I have a macbook pro and I want to make videos using my mac off my xbox 360. Can anyone tell me what the best system for me to use is? So far Elgato seemed like my best bet.

640x480 resolution.

Very small.

I doubt that that will record in very good quality at all.
I personally don't know of any really good affordable capture cards.

Hey there,

My friend and I both use the Hauppauge HD PVR to record footage for machinimas. It lets you record full 1080i HD footage. It is designed to work for Windows so to get it to work on my Mac I have to run Bootcamp. You can also download a driver from this website to get it to work on your Mac if you do not have Bootcamp.

PROS:
Records HD footage with 3 types of codecs available, available at most Best Buys, Comes with capture software. Also, easy to set up.

CONS:
When recording Halo Reach, you will need to set your Xbox display to 720p to record at 60fps. Also, to view your captured footage on a Mac you will need to download VLC Player and to edit your footage you may need to purchase media conversion software like Popcorn 4 depending on whether or not your video editing software can open .M2TS files (Best recording format for the device).

You may also need to buy another set of HD component cables so you can record and play at the same time. The device only comes with 1 set of component cables. So far, my friend and I have had no regrets and are both happy with our capture devices. I hear the Blackmagic Shuttle is pretty popular too but for the same price, I can pick up the Hauppauge HD PVR at Best Buy and cut out the price of shipping and handling. Hope this helps you out in deciding what device to buy.

Hmmm, not that I can think of no. I think the cheapest HD capture device you will be able to find is gonna be at least $180. Maybe a little cheaper on Amazon or something. Good luck finding one. Oh, word of advice, don't go with the Dazzle Studio HD DVD recorder. It says HD on the box but it's not. Total crap.
