept goes for computers. You can't always stick the latest things in older things.

I don't get how a game can rely so much on an operating system that it simply WON'T work with anything older. An operating system is just an operating system. Don't tell me that those little quirks like DirectX and Windows [insert software name here] matter, because they shouldn't.

I miss DOS. When I was little, I felt more comfortable skipping around in Norton Commander than in Windows 3.1 when that showed up. I wish I hadn't forgotten all about that stuff... Things are too complex nowdays. If I could decide, hardware would be the only thing necessary, because it's the only thing that has REAL impact on performance.

Now excuse me while I go play Command & Conquer - the DOS version.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

... who really cares? We're lied to all the time. Every time you turn on the TV, by your definition of "lying to someones face", someone is lying to your face. And then Bungie does it and you get all pissed?

Doesn't make much sense, to me...

So, Halo 2 PC is being ported to Vista because it will be better? Halo 2 runs on a modified Windows 2000 operating system, doesn't it? So how is anyone going to be able to tell the quality difference between one compatible with XP and one compatible with Vista? I think this rationalization is a bit flimsy.

Halo 2 PC is being ported to Vista because it may help sell copied of Vista. That is the main reason, and we all know. I don't mind that though, because it makes sense. It's marketing, it's smart, it's Microsoft. That's not what I resent.

I resent being told up front that it is not the reason for the choice at all. I can respect your decision to sell te game however the -blam!- you want, it IS you game. I can't respect Bungie and Microsoft not acknowledging it though.

Respect me enough to tell me to my face, I'd do the same for you.

*Sigh* If you don't know what you are talking about, please, don't talk.
YES, the Xbox runs on a modified Windows, BUT the Xbox's configuration is considerably different from that of a normal PC, while its OS is Windows, its hardware isn't configured like your PC, the comparison you are trying to make is impossible, its like comparing a Gameboy to a Toaster, they are completely different machines.

Have you played the Halo: CE port to PC? It's God-awful! The reason is because the game was just directly ported. Windows Vista DOES help to improve a computer for gaming capability, it helps it to run games as big as the Halo 2 port will be, and 2000/XP WOULD NOT be able to handle Halo 2. It can't handle Halo: CE.

The reason that console games run so well on consoles, but no on PCs: PC's display at MUCH HIGHER resolutions. They have tighter image displays than TV's. Standard VGA is 720:480, gaming computers can routinely run up at resolutions above 2000:800. Because of the higher resolutions clearer images can be displayed on a computer, requiring more and better hardware, since consoles run things at such a low res they require less hardware, and lesser versions of it.

Now--be quiet.

It runs lIKE -blam!- because of XP, and because its a bad port. They both factor in. It could've been a better port if XP was better, and if Gearbox had worked harder. Both.

Sorry about the like thing, but things like LIEK just piss me off to no end. I'm OCD, I guess.

Like I said, Gearbox had a lot to do with it, but Windows and PC's are to blame for much of the inconsistency in framerate. Neither one is ENTIRELY at fault, but Gearbox did screw up huge time, I'll give you that.

I don't think XP was at fault at all for the framerate in Halo CE, has everyone forgotten that the game runs on Windows 98? Gearbox screwed up completely. The game offered nothing groundbreaking in the realm of graphics, sound or technology for the PC. I
've said it before, they [Gearbox] just didn't tune it right at all... What do you think one of the reasons that they decided to develop the port in-house this time, rather than passing the development to another company?
If they ported the game correctly it would've required a lot less horsepower to run acceptably.

You seem to have missed my point, Captain "computer games can run at higher resolutions" Ovbious. Besides, it was all several hours ago, not so annoyed at it anymore. Go away.

VGA is 640 x 480. By the way, Halo PC runs just fine on my machine, with an AMD 2400, and Radeon 9600 at 1024x768. I can't see the difference between the Xbox and PC, other than the resolution. If the few people who could actually tell the difference didn't go around complaining about Halo PC's port, most people wouldn't even notice.

So, Toxic's logic, we have to buy a new operating system to run this game (whose native resolution is 640x480, if I'm not mistaken), at higher resolutions?
Well -blam!-, I guess running FEAR at 1280x1024 on high quality just pales in comparison to when big bad Halo 2 comes along and eats my computer with it's 2 year old console technology.
