Subject: The Halo PC/CE Graphical Enhancement Guide (and other tweaks).

I used that shader patch for about 2 campaign missions then got sick of it. The assault rifle is really over shiney and it got annoying when I switched to CE.
Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Anyway, are you using -use21? I really don't see any difference between 20 and 21, I wonder if there is any
way to actually see the difference. Ill try runing a benckmark when I get home. I still get like 200/300 frames with all these tweaks enabled!

EDIT: No frame difference at all, i'd like clarification on -use21 if anyone has any.

Here's something you might be interested in. It's a fix for the shaders that were messed up in the process of porting Halo: Combat Evolved (The most noticeable being the missing shiny aspect of the Assault Rifle)

THANK YOU! I used this mod years ago, never could find it again, Fixes a lot of the missing shaders that were in the xbox game. I like shiny, reminds me of when i first got halo for xbox.

You're very welcome :D

@Zetren Yeah, it's not for everybody, just something that makes it match the way it was meant to be. I can understand people not like the flashyness of it.

On the note of a difference between 21 and 20, I can't see much. It might be in some miscellaneous objects somewhere in the game, but overall no big differences.

There is one thing that I need clarification and information on.

Does anyone on this forum use supersampling on their halo? If so, how did you apply it? Albeit, does it even exist?

I know that this isn't exactly vanilla, but does definitely improve the graphics. Everything essentially keeps all its prior look, but, in an enhanced way. Only bad thing is that it hasn't come out. Really looking forward to it.

Again, sorry, I know this is about enhancing vanilla Halo PC, but, I thought I could share for the people who would be interested.

Fantastic mod. As long as it only imporves texture resolution, I'm all in. Please, any post sugestions you wan't, I don't mind :)

I agree with the fixes that you suggested in your post and I don't know how anyone could play the game without them. That being said, there are a couple that I use that help the game considerably.

I noticed someone posted the restored shaders for the bitmaps that were not included in the pc title. This enables the shine on the assault rifle, flag poles and halo ring as well as the red pulsating glow on the med packs.

Another great one that fixes ALL the screen aspect ratio and FOV problems is the Yelo Battery plug in. This makes the HUD and reticule properly fixed on the screen so it does not appear stretched. Additionally you can also change the position of your weapon on the screen. For example if you would prefer the pistol to appear on the far left side of the screen as opposed to the default center position, you are able to do that. FOV and additional HUD settings such as removing the HUD are also available with the plug in.

But there's one catch to the Yelo plugin. It only works on version 1.07 which is impossible to use without the Version Changer plugin. But in order to use this properly with the Yelo plugin, you must have a halo.exe file that is already at version 1.07. The game MUST be at 1.07 or else this will not work. The version changer now tricks the game into believing it's running 1.09 so you can play online.

If anyone is interested in a step-by-step instruction I can post one with download links and pictures.

The FOV changer I already posted does most of what Yelo does.

Also, I don't want to be missing out on two whole patches just for a tool which promotes hacking to be honest :)

Halo looks at lot better than i expected when running at true 1920 x 1080 @ 90 FOV. This guide really helped. Appreciate it Zetren, hopefully there will be more added to this.

Read the past comments, this guide was loosely made for improving vanilla halo only.

When I get access to my PC I'll put up mods/maps designed to improve graphics only, in another section.

Whenever I startup the WidescreenFixer and Halo PC, it always says "yes" for the "Game Running" part, but unrecognizable version. I am 100% sure I am running v1.09...

Yes, you need to dump the entire folder contents into your halo folder. Then make a shortcut to widescreen fixer.exe on your desktop. finaly, run the shortcut first then run Halo

Make sure to set Update to 1 Millisecond in settings!!

Your doing it wrong then, everyone else has got it working. Look back at my guide and the link.

Hey my friend that just got Halo PC is having some problems with Skys The Limit. He can start it just fine, but when he presses one of the hotkeys the game crashes with the typical "gathering exception data" thing. I had him dump all of the files from the download of it right into his Halo Custom Edition folder.

It works perfectly fine for me.

That happened to me the first time too, It seems to crash for everyone first time. Check back with him to see if it's working since

@InSaNe DrIvE

Very pretty, I'll give it a go and report back

EDIT: It's Halo PC only, very disappointing. Remember, unless any mod/tweak is compatible with BOTH PC/CE, then it's not going to be on the guide. Sorry man.

Would it not be possible to organise tweaks under PC, CE and both? I understand if this is time consuming or too much trouble but it may be easier to do.

I want it to be version friendly, that's the whole purpose of this guide, I find it very annoying and stupid to say the least when devs only release mods for a specific version. If you want to orginise version specific mods under categories like you said above, be my guest, I'll put them up.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I can think of two tips here. One, any optimisation routines for trilinear and anisotropic texture filtering can be turned off for even better quality (and slower performance).

The other thing is that "shiny everything" tweak. For NVIDIA, you can add the line "DisableAlphaRenderTargets" under the one that says:

Vendor = 0x10de "nVidia"

For ATI, or anyone using the "camo fix", it would instead go under this line:

Vendor = 0x1002 "ATI"

This makes the game complain when you start it again, but now everything reflective or bumpy should be shiny all the time, not just when light sources are on them. The other side effect is no blur when you use the pistol scope.
