Subject: Yeah... About the Halo Franchise... Is it ruined?

Halo was about the Human-Covenant war and about the Flood and Forerunner technology between it. I don't really know where Halo 4 would be going, but it sounds stupid. As much as I love Halo, and can't wait to play a new Halo game, I believe this is unprecedented. The story of the Human-Covenant war ended with the Elites leaving Earth, no longer hostile to humans, with the Covenant shattered. No more Truth, no more Flood, and no more Halos threatening the Galaxy. Master Chief is now drifting in space now separated from the other half of the frigate in deep space.

Look... Let's face it. Halo: Reach wasn't as epic as a lot of people thought it would be. There was no Master Chief in it, who is the face of Bungie. I was expecting Reach to go about the plotline of the book, The Fall of Reach. Nope. We got Noble team, and a game completely random about Reach, with the entire invasion of Reach downplayed. The events didn't even go along with already-accepted timelines from the book. For those of you who may not have read the books, you will probably enjoy it much more than the game itself.

Don't get me wrong. I love Halo. I love Bungie. I love the Master Chief. But why do big companies have to continuously try to suck as much money out of a franchise as they can, often ruining a great storyline?

I've spent countless hours and many years playing Halo games. After Halo 3, well... To me it began to stop feeling like Halo. I love the story to Halo. It's a masterpiece. Art. But I think it's beginning to go down the toilet.

Wherever the Halo franchise is going next, I hope it won't turn into Call of Duty, and a game is made every year just to suck the money out of people. Please, may the storyline make sense, make it feel like a Halo game.

Either way it doesn't look like the Master Chief got to sleep very long...

How did I escape? With difficulty. How did I plan this moment? With pleasure.

Those looking for a group to join, I suggest you join Gamma Company Spartans (check my groups page). We are a friendly and active community always looking for more members.

Just two more games would be fine with me. Just don't go and ruin it with more games. Nothing past that, just DLCs.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Nah, it's just receiving the same treatment as every sci-fi franchise. Continually adding in ridiculous stuff to expand the universe. Utterly stupid things that it can get away with just because it's sci-fi. And the "fans," will love it.

Star Wars all over again... But without the cool movies.

How about you judge the game after you pllay it? We've only seen the TEASER not even a trailer. Everybody relax. It might be the best Halo yet or the worst. But I, for one, am really glad 343 is making another trilogy. We have barely seen or heard about one of the most important things in the haloverse.

Halo goes far beyond the Human-Covenant War. Hell, the most recent Halo merchandise has basically side-stepped the war in favor of exploring what the new trilogy will likely explore:

the Forerunners and the Precursors.

Nope. Hell I'm more excited then ever. The fiction is now not focused on the Human Covenant War and is exploring different time periods like the forerunners and the UNSC post H-C war. With the addition of the new halo trilogy and the supposed new villain we have a lot to look forward to.

Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

The Covenant, The Flood, Halo. It's over.

No, I think we're just getting started...

If you hop, you'll only die in the air.

Well, this studio helped Bungie with Reach. It is well known that Bungie loves and craddles this franchise, so out of respect i'm sure the makers of Halo 4 will keep to the story line and would listen close to what they have to say....
...Bungie did let the Chief live after all...

Don't know why it calls me rubuilt gymnast 7, it's really UNSC595 in case you were wondering and I have played all of those games online

I hope they stop after Halo 6, because they're already planning that. If they expanded on the Precursors that would be nice...maybe with a game taking place in the Forerunner-Flood War.

fan movies are coming at least (OPchasity, and halo: faith.)

If they are movies they better not be animated garbage. Real actors, cool movie effects. A professional Hollywood movie.

And it would be cool if they made a Halo game about the Forerunner-Flood war. But there really isn't much after the Human-Covenant war. It seems like everything is resolved.

I think a game taking place between Halo 1 and Halo 2 would be cool... The taking of a Covenant cruiser, and the Unyielding Hierophant.

So many of the threads I go to people are retards.

Ok so, anyways. The Human-Covenant war is far from over. They may not have a "Covenant" anymore, but they do have brutes, grunts, jackles, Skirmishers?, hunters all still scattered around the universe. And There are spartans still out there. Not to mention there is still a flood. The flood is just cut off from the rest of life. There are Precursors still alive. And Since there are Shield Worlds maybe some Forunners are still alive. Not to mention the Rebels are now a threat to civil life. There is also the possiblity of... A New Race... In the Shield Worlds maybe. BTW, I theorise the big AZZ blue thing is a Shield World. Onyx, more specifically.

This is why I've been saying 343 should have made a Forerunner trilogy!

Quit all you like. Just be prepared to take a mandatory breather if you quit too often.

As a person who has been banned twice for being lured into replying to spam threads, let me tell you this: It's not worth it. Don't reply to spam threads, no matter how good your intentions are. I have been disgraced. I am ashamed, and I apologize. Don't let it happen to you.

Bungie has said this time and time again.

The events in their games always trump the events in the books. Always. If there are any plot conflicts between the two, the game is always the one that is considered "fact" (as much as a fictional universe can be "fact").

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

That doesn't really make sense without punctuation. Bit ironic considering what you are stating.

Anyway, can anyone here judge if 343i have ruined the franchise ? Nope, not even 343i can as their first full game isn't even finished yet !

I love it when the peasents jump to conculsions, rattling their pitchforks and lighting their torches baying for blood....

Agreed.

New developer.
New trilogy
New opportunities.

Halo in Bungies hands has always been epic as hell, but as a whole the series started to grow stale because Bungie/MS didn't want to step away from what made it so popular.
Times have changed, Halo isn't THE top dog anymore, and the shooter genre as a whole is now incredibly stale.

So if MS wants Halo to be top dog again, they need to make a big leap forwards and with a new developer, new setting, new enemies, basically everything except for Chief being new, they can make that step.

Also: I didn't know Master Chief was the face of Bungie...

  • 06.15.2011 2:09 AM PDT

I have my thoughts reserved for the new Halo trilogy. However, I can say with absolute certainty thtat I despise the new armour they've got John rocking about it.

I don't care what the story is like so long as the multiplayer goes back to it's roots.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I can't judge something I know nothing about, so I won't.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I understand where you're coming from. However, to me it seems as though 343i cares a lot about the story.
