How I got mine: Frank Helsing

Hello Gallery,

If you remember, a few months back I posted up some Halo Reach movie posters and a DVD case design. Well, I got some questions about how I was able to do them. If you don't remember seeing them, here's one of the movie posters:

Halo: The Final Conflict

I was able to create this poster by compositing 3 screenshots; a Spartan, an Elite, and the background. Here's the original Spartan image:

Original Spartan Image

I was able to get a blank white background by going into forge and over exposing the sky with the Nova Special Fx. Then, by placing my subjects in the shade, I could keep them from being over exposed as well, making it easy to extract them in Photoshop. If anyone would like to try this technique, I have the map variant in my File Share, it's called Photoshop Studio. Just use it in Forge and when you are done, go into Theater mode and take your screenshots but remember to zoom in with the camera.

Since the background will be white in your screenshots, it's almost impossible to get a good picture of something like an energy sword. I have another map variant where the background is black but you need the Noble map pack to be able to play it. You don't actually need a dark background but to do it without one would require a lengthy Photoshop tutorial.

Well, I hope this helps others out there with their fan art projects. If you have any comments or questions please let me know. Good luck and have fun!

I have to say this is a good map for screenshots.

Quick render mock-up, courtesy of the technique.

Always brings a huge and embarrassing grin of geeky proportions to my face when a new way of taking on pixels is brought to light. Polygonal lasso cutting didn't consume nearly as much time.

Far be it from me to be a burden, but would you happen to have a download location to the darkened variant that was made wind of in the original post? Big kudos in advance for sharing this tool.

Glad it was useful to you! Currently, I do not have the "Dark Room" version uploaded but when I get on XBL tonight I will be sure to stick it in my File Share and update my OP.

Sorry, The Dark Room version of this map doesn't work as I thought it did. The background looks black on my T.V. but when I look at the image on the computer, I can clearly see the background. I'm gonna try and see if I can't get it to work in Forge World some how.

If this is the state of my art, then I secede.

This makes me extremely happy. Thank you so much for this!
