Subject: Is Halo 4 an appropriate title?

To those who much is given; much is lost.

I was busy surfing the web and watching Halo 4 and Halo: CE Anniversary when Cortana said "Halo, it's finished." and Master Chief responded saying "No, it's just getting started."

I then thought, if Halo (The rings and the ark,) are finished, and destroyed, then what must Halo 4 be about? Obviously it can't be about the Halo ring any longer. So why is it titled "Halo" 4? I know they probably named it this to make it as a sequel to Halo 3... but they said during the E3 press conference that this is a whole new trilogy, so why is it named Halo? The Halo is finished.

Galactus is God

um.. the halos still exist and can still be created..
I'm not saying that's what the problem is going to be later on but it still can be.

Alright! What about the Ark though? The flood killed it right? And I sorta didn't exactly play through each Halo and follow the story, so correct me! But if there are still rings, they must be using them in the future if 343i are keeping the name of Halo for their new game.

Halo 4 doesn't sound right to me. It should be called Halo *insert word relating to the plot here.*

waypoint confirmed the ark being destroyed by fires months ago. and halo's are getting old, time to move onto shield worlds and other constructs.

Yea, and they probably are moving on, so should they name the new trilogy the whatever the new shield worlds will be and whatever other constructs?

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

Changing the main title of the series wold kill brand awareness.

  • 06.14.2011 2:07 PM PDT

This is Sparta!!! eh I mean Reach ^^

First of all the majority of halo rings are still
Throughout the universe and thete are
shield worlds too. Cortana said hslo, it finished
Refers to the halo installation 04 that was destroyed
at the end of halo ce.
halo4 is definetly an appropriate title as it is a direct
Sequel to halo3 and obviously we will find out
More about the forerunners. Now the biggest question
is will we ever see covenants in the new halo trilogy
or the flood again?

Scandinavian Master Race!

The name Halo 4 will pull in more sales than Halo blablabla.

  • 06.14.2011 2:12 PM PDT

It retains the name Halo because it is still part of the great series, Halo is the name of the series...it's much like Legend of Zelda series, several of the game do not even have Zelda in them, yet they all bear her name because that's the name of the series. Every game in the Halo series will have "Halo" in their title because that is the name of the series, just like every piece of Star Wars media will have "Star Wars" somewhere in the title.

And there still are Halo's out there.

@Grey101, would you mind linking the article/video it says the Ark was destroyed in, 'cause that's news to me, I always thought it was just heavily damaged.

As already mentioned, there are still more Halos, also Halo 4 is a good title in the sense that it makes it clear that it will continue the story from where Halo 3 left. However, I don't like how the "4" looks, the font doesn't feel right.

That's pretty much my main problem with it the 4 just doesn't fit, it's like someone shopped it on a Halo 3 logo, thet color is even different. I also checked it in a Halo 3 font I have installed in Word and the 4 is different and much better IMO.

@Grey101, would you mind linking the article/video it says the Ark was destroyed in, 'cause that's news to me, I always thought it was just heavily damaged.

Guilty Spark said that firing the ring would destroy the Ark. Going by Cryptum, if a Halo ring can destroy precursor technology than I think it's safe to assume it would be able to destroy a Forerunner structure, even one as massive as the Ark. To be fair though, we never saw the final condition of the Ark so unless it is stated somewhere officially we can't know for sure.

  • 06.14.2011 3:42 PM PDT

That quote is from the end of Halo CE when Cortana and Chief escape Halo 04. Cortana had no knowledge of other halo's or the arc at the time because Guilty Spark was only given information on his installation and nothing else.

  • 06.14.2011 3:45 PM PDT

Well the full title is Halo 4: The $earch for More Money...

Well Precursor technology is different from Forerunner technology, I believe Precursor tech is somehow neurologicaly based or something similar, which is why it could be destroyed by the firing of a Halo, nothing else ever could do any damage to it IIRC. I think Spark was worried about some sort of malfunction harming the Ark because of Alpha Halo's incomplete status. The reason it did any harm at all to the Ark I believe was because of its self-destruction, but that's just me. I don't think it could harm it normally if it was completed, but then we don't really know how the firing of a Halo Ring works...

I was more asking Grey to source what he was saying, because I've seen several people saying that it was said somewhere that the Ark was destroyed.

Why is Halo Reach called Halo Reach? It's just to signify that it's in the same setting as the other Halo games. Halo Reach had nothing to do with the Halos, it was just a huge invasion. Halo 4 atleast has something to do with the creators of the Halos most likely. For all we know, you might end up on another Halo throughout the story.

Fourth game in the main series. Fourth game with the Chief. Yeah, Halo 4.

Whata you want to do? Give it a silly subtitle?

Halo: the Revelations
Halo: Requiem
Halo: *planet it takes place on*
Halo: Full Circle?

Puh-lease.

  • 06.14.2011 5:29 PM PDT

I think when Cortana said "Halo... It's finished" she was referring to the series. Or maybe the first trilogy (Halo: CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3). If it were the series, it would make sense when MC said, "No, this is just the beginning". Therefore saying that Halo will continue it's creation of games. Nobody said Cortana was referring to the Halo's ingame.

That is true...but if they changed the name, then it would just seem weird.Kinda like Halo:Reach,Halo had nothing to do with Reach, but its just in the Halo universe.I think Halo 4 is a correct name for the series.

2 of the 8 rings were destroyed. When I say 8, I am including the second Alpha Halo.

I was about to flame you for saying 8 not 7...

To OP: It is called Halo because it is set in the Halo universe, what else would they call it?

There are other elements to Halo other than the Halo rings...
