Subject: Halo Legends: The Package...errors?

Ok. So I'm a HUGE Halo Canon lover...but the Halo Legends episode: The Package is FULL of errors...like-it's kinda sad. And they worked with 343i on this?

1) When Chief asks what will happen if they fail, the captain states they will have no choice but to "Annihilate the Covenant fleet, the Package, and your entire team." This makes ABSOLUTELY no sense. How does a single UNSC ONI Prowler annihilate an entire Covenant fleet, complete with multiple CCS Battlecruisers AND a Flagship? According to First Strike, Prowlers just drop Nuclear Mines before battles and stuff. How does a single Prowler do what he says they will do?

2) The Booster Frames. Some of the top UNSC officials even commented(in Ghosts of Onyx) that the cost of creating Mjolnir armor could fund an entire battle group. Also, the only reason the UNSC really loses is because they get destroyed in space. If a UNSC MAC gun can't even destroy some Covenant ships, how do 5 single X-Wing fighter type, single manned ships destroy entire ships? Like there are more weapons on those damn things than in an entire UNSC Battle Group. Did you SEE those MAC guns on them?

3) When Solomon thinks he has a reading and decides to go in alone. Kelly tells him to wait and he ignores her. This is incredibly wrong, as Spartans were trained with the most rigorous military discipline. Disobeying orders or a commanding officer is STRICTLY something Spartans do not do.

4) The Booster Frames shoot bullets. In space. Bullets can't shoot in space. (At least I think...)

5) The Package itself. Is a human. The Covenant take NO prisoners, which means they would have never captured Dr.Halsey, they would have just killed her. Also, I don't think Halsey was ever off of the planet Reach except for when she went to meet the Spartans when they were kids(not entirely sure, but I think this is true). Therefore, it isn't possible for her to even encounter the Covenant personally until Reach, which happens long after this episode. And also, there is no reason for the Covenant to keep her because aside from "Demons", they don't know of any specific humans, and, supposedly, some can't even tell human genders apart.

Also, Dr.Halsey is younger than Chief in this episode. Possibly an artistic choice, but one that makes ABSOLUTELY no sense. I'll let you figure this one out.

6) The crew of the Flagship. The crew is made up of both Brutes and Elites. This never happens on a Covenant ship as both races hate each other. Elites would never let Brute savages onto their ship for multiple reasons, and we all know what they are. Brutes have their own ships(hardly, but still), so there would be no Brutes to kill.

Also, some of the Grunts have Plasma Rifles. Umm...

Also, the Major's two Elite comrades both have swords, but their armor is that of a Minor. Owning a Plasma Sword shows you have achieved a high rank, are incredibly skilled and have lots of honor, something Elite Minor's don't have. They would have Plasma Pistols, probably, but not swords. The Major? Yes. Minors? No.

7) The Major's sword deflects an entire clip of AR bullets. Plasma isn't a solid object, it can't deflect solid bullets. Maybe the handle could, but then the Major's hand would have gotten shot and you would have seen his shields flare.

8) There is a 117 clearly on the front of his armor...he never had that. The whole 117 thing is the # he was in the identification process-he was 117/150. Many people didn't even use the 117 when talking to/about him, except for his CO's. Like-they would use Sierra 117, but otherwise, it was Master Chief, or John.

Just...a few things I noticed XD

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

I hated the Package. Out of all the Halo: Legends episodes, I think it was right up there as one of the worst.

1) It absolutely doesn't. That line was for "dramatic effect," but really just came off as cheesy. A Spartan would know that if they failed in their mission, they would likely have to self-destruct their MJOLNIR suits, destroying as much as possible without compromising the UNSC.

2) While very gimmicky, I think the Booster Frames were not the worst. Their gauss cannons were highly overpowered, though, I will agree with that. I think that's just your typical Anime/"Michael Bay" effect of Good Guys + Big gun = Cool.

3) Agreed. Also, the fact that Solomon had a turkey-neck really bothered me. His hair (dreadlocks?) as well as Kelly's and Freds were completely out of regulation. For that matter, so was Cal's.

4) Well... So do the Sabres. Our hands are somewhat tied here. But the LAAG gun on the back was extremely lame. Those kind of bullets just seemed stupid, at least the Sabre's cannons seem like they're rapid-firing off tank rounds.

5) Halsey's appearance was also hideous. The Cortana references made me want to puke, and I would completely agree that her capture doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Then again, Anders was captured, but only because she was observed as "knowing" how to activate Forerunner tech.

6) Indeed so. I think the creator just wanted to throw as many races into the mix as he could. I still laugh every time he said he was a "Legendary player" and was such a huge fan of the games, yet he basically s**t all over the canon.

The Major was also clearly supposed to be Thel 'Vadamee. 343 put a bandaid on it by naming him Thel 'Lodamee, but it's stated that his only options for loosing one battle (lame) was death or Arbiter. I hated how they painted Thel as a coward, and that is not how an Arbiter is made.

7) Yeah, that was hideously lame. I believe the sword could have done something against the bullets, but not the entire clip; not with blades that narrow.

8) I think that was mainly just so people would know he was the Master Chief - as though it wasn't painfully obvious. What I didn't like is that they were wearing what appeared to be Mark VI. They would be wearing Mark IV, and to best knowledge it looked nothing like that. There certainly wasn't MJOLNIR Mk VI [EVA] at that point in time... At least, I'm fairly certain there wasn't.

  • 06.13.2011 11:07 PM PDT

If you can read this, that means I'm not a Shaolin monk...

yet.

8) How can you know? Have you seen his Mk. IV?

  • 06.13.2011 11:34 PM PDT

No, but we HAVE seen Mk V, and we HAVE seen Mk VI, so unless Halsey decided the Mk VI was to have a "throwback" feel to the Mk IV, it would look different. Also, one other thing I noticed. Mk IV(the armor they would be wearing) didn't have shields, and yet it shows, in Cheif's visor, that he has shields.

We've seen the standard MJOLNIR Mk IV through Halo Wars and to a lesser extend The Babysitter. They look similar to the Mk V, but not so much like the Mk VI. The Package has Mk VI because it was "cool."

What's more, the EVA worn by Kelly was a variant on the Mark VI, not the Mark IV or V. The Package takes place in roughly 2544, a full 8 years before the Mk VI was developed.

bullet can be shot in space, the russians confirmed this in the 60's

gunpowder is self oxidising.

also, while all legends except odd man out can be considered canon, artistic license was taken by the artist. the booster frames, and the 117 imprint are one such artistic license.

Doesn't matter. The MJOLNIR Mk IV that we saw in Halo Wars was the standard Mk IV appearance. That is what it looked like all across the board, with the exception of specialized teams like Grey Team.

May I ask what scene showed the booster frames destroying a ship (As in one of the CSS class Battlecruisers.

They don't "destroy" it, but a gauss cannon, even in those numbers (though what were there, 3?) should not be able to blow a hole in a Covenant CCS Battlecruiser hulls. It just should not be possible.

  • 06.14.2011 1:53 AM PDT

I think that The Package was mostly focused on giving the more casual and wider audience a really appealing show. Obviously, it was very unrealistic, and was likely made with the thought of cool graphics and big explosions in mind, and the canon somewhat ignored.

I'm definitely not saying I didn't like it. I'm a canon fanatic; this might not be along the proper lines of the Halo universe, but it's still cool nonetheless.

They didnt destroy the hull. they emped the energy shields in one of the loading bays, the missiles wreaked havok inside. And btw the covenant have captured many humans. Jonhson in halo 3, and they held Ackerson capture for a while, before they finaly killed him.

I respect your opinion, I'm probably just going to disagree with it.

Do you know what's sad? Look at the package, and then look at the Halo 4 trailer.

Also, just want to clear something up - number 4 isn't quite accurate. Bullets still work fine in space, as the charge in the casing has its own oxidant and doesn't require an atmosphere.
However, being in a vacuum, all liquid lubrication on the weapon would boil off, meaning you are more likely to jam and have other errors of that sort.
The other issue is that air cooled weapons would probably overheat much more quickly, for obvious reasons.

Anyway, continue :)

You mean 343i doesn't like continuity? Who knew...

  • 06.14.2011 3:39 AM PDT

KIWIZ RULE THE WORLD!

Its just that nobody knows it yet...

Bullets work in space.

Not modern day bullets because most types need O2 to explode (there apparently is a sort that will work since O2 is added into the gunpowder or something). But to give u an example of an explosive that will work in space is C4 because it does not need O2 to start the explosive reaction just an electrical charge.

Learn to accept people interest.

Dont consider Halo Legend part of the canon they do alot of -blam!- wrong

  • 06.14.2011 4:09 AM PDT

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Artistic liberties are plentiful in Halo Legends.
The only canon in Halo Legends that I, myself would consider canon is origins and maybe the duel.

"Time was your ally human. But now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners....have returned. And this tomb... is now yours". - The Didact

1)Protoype nova bomb maybe? Some ONI super weapon? We are talking about an organisation who have the balls to use the flood for their own purposes, sneak into deep covie lines and secretly excavate Forerunner artifacts in front of the UNSC in secret...

2)Frankie explained that:

The canon is that these are weapons designed exactly for this mission and they're literally cobbled together from bits of other equipment and missile and weapon systems.

3)Oh they do,i see you have forgotten how:

-Kurt ignored the command of an ONI AI on Onyx

-John was ordered to leave the last spartans behind in that forest missions as kids but ignored those orders and took them all with him

Hell there were many other instances where spartans didn't acted like true spartans
*points to Jorge*

4)Read the previous Nylund books then come back at me.

5)*sigh*
Read ghosts of onyx where Halsey personally witnessed the death of Sheila by Lodamee on Miridem, which led to the events of the package.Covenant take prisoners who are important like Anders for activating a fleet.

6)Let's not forget High Charity and the Unyielding hierophant where there were both Brutes and Elites.

So what if they used plasma rifles?

7)Covenant use something different and more dangerous then plasma,i'll search for the quote...

8)Maybe because he had different armor on?

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

1. Agreed, but I think it's just an oversight.

5. Thel Lodamee killed Sheila who was protecting Halsey, so the Covenant figured she must be someone of importance and should be kept alive. It's happened before (Halo CE)

That's all I can explain.

  • 06.14.2011 7:26 AM PDT

Walk softly, and carry a big midget.

1) Maybe they placed a bunch of nuclear mines there before the Covenant arrived.

2) The Booster Frames are basicly jets/rockets/thrusers strapped to a big pile of weapons and a seat stuck on top. And they didn't destroy any ships, the only ships they destroyed are the Seraphs.

3)Not all Spartans are the same, Emile for example. He carved a skull into his visor. I havn't seen a Spartan do that before. Also, where does it say that Kelly was a higher rank than him? Or were you talking about the Chief?

4)Bullets can easily be fired in space if there is some sort of counter force to stop you from flying backwards eg. In Ghosts of Onyx (Or was it the Fall of Reach?) the Spartans wear thruster packs which are linked up to thier weapons. When they fired the weapons the thrusters would stop them from flying away.

5) The Covenant have taken prisoners before. Halo CE and Halo Uprising. Maybe they knew that Halsey knew something about the Forerunners and they were going to interogate her.

6)Not sure about this one... maybe the Prophets ordered them to be on the ship? I'm not sure...

7) Energy Swords are weapons just like any other. Minors have been see wielding Energy Swords quite a few times in Halo 2.

For Example.

Same with Grunts and thier Plasma Rifles. You see them a few times throughout the games.

8) It's not the same suit as we see in the other games, that's why we've never seen it. It's probably some kind of EVA armour or something.

Okay fellas, on the topic of #3, it's one thing for a Spartan to be unique or a little defiant, it's another to say "Hey! Here's a beacon, I'm going to charge in alone and check it out!" I mean, what Kurt did? No one likes ONI. What Solomon did? Straight stupid. A Spartan doesn't do stupid.

I was a little like what the heck!? I looked at the review or whatever and it said that that was suppose to be Dr. Halsey in her 50's!!!!! They made her look like she is a teenager.
