Of course it will, they wouldn't be able to sell it if it wasn't backwards compatabile.

I doubt Vista will support older games.

if xbox 360 isn't compatible with all games what makes you think vista will be. i think anything older that windows 95 is getting the boot even though i hope it isnt that way

Of course, it will name all the games that are A+ and played on a window xp or lower, lets see:

doom3
quake4
warcraft3
warcraft3: tf
world of warcraft
starcraft
call of duty 2
fear
The list just goes on and on for how long. Windows Vista won't sell good if its not backwards compatible. People probably won't buy it for 1-2 years if its not backwards compatible becasue they'll be waiting for the great A+ games.

Heyyo,

Right now it's the opposite.. I'm still waiting for more games to be 64bit compatible, cause wow it makes a rediculous difference in preformance.

Btw, there's only a few antivirus programs that are x64 compatible. Both big timers Norton & Mcafee only have special corporate editions that are x64 compatible, so I'm using a free one called Avast. For a free one it pwns avg for sure I say.

x32 games will run on vista cause I can run them on windows xp pro x64 edition no problem. They actually run a bit better than x32 versions of windowsXP.

M$ would be fools not to make it backwards compatible. I'm sure if even m$ did switch to the linux kernel they'd make a kernel32 loader so people could use their windows apps in the linux kernel.. if that day ever came? computers would be much better. The closest thing right now is the new IMacs that will have the ability to dual boot between the MacOS and WinV. That'll rule.

Yes it can support older games. Halo 2 pc probably wont even be 64 bit. Maybe it will have support for both, but if you think about it there are more people with 32 bit cpu's than 64 bits.

Nod32 all the way. Mind you, they should change the 64bit edition to nod64.

Have a look around, you'll find it pwns all other antivirus. I agree that avast is better than AVG, thats beginning to suck.

What console other than ps2 was backwards compatable? Console aren't because it is a cost issue. You want a bwc console, you will pay a hell of alot more for it, and an x360 is pretty pricy as it is.

there will be backwards compatibility for sure. the thing is, is that you have to watch out with older programs. I have a very old wave editing/cd playing suite of programs. the problem is that they were intended for windows 95 with a pentium processor. this creates discepencies between some of the data registers. they could point to non-existant data, or the wrong data. but programs for xp will run like they were for vista. 98 should run with little problem. win 3.1? well all I can say is good luck. dos? ...you just made me crap my pants.

There will be backwards compatability for DX9 (and lower) games, although it will be though software emaulation, which could cause performance problems. I've seen a lot a debate on support for OpenGL, but it should be supported in some form.

ive tried games in windows vista beta December CTP, and at that point games are only partially backward compatible (i.e. lots and lots of bugs.)

this may change.

That explains it well...
I hope its not that pay thing I've seen on microsoft's site.

I might have to get my dad to get a copy from work if I really want to try it.

And mdsn is for developers only. I.e. anything you use from it (you have access to all microsoft software) you have to be actually developing with it.

And its rather expensive.
