Subject: Forerunners' real "name"

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

EDIT - why it is lame: they weren't always that highly evolved species, protecting the mantle.

There's no guarantee about that, since they were presumably created by the Precursors. Who knows how long that race of people interacted with the then young race, and what the Precursors had in mind for them (maybe, just maybe, the role of a "forerunner").

And yes, it's possible that the Forerunners didn't always call themselves that (but again, I point you to my aforementioned thoughts), but we're talking about millions of years of Forerunner history. I can maybe see a name other than Forerunner before leaving their home world, but given their philosophy I see nothing wrong with their names.

Its actually explained in the later parts of the book. Simply put, the term Forerunner acknowledges that they are a small part of the universe's long history not yet written, and that there will be those that come after them to take up the name of the Mantle's protectors of all life in the universe.

c'mon! really?
that is so lame...

EDIT - why it is lame: they weren't always that highly evolved species, protecting the mantle. they must have another name for themselves. that cryptum explanation is only a cheap way to justify the continuing use of the word forerunner - IMHO

They've been carrying the Mantle for hundreds of thousands of years. Any history pertaining to their original world is lost to them. The Forerunner home world was baked by a supernova, so they've lost everything their.

And if it makes you feel better, Forerunner is the best Forerunner to English translation the AI translator that "published" Bornstellars book could come up with that fit the real word. Read the first few pages of the book, you'll see what I mean.
