Please find me the quote where Bungie said that the games 'sometimes' aren't canon.

WAIT, wtf are you guys talking about. DID YOU EVEN SEE THE HALO 3 ENDING?! It was much more than a god dam laser through his chest (heart, lungs etc.) The only reason he survived the flood that one time, was due to plasma grenade radiation.

THERES AN ELITE IN MY TURRET!

He was sent out....with a bang

A dam big bang I might say. If you don't remember, let me recite it for you. Arby n the Chief make it to the frigate "Forward Unto Dawn" and the frigate seems to snap. However, Chief manages to survive. Pulling himself from the strong gravitational pull and large mass of the COLLAPSING ring that just FIRED prematurely. So, if Johnson could survive a blast through the chest, a fall for what seems like a very long drop, comes back to life (watched him die?), survive the collapsing ring and its life crushing gravitational force, then yes.

"I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I aim with my eye.
I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mind.
I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my heart."

Well has anyone seen the halo 1 legendary ending?Johnson survived that halo explosion. So why not?

That was an ending for laughs. It didn't actually happen in the plot of the game. It was a joke ending.

sorry but when chief activated halo johnson's body was blown up with halo and the arc

did you not read what i just wrote, and if you didnt play halo CE he blew that halo up as well and he made it out of that in a pelican, clearly you have not read the books, or played the first halo

Johnson escaped before he broke it into pieces. This time he was already dead and the whole thing blew up.

Though technically we watched Johnson die in CE during 343 Guilty Spark but he wasn't really dead.

You see, there were experiments that involved cloning Johnson back on Reach. All of the clones were kept inside a secret contained room on the Pillar of Autumn. These clones found their escape while the Pillar of Autumn was in battle with the Covenant before crashing. Those individual Johnsons found platoons believing they were the real Johnson and took off in escape pods to Halo's surface. It was a secret program being run by the UNSC at the time so Sgt. Johnson was ordered to stay quiet about it. In reality he was still on Earth doing other various secret missions.

All the clones were wiped at the end of Halo: Combat Evolved, sorry, the one Guilty Spark killed was the real Johnson :(

(That is my completely made up story to explain how Johnson survived on from Halo: Combat Evolved and why when asked about it he says it's classified :P)

@ OP
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA. It's funny how seriously you take this and how mad you are getting at us. He's dead. It would be lame as hell if he made a comeback. He died for the purpose of plot and storytelling, and it wouldn't make any sense if he survived.
He had a hole blown through his chest, he was crushed, then he fell a long distance, then exploded. He's dead. Besides, he wouldn't find Cheif in the middle of space. That wouldn't make any sense.

But doctor, you forgot about the Halo 3 Johnson clones! :o

The Johnson killed by Spark was a clone. Notice he's not wearing his UNSC cap and he doesn't have his trademark cigar! The real Johnson only appeared three times in the game: Arrival+Sierra 117, beginning of Crow's Nest and before the Brute Chieftain, and The Ark's ending cutscene!

There was a top secret experiment done by ONI to make clones that not only retain the appearance of a person, but also their emotional tendencies.

The Arbiter clones were failures (i.e. missing eye, being inept during battle, standing there doing nothing) and promptly destroyed.

But the Johnson clone you saw in the last level was 100% perfect. Chief never suspected that he was mourning the death of a guy he had never met until now. Of course, ONI's testing experiments resulted in preference changes, which is why he wasn't wearing his sergeant cap or smoking a cigar.

Here's how they swapped the real Johnson with a clone:

ONI suspected that Guilty Spark would turn on them when they heard (from Arbiter) of his gleeful discovery of the second Halo 04. They knew about the Great Schism (see Halo 3: ODST), so how could they not know about Guilty Spark?

They had instructed Johnson not to leave and sent in their best clone to replace him. But the real Johnson disobeyed and stowed away in it with the clone Johnson.

So right now, Johnson's in the same part of the ship as Master Chief and he will be in Halo 4.

Johnson clones? Have not heard of this. Well then, if it is true, then it would be possible. However, at the release of Halo 4, a lot of people who didn't know this would go trolling on it saying Johnson was supposed to die.

GZs house of Payne

Let''s just say it happened your way and here are the problems.
-When johnson fell, that hole wasn't 10ft
-If he was unconscious, it wouldn't be for 5 minutes, if so chief would've taken him
- IF there was a pit, how could he climb out of a 10ft PIT
- So he had time to wake up after being unconscious, make it to where the warthog was, then run all the way back to the crashed pelican and somehow miraculously fix it
-Lastly he was dead

Halo 3 forever!

Dude, just because you for some reason love Johnson, it doesn't mean he's not dead, I think you can just tell he was ment to die in that last scene

Bungie did make a point to have the music all sad and you could tell he was done. If they bring in a Johnson clone... well, that just seems wrong--though possible because cloning is a technology in the Halo universe

  • 06.15.2011 5:05 PM PDT

they didnt expect to do a halo 4, 5, and 6 so they send him off in 3

That is one of the reasons I was skeptical, when Bungie stopped making Halo games and 343 took over

As Spark once put it, "I am a genius".

There's an even better explanation here. But I found it kind of hard to believe, due to Johnson's barbaric nature in the story.

Then again, it's what made me lol. Imagine if Johnson was an ONI operative. Even I was the Chief, I wouldn't want to be around him...

I don't know. If there's one thing I like about stories, it's when they turn out to be true.

Anyways, I just love these stories about the Halo universe that defy accepted canon. They make me lol, especially when they're expertly devised. Sometimes, I find myself wishing that they were true.
