Driven to distraction. ^_^

Is the release date international or do non-Americans have to wait longer?

Also, is the AWSOME special edition Halo 2 set available outside the US?

I havn't been able to find definitive answers anywhere so if anyone knows... please post here :)

Yea, I really want to know too. I'm sure Halo 2 is a worldwide release so Nov 9th it is then. So far I can't find an answer but I emailed Game UK about the Special Edition 20mins ago. Here is what I said.

"Well, it's E3 and Halo 2 information is coming fast. The release date is now officially November 9th 2004. They have announced a Special Edition Halo 2 box set which you can see and get the details on here. Please check the link out.

http://www.bungie.net/News/Story.aspx?link=5B522E9E-A265-409E -9267-EB2EDCFD50B4

All of the US sites a very fast at updating there product catologue unlike the UK shops unfortunalty. I am wondering if you have received details about this product and if it will be on sale in the UK. I would buy this in a heartbeat. Might seem over the top but thats just me. I hope I get a good reply from Game UK instead of sorry, we have no idea what your talking about, check out these other games etc... blah blah..... Sorry, but you know what I mean. It's really annoying how the biggest game shop in the UK which is owned by the one of the biggest US games shop Electronics Boutique and seems to be oblivious to the goings on in the game world.

It had to be said.

Anyway. Looking foward to your reply

thanks very much"

Hopefully for once they will know what I'm talking about but I doubt it. I will post the reply when I get it.

later :)

Not that I'm really doubting the answer.... well I am actually as I cant remember a game ever being released on a Tuesday in this country, always a Friday, never a Tuesday. Bungie can re-write this as far as I'm concerned and send it out for release on Tuesday 9th but ALL the stores are gonna have to be clued-up!

maybe the 12th for the UK, someone PROVE me wrong!!! pls

P.S I went into my local GAME store and asked at lunchtime 13:40GMT, first they were rolling their eyes and saying yeah yeah 9th November, right until I gave them a death stare and said it was from Bungie.net and maybe they should be more up-to-date on big game release info. aaaanyway they are getting their marketing stuff thru tomorrow and this should cover the rest of the year for them so they said check back then for a UK release date.

I shall be asking Frankie about this, as well as if the Special Edition will be available here.

  • 05.11.2004 7:04 AM PDT

Ed Fries said that he wanted Halo 2 to be a simultaneous worldwide release, but he isn't at MS anymore, so it's anyone's guess.

I hope it's worldwide. We are always like six months behind here in Australia.

Be it worldwide or not, why take that chance?...

Get your Xbox sorted and pre order from IGN (US). Pay the fee required so that Superman himslelf flies it to your door (could you trust the mail man?) and hey presto! You playin' Halo 2 before anyone else?...
I reckon that if the 9th is for real, us Europeans would get it on the 10th, 11th...

Be it a US version or a UK version it will make little difference once you're playing.

  • 05.11.2004 7:16 AM PDT

There is the whole region code thing. I'm not sure if US and UK have the same code, but I know that Australia is different.

Unless you have a modded Xbox, but let's not go there.

games are normally released on friday in england, so it could be the 12th, but I hope bungie break that routine, I want a worldwide release of november 9...

  • 05.11.2004 7:24 AM PDT

Except for quality (PAL is better quality than NTSC) and XBL play (you'd need to mod your Xbox to play the US version, meaning you can't play on Live).

A UK Xbox wouldn't play a US version of the game if I remember correctly. The Xbox itself recognizes a PAL signal vs a NTSC signal, and the UK Xbox will only play PAL games. So, unless you wanna buy a US Xbox and a TV with a NTSC tuner (or a converter), you're out of luck. (Except if the release date is world-wide.)

I bet that it will be a worldwide release.

Here's my reasoning: Bungie can take over the world better if they do it all at one time, while everyone is inside drooling on their Halo 2 cover.

I still have hopes it will be a worldwide release... Bungie can do it!! The suspense in finding out is still killing me tho! I really hate it when theres a game you want and its released in the US like a month before the UK(Europe) and so I have to try not to read all the stuff on the forums =-(

Either way November the 9th WILL rock.. just maybe not for ALL of us like Bungie said.

I emailed about 5 different online UK stores today to try and get an answer on the release and the special edition version. I'll post if I get any replies from any of them. Thing is though most retailers, as has been said, dont have a clue when it comes to release dates. I even put links in the mails to the bungie announcement and the american eb games page where you can pre order from. Hopefully we will get some sort of confirmation this week.

A little note from Bungie would be nice though,
just saying yes or no. ; )

Hmm the only reason HAlo was late the first time was because we got the Xbox later. Most of the games are pretty close nowadays (it used to be months) take motogp2 for example that was worldwide if my memory dont fail me. I'll just make sure I dont go onto a halo site until i finished it :D

Yeap, it suks that Australia (me), and U.K (lots a people here obviolusly) usually get games like a month or even three months after US do... like we'el suk at LIVE if that happens, cus they'd know everything about the levels, and stregths and weaknesses of guns....

But i have my hopes up for worldwide..... Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow did it, and this is Bungie..... why are we worrying....

The very first xbox live games were region free so it is possible, but yeah if they are region coded disks then to play the US version you will need either a US xbox (coverted to run on UK electricity standards, or a chipped xbox (no Live play).

Personally I think it will be a worldwide simultanious release but I would still like to hear something official.

Frankie should understand, hailing from Scotland.
