I'm not sure if I have this correct or not, but while watching the brand spankin' new videos, When Joe zooms in on the rocket launcher, it looks like it says "5X Zoom" at the bottom.

I thought that the RL had the same zoom as the pistol, "2X".

If it is 5X, then it will change the way the RL is used.

If true, this is probably necessary considering the size of the new Multiplayer stages. Zanzibar is one of their smaller one's. They claim some are so large that you can't even use the sniper rifle from one end to the other.

What would make a difference is if you can lock on to infantry targets with the zoom function. That would be a bit cheap when combined with the 5x zoom but vehicles are fair game :)

I have a feeling that locking on to enemies is harder than it seems. Vehicles are big enough to keep your reticule focused on, but and enemy all the way across a huge map would be very difficult to lock on to. Also, the reticule doesn't turn red unless you're close in Halo:CE.
So, it probably won't be able to lock on from really far away in Halo 2.

the zoom on the rocket launcher said 5x. in game informer mag the show a pic of the rocket launcher from halo2 and it has 2 barrels just like in halo, but in the demo it looked like that one had 3, does this mean we will now have 2 different kinds of rocket launchers? (regular and tracking)

The Master Chief emerged from his code. After seeing his dynamically lit realtime shadow, he went back for 9 more months of development.

Behold the power of the Originals, the Gods Axeone-Neurone.

No it's two. Notice how fast the rocket hog can fire inbetween shots.

Physics and simple observation indicates that the further something is away from you the slower it is perceived to be moving.

Warthogs right up close in Halo1 are damn fast. Halfway across Sidewinder they seem rather... klunky slow. Getting the reticle on them is rather easy. The problem in the past has been that without tracking, by the time the rocket managed to get to his target he was long gone.

I think this is entirely what tracking was created for, to give Infantry a good chance against the scorpions who just drive about in random patterns ruling the map.
