I just finished watching it and was curious as to how much of it is considered canon?

  • 06.14.2011 3:02 PM PDT

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Everything but Odd One Out is considered canon, for obvious reasons.

Do not waste your tears, I was not born to watch the world grow dim. Life is not measured in years, but by the deeds of men.

We should know better, because we are better.

You should also note that large parts are artistic licensing, such as Hasley's appearance in the Package.

Thereason I asked is the planet from the opening segment is the exact same one from the Halo 3 legendary ending. Even the same angle.

No it's not. The planet in Origins has clear signs of oceans, the glyph is completely different and there's only 1 on the face of the planet.

Wow, you pay close attention. But they are very similar. Both clearly Forerunner.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Is anybody else experiencing Deja Vu?

Everything except for Odd One Out.

No they aren't

ending planet is fully metallic and orbits a blue star and doesn't have a moon.

The one in orgins is the exact opposite of all of that.

you just want them to be the same therefore they are the same to you.

  • 06.14.2011 3:33 PM PDT

Yes, they're all canon except for Odd One Out. Some of the stuff is artistic license, such as Halsey's appearance in "The Homecoming" and "The Package", and some things may or may not be artistic license such as the appearance of the female Elite in "The Duel".

What did you think of the movie(s) overall?

  • 06.14.2011 5:10 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Overall yes, but there are parts of it which break canon. So the series is, the parts which are not canon are not canon.

  • 06.14.2011 5:13 PM PDT

Odd One Out isn't, and I'm not sure about The Duel. The story's good, but I don't think that Sangheili wear samurai armor.

  • 06.14.2011 5:21 PM PDT

My name is Legion, for we are many.

Every episode except Odd One Out are completely canon (excuse their artistic licenses)

I agree, with one exception. Origins I and II were pretty phenomenal. The whole history of the Halo universe wrapped up in half an hour with some really cool visual effects.

Besides that, I'm not a big anime fan.

I don't really think Harka (is that the evil Elite's name?) looked too much like a Samurai, and even then it would just be artistic license, they all have some of that going on in them.

Sangheili culture has always been similar to Feudal Japan, there's nothing t discredit that at all so the way Sanghelios and Harka are portrayed is 110% accurate.

Mhm, there's a reason they've been called Space Samurai. And people have been calling them that before Legends came out (I know I did at least). The only thing I really consider possibly iffy is the appearance of Han.

If you can read this, that means I'm not a Shaolin monk...

yet.

Fal's wife? Yeah, I'd say her appearance was given artistic liberty in order to support the feeling of pity the audience towards her character when she's killed and link that to feel empathy towards Fal.

Yeah, Fal's wife. I agree, I think that was also why they had most of the character hold their mandibles together into a more human looking mouth, that's what I heard anyway.

Personally I think the closed mandibles thing is something they do around family and friends. I'm not gonna lie, Sangheili look pretty menacing when you see their maw and sharp teeth, it's like I wouldn't sit in my living room bearing my teeth at my family. :P

Knew we'd get an idiot going "It's stupid because Japanese made it!"

Edit: Did you know Manga means... comic? (I believe.) So there isn't really any difference.
