I really wish Eric N. had written it but I'll have to take what I can get. An interview I read last year with Karen about her writing the book kind of put me off...made me feel like she didn't understand Halo that well so...I'm not gonna over hype this for myself.
...
You shouldn't hype yourself over it at all, especially not for the author. And really, she doesn't understand Halo? Did you even read Human Weakness?
No, I haven't, is it a requirement? I said I read an interview with her and it didn't make me feel good about her writing the book. Did you even read my post?

Did you read Ghosts of Onyx?
Yes.
The author can be the biggest dick in the world and yet still write a masterpiece. Just saying. Her past novels speak for themselves. However, I do share some hesitation, but I am curious for the interview. I know certain Star Wars fanboys hate her because her depiction of Mandalorians don't match those of a rejected script for Empire Strikes Back, but that's it really.
And really, if you are going to claim she sounds like she doesn't get Halo, it would be beneficial to read her Halo story too.
I agree, it would be beneficial, but my reaction to her interview would have been nearly the same. Instead of feeling like she doesn't "get" Halo, I'd be asking, "What happened during the time between Human Weakness and Glasslands? Did she forget what Halo was about?"
Despite how good Human Weakness might be, not everything an author writes can be a masterpiece. There are hits, and there are misses. I'm hoping Glasslands will be awesome but, as I said before, I'm keeping my expectations within reach.
Karren Traviss gets into the psyche of her characters, and excells in devoloping them throughout her stories. She usually holds no censors and gets into the -blam!- over how the people feel.
She's also a very descriptive action writer, but can just make a bunch of guys sitting around, bull -blam!- ing at a bar as interesting as an action scene, turning it into a psyche-analysis on all of them. The way she presents characters always keeps me hooked (Human Weakness for one, the Gears of War boos for two and the Star Wars books for third. Even though they're no longer canon on account of the T-canon>C-canon levels, I still read them.)
