The halo pc conversion has been a big hit since the day it hit the shelves. But time has passed and the game still stands strong...Why? What makes this game so much more enduring then the rest. Many other game makers have given up online support for their games or ditched one version for the new more shiny sequel. But HPC has managed to stick around even though the majority of the fans here think its high time for the next installment. Then what draws you back to halo for the pc everyday? Do you think that bungie should continue supporting hpc even after the release of halo2pc?

Things that I believe helped halo endure...

-the community! (from the people on these forums to the people that make maps for CE)
-the price($20.00)
-the franchise...(When I first began playing halo I was in a clan and I played alot but I did not own an xbox. When the game came out on the pc I had to get it!)

Tell me what you think...

An interesting idea. Is it possible that once H2PC is up and running, Bungie might see if it can make a couple tweaks to HPC? It might be a good marketing technique, I mean, lots of people who have never played HPC will go out and buy H2PC, so if Bungie makes a couple slight alterations to the first one that people here have wanted for a long time, it might increase the interest in buying the first game to see what started the Halo franchise! I would like that a lot...

It would make sense that in order to build hype and anticipation they may work in some new aspects of the next game in order to "beta" test their ideas. If the game is going to be released for the Vista operating system which i not out yet, then how could they release a beta. That has been the biggest and most widly excepted way of testing software nowadays.
If they do tweak HPC what would they do to it? And would they ask us first?

It's not going to happen, but a HPC graphical tweak to optimize it to run better would always be nice.

Though, other than that I don't see much in the realm of tweaks they could do. Clean the network code up? Maybe add some H2 multiplayer options and maps (offically, not the Halo2CE stuff.)

But see I dont think that the h2 CE options are that bad. They look great and run wonderfuly on my computer. And as far as the net code yes work on that, but I dont realy have a problem with that either...Like i say all the time it all depends on the specs of your computer. Maybe an update of the gametypes would be nice, and maybe adding someweapons. That would be pretty cool and maybe a mappack. These are of course just ideas being thrown out there so no one realy expects it to happen.

Yeah, I agree the H2CE maps aren't bad at all. But imagine an offically released set by Bungie, along with a nice graphical upgrade? That'd be pretty nice.

Okay Honestly i think the main reason Halo pc is still alive today is because alot of people dont have the money to go get an xbox or xbox live. I got both and getting a 360 once i can find one lol, but I also have halo for pc and despite all the lag and tkers the game is a one of a kind. The story line, the wepons, the big explosions, ive never played another game that has the things that halo has. Well games like unreal and all that are a little like this but you dont get the same feel you do when you noob rush 6 people with a battle rifle or shotgun and manage to kill all of them.

Why is it still alive?

To put it simple: Despite the lag and the TK'ers issues, it's still the best online FPS experience I've had... ever. And if I think it is, there has to be other people who think the same.

It's very easy to play and there isn't a lot to it. It's pretty much straight forward. It also is a great multiplayer experience, best I've ever had.

Reason one: The best campaign story. Cortana and the cutscenes weave a tale and fill you in on what has happened and what is happening. And then the Flood bomb they drop on was the best twist in plot I have even seen. They built it up with suttle clues that something wasn't right. Then the helmet recorder cut scene and then all hell breaks loose. My heart was pounding when I finished that room and I turnede the PC off to collect myself.

Reason Two: Look at my signature. It's a visually beautiful game with an amazing environment to explore. They really went the extra step fleshing out the Halo world.

Reason Three: Simple but challenging multiplayer. Not to many controls or moves to learn. Descent weapon balance, except for the Fuel rod being over-powered and the other covenent weapons not being equal to the human counterparts. The lag is frustrating but forces you to learn and develop skills. Good maps.
