I mean think about it, they're around 400 years into the future. And yet there weapons seem not as advanced. Look at the M5AB( or MA5B) for example. I know that it was old compared to the BR55 in halo 2 but its still around what 350 years into the future. Compare it to todays weapons. Scopes are becoming common on newer Assult rifles like the newer British assult rifles. Even on submachine gun like the MP5 and P90. And guns are becoming more accurate all the time. Also look at the BR55, guns today can compare to that. You think in around 400 years they at least make a genrade laucher standard.

Hm...no offense, but your previous thread can be used instead of this thread. There's no need to make a seperate post about the same topic. Just try to combine threads into one next time. If you want to talk about weapons, make one post and hold with it. Don't make multiple posts on basically the same topic.

Ya, your right it can be combined with that. Ok, i'll combine it with that thread.

for the most part, at least with personal weapons. yes .... exceptions would be the pistol, the sniper rifle, FRC, Guass Hog, and rocket hog.

there is another way to reduce recoil, but it doesnt eliminate it. The barret m82a1 has a muzzle brake if memory serves, and also a recoil compensating barrel. If i remember correctly when fired the barrel actually slides backward, absorbing some of the force pressing backward on the gun, and the muzzle brake diverts some of the gases behind the bullet backward to attempt to pull the end of the barrel forward. This reduces recoil a bit, and with a .50 caliber high velocity round you'd better hope theres some recoil dampening going on.

As for halo's weapons, they didnt seem all that low-tech to me. For one thing they never jam. wohoo! wouldnt that be nice. No misfires either.

and im gonna fall asleep if i dont stop typing now.

heero signing off.

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

Look at Star Trek: TNG, I still do not understand how they fly in space and crap and wipe and eject the dirty TP

ROFL! machine guns in 400 years time ROFL!!!

Thats the equivalent of modern armies using blunderbuses and flint lock muskets. In 400 years time it will be energy weapons galore mate. Chemical/Kinetic weapons wont last another 150 years let alone 400.
Weapons technology is advancing exponentially.
As a PhD in Astrophysics myself fully qualified in matters of all things science, I can honestly say that its all baloney.

The choice of weapons was not made for future-historical accuracy but rather for gameplay mechanics.

I like how the human weapons are similar today. Imagine if our weapons shot lasers and stuff, like hte covenant, it would just be kinda stupid and toy-like. I think having realistic weapons adds a sense of realism, well kinda like it implies.

Well, still it's 400 years later, there physics must be well hundreds of years ahead. We may not think they're is anyway to improve them, but as science changes and new discoveries are make, the weapon will improve. For example hundreds of years ago, they used a round pebble type bullet in muskets, then a couple hundreds years later in somewhere around 1800-1860 they found using a cone shaped bullets improved the chances the bullet hit. Now another example would be muskets 400 years ago to present day modern weapons. Watch, go back in time, show a weapon developer 400 years ago a mordern assult rifle, and he'd go insane, probably take him a few hundred years to understand how it works. Now in 400 years don't you except that kind of advancement.

You'd think that after 400 years, all our oil and combustible materials would have been long-since depleted. Where is all that gunpowder coming from?

yes compared to perfectdark on the 64 i mean pd has guns that you can shoot through walls the xr220 , a gun that turns to a sentry ,along with assult rifles complete with grenade launchers and yes pistols have scopes theres also a gun that let you go invisible (rcp120) so yes halos guns are close to current guns and not advance halo does not have that much of a selection either

Who knows? Then again, it's just a game.

As for weapons, I think bullets are here to stay.

haha totally agree, maybe he is some kind of weapon freak, its a game anyway, why bother comparing it to real life? its just a game to have a bit of fun, not to compare what weapons will be like in the future...

Gunpowder isn't made with oil, or other rare combustables. It's charcoal and Saltpeter (Sulphur), and Potassium Nitrate (Can be found in old poo.) which are very common minerals. One common midieval [sp?] occupation was for someone to go around the kindom collecting all the poo to get the potassium nitrate. Sodium Nitrate is less commonly used. Think Poopsmith from Homestar Runner.

Charcoal is a fossil fuel... besides the covenant use plasma weapons, and maybe humans use some other firing mechenisam, magnet power is the way to go! ;)

In the halo manual ( i think) it says that they get oil and stuff from other planets than earth, real far away, I think their called the outher colonies. . .

Any way, look at the MAC guns, it sure sounds advanced, shouldent they have come up with something like that for the infantry

Giant space cannon stuck on using superpowerful magnets = ok

Lots of Marines using superpowerful magnets near each other = bad

I have to say, though, the adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' works here cause IIRC usually the marines own the covenant (except on legendary, ahaha... seriously tho) proving they don't need newer weapons.

As for recoil, reeferdude mentioned earlier that some weapons have practically no recoil due to open chamber: there are actually some examples of rocket launchers that use this like the LAW 90. And I think even the SPNKR rocket launcher is open chamber!

Though the fact that rockets should by now be missiles (ie guided) and don't have autoaim is iffy.

One thing really bugs me, though. The assault rifle. COME ON! I know it's due to game mechanics, but SERIOUSLY! The recticule is the size of a bloody MOON! Rifles TODAY are more accurate than that. Rifles that can fire full auto or semi auto have about the same accuracy, if not MORE accuracy than pistols. The first shot on an assault rife, on the other hand, can go ANYWHERE in that bloody circle, and FURTHER shots go OUTSIDE!
IT'S PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR A BULLET TO BE ANGLED THAT FAR OUTSIDE THE BARREL'S POINT OF AIM!!!!!

Seriously. If a gun had that much recoil, given the strength of the MC, the AR would be firing bullets the size of tank shells.

*breaths*

Ok, I'm through.
