sure the armour has weak-spots, but against a parasite? give them horrible, sharp claws and stuff then fair enough but not in the Flood current form, its just like a bad joke! not that I don't like the 'concept' of the Flood, but the way they act, the way they attack, dunno just feels pointless and not disturbing. look at it this way, on Halo III the Chief walked through the Flood without much trouble, hell on a number of occasions I had fun messing them about, gunning them down in droves with the humble battle rifle, big combat forms taken down by a single burst from range! ten combat forms advancing at the same time, not a problem, same result! single fragmentation grenade equals...well how many Flood can you fit around a grenade? and I am expected to believe that these 'critters' defeated the Forerunner when I can quite happily make fun of them as a mere bloke in a 'flawed' suit?
so its not the concept that I dislike, it is the implementation of the concept because its just not 'fearful' or threatening, even the level going to retrieve Cortana, surrounded by countless Flood, felt moderately threatened at best! put me in that same situation in a Starcraft FPS and I would be 'quite uneasy' at that point for a number of reasons, the speed at which the Zerg would reach me, how vicious they are and how many there are! keep getting people say 'obviously you just didn't read the book' or whatever like that, or 'the armour has weak spots' and so on, the point is the Flood as an enemy to face in a game are terrible and I cannot believe that beings like the Forerunner could ever, in a million years be taken down by the what I am facing on the Cortana level, which ruins the whole feel of them even more...!
before someone points out that 'sometimes' the Flood run at you, that again is not worrying because they mindlessly run at you, that is all just at you, could be holding a planet destroying cannon and they'd still run at you! there is no cunning, no deception, no attempt to avoid fire, nothing, just like zombies! and this is coming from someone who has read all the books cover to cover, played all the games start to end and so on, still doesn't stop me feeling as though Bungie failed miserably with making the Flood a 'horrible' and ancient evil. would recommend they have a look at the work Blizzard have done with Starcraft and the Tyranids in Warhammer 40,000 to get an idea of what a horrific, parasitic horde should be like and stop making me fight zombies with dodgy arms! Halo: Reach is the best Halo game, know why, no Flood! because the Flood are just irritating rather than an enemy, feel like I have to fight Elites and such on Reach, but on Halo III fighting Flood is just computer generated alien Zombieland, pest control!
