I'm not much into the story as deep as some people. Thus im going to ask and see if anyone has any answer.

Does anyone know why the marine armor changed from the bulky brown armor to the green armor?

I can understand why from looking at it. It's bulky and the marines needed something lighter. However what is the story behind it? Or was it just a change never explained?

I don't want to hear that bungie made that change because they had the graphics to make it easier to work with or to bring in a new crowd.

I believe it was just a change that was unexplained. I mean, new game, new looks, i dont think too many people were complaining.

I'm sure UNSC marines use variants of armor.

-Reach armor
-Halo Wars
-Halo 3(most seen)

The Halo CE armor is pretty much replaced by the Reach armor,i'm happy for this cause the old CE armor looked too much like the Alien Marines. Not to mention that a body armor like that gives alot of disadavantages, really it's as if those Marines went back to medieval using simple metal plates instead of advanced armor plates like the new Marine armor.

"Happiness is like glass, you might not always notice it but if you change your view and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light."

I think its a graphical change and to my knowledge it hasn't been explained. I also think that since the Pillar of Autumn was on a high risk mission the soldiers were given better armor that way they could fight longer and defend while the Spartans attacked. It also looks more expensive then the standard armor in halo 2 and unsc needed every resource they can get. Im not a expert on canon so my theory has flaws in it.

  • 06.17.2011 10:27 AM PDT

Halo CE armor looked heavier, as it looked and sounded (when you hit it) to be pure metal.

Most graphic changes don't get explained, as they are simply that, graphic changes.

  • 06.17.2011 10:35 AM PDT

There doesn't necessarily need to be a canonical explanation. The marines in H2 probably look different because H2 has a more powerful engine and as a result, Bungie artists can develop the marine character models more.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

New artistic direction.
I read/heard somewhere that the Reach marines were meant to differ from the Earth marines in terms of armour, intentionally. But with the recent release of Reach, this contradicts my memory.

Most of the soldiers you see in Reach are from the Army

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Different Marines, different armour.

PoA mission. Every soldier past the boneyard area is using the Reach Marine armor.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a series of games created in uninterrupted succession that have all looked as different as the Halo games do. Personally, I loved the old armor (for marines and the MC's) and I wish they had stuck with the original designs throughout the whole series.

Part of it was the 2001 graphics, but the old Chief looked more like a tank than the new one. His armor post Halo 1 looks almost too sleek for me.

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.

Mark V was released in 2551. Mark VI was released in 2552. the VI was most likely going to be released later but due to the Fall of Reach and the Covenant on Earth's doorstep, it was most likely rushed into production and given to our homeboy.

Different variants of armor used in different variants of the human navy/military?

Reach's game used both ODST and 'military police': thus why they only used the DMR and no one else had them.

I could have sworn there was an explanation.... I thought I read something that said the UNSC knew their ballistic plate armour was useless against plasma weaponry and thus upgraded to armour better suited for protection against plasma fire.

The explanation was that Master Chief's armor was beyond repair once he got back to Earth. You hear that at the beginning of Halo 2. Not even something that you have to read the books for. I'm in a state of shock that the members of Bungie Universe have yet to say this. Remember the line "Optics, totally fried, and lets not even talk about the power supply."

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

Stosh hates toast!

In the start of Halo 2 when your shields are being tested, the marines talks with you about the new armor you are just wearing bla bla bla. Other theory is just improvement of graphics.

Edit: Oh, you talking ´bout the marines. Well, probably armor improvements, or just as said before, graphic improvements.

Looking like the Alien colonial marines isn't a bad thing. I like how Halo: CE is kind of a tribute to the Alien films.
