Subject: The original Halo: Combat Evolved...

To everyone in the community, this is directed towards the TRUE veterans of Halo, not the whiny prepubecent little kids that can beat Halo 3 and call themselves veterans. The ONLY way you are a true veteran is if you played Halo: CE FIRST, beat the solo Campaign on Legendary, and can still go back to the game ten years later, run through the story on Legendary, and still get just as much enjoyment as you did ten years ago.

Halo: CE is, was, and forever will be the BEST Halo game in the franchise. Halo: CE is the only game of the series that truly deserves the respect of die hard fans. As for everyone else, no one said you had to play CE, or even buy the remake coming out in November. But don't ruin the experience for everyone else with your b1tching.

Never give up, never surrender!

I played Halo:CE first back in 2004 right before Halo 2 was released, and have played it countless times aswell. I'm only halfway through Legendary though.

Would I still count as a Veteran ?

  • 06.14.2011 1:40 PM PDT

In that case, yes, because you didn't start off with H3 or Reach. From literally everyone I've talked to comparing the games, Halo: CE is the only game you got a challenge out of, the only game you had to try not to die in. The games got easier to suck in more players to result in a bigger fanbase and more profit, which is why on Live you see all these -blam!- 10 and 11 year old little kids that can barely hold the controller and ruin the game for whoever is stuck on their team.

I am so gonna push the button for "Classic Mode" with the Anniversary release. You?

  • 06.14.2011 2:17 PM PDT

I'll probably go back and forth as I play through to see the new changes. I was going to play through CEA the first time with the new graphics, but I haven't made a final decision yet. I'm super stoked we can play CE with achievements now.

What a waste....

I hope they keep the banshee sounds :D

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

So..unless you think CE is the best you're not a veteran?

No, I'm saying you can't come in halfway through the entire series and call yourself a veteran because you can beat one of the newer games on b1tch normal mode. That isn't what it means to be a veteran.

On top of that, most real veterans are at least 20 now, depending on how old you were when the game came out in 2001. Not these little kids you hear when you play on Xbox live who have probably never even played Combat Evolved, let alone beat it on Legendary.

Recon..??

I mustve played this game 100 time when I got it. I still play it, and love it today.

We all do AngelForge, we all do.

I even play the Library over and over again. Its difficult but far from impossible, fun, and keeps you in shape.

join KOTOR

In 2001, gaming changed forever. The time of Halo.

I played Halo CE, but I have never beat it on Legendary. Also, I played it before the other Halos.

I could never beat Halo 2 on Legendary.

Sounds to me like you just may need a better teammate, or a better teacher to help you do that. Its not bad if you can't beat it on Legendary, so long as you keep trying.

After Combat Evolved, I played and beat Halo 2, 3, ODST, and Reach all on a straight run through from beginning to end on Legendary. I just learned how to adapt and play better.

If you need tips, feel free to ask.

This thread is sad.

You need a weapon?....You can find your own......

I consider myself a veteran....although, I started with Halo 2 in 2005. Then, after beating Halo 2 on Legendary several times, I played through Halo: Combat Evolved on Heroic (The Library was just too freaking hard for a little kid). Now, I'm going to college next year and I'm working on beating Halo: Combat Evolved on Legendary and I am loving every bit of it!! I'm also playing Halo 1 through 3 this summer on co-op with my girlfriend. I have to say that as of late, I have become even more infatuated with the Halo franchise.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

I remember playing Halo: CE in 2004 with my friend Jonathan on his Xbox Original. Co-Op Campaign FTW.

Amen. Halo: CEA on co-op will be great.

Suck it Red!

I first played Halo CE in 2004 or 2005 before I got Halo 2...Thought it was really fun then and still do. I'm currently playing through it on Heroic because Legendary would take me to long and too many broken controllers lol. I think this game would be perfect if it only had the assault rifle from Halo 3 in it.

Seriously, Halo 3's AR? Halo: CE's AR was a bullet hose with a badass 60 round clip that cut through everything. Legendary isn't as hard as you think, just don't rush into every battle, guns blazing like you would in Halo 3 or Reach. In Combat Evolved, you have to take your time and outsmart the AI. Just be two steps ahead of your enemies and you will fly through the campaign on Legendary without even dying.

Yes, I AM just that awesome.

Live Long and Consume Banana Oil, ya' Spoony Bards!

I agree that Halo: Combat Evolved is the defacto Halo game, and I have beaten the game on Legendary and then gone back to play again. I even once managed to play the entire campaign without dying, but it took almost a month to do, what with being extremely careful and cautious enough to make a slug seem fast. Still, there's no need to complain about any of the games in the series, as they all have their pros and cons. When the remake is released in November, I will buy it, and no matter what happens, I will play it with as much heart as I do for the original version of the game.

Even then, if you happen to not like the newer graphics and other things, you can just hit the back button and play through Combat Evolved just like the original, only with achievements. =D

-Played CE in December of 2001 (1 month after release)
-Played CE multiplayer first
-Beat on Legendary with freinds then alone

Guess I'm a super veteran.

  • 06.14.2011 6:22 PM PDT

I played halo 2 first, i view myself as a veteran. I played it when i was mature enough to make a judgement about a game rather than still being a 9 year old incapable of understanding gameplay mechanics and criticizing all who are old enough to realize what is flawed.
