Seeing how i have seen 4 people now say they didn't like the book due to the same reason ?(which i will say) and others that didn't like it and why?

People didn't like it becuase

-forerunners acted more like sentient beings than gods

-The flood infestation coming from a powder

-forerunners and humans being on the same level

etc.

I personally feel that the bias of what people wanted the forerunners to be portrayed as and how they wanted the story to go is the reason they didn't like the book. Not to mention the "lack of action" and the sheer amount of information that some people just don't want to understand.

I am going to compare cryptum to halowars in a since that it was something new that wasn't expect therefore people didn't like it. not to mention the book was suppose to tell about the forerunners and not an action book.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

People who dislike it only have that mindset because their preconceptions about a race we knew virtually nothing about was proved wrong.

Come at me, morons.

^^Has hand on dick^^

No, most people who dislike it dislike its convolution and needless manipulation of the backstory. The minute I heard about the Prophets and Humanity going to war with the Forerunners, I knew something had gone terribly wrong.

These constant fallacies must be your way of compensating for your own method of posting, for it seems a little strange and you're a rather strange person.

Please cite a piece of evidence that states the San'Shyuum and humanity were never allied and did not go to war with the Forerunners. Oh wait, you can't, as Cryptum is set and talks about events set before recorded history in Halo. Nothing was "wrong" or convoluted because there was never anything going on at that time before Cryptum.

I really liked Cryptum. It was more dialogue than action, which was what I personally prefer, and it brought us more insight into the history of the Halo universe. It did bring us more questions than answers but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

We should know better, because we are better.

Possibly best Halo book yet, tied with GoO. Not my favorite book though. Story had it's weak points at times, but still a good read.

Coup = Admiral Asskicker, ZPM hive ship

Things wrong:
1. They turned the Forerunners into a race of xenophobic xenocidal maniacs.
2. Humanity was butt[REDACTED] by said maniacs.
3. The Forerunners apparently wiped out the Precursors. Though given The Prisoner LIES...

Things I liked:
1. The Forerunners are now a Cultier [Culture-tier] civilization, their weakest and smallest class of warship is called a Planet Breaker, they have 50km command ships, their average fleet size numbers in the tens of thousands...

2. don't see what is "wrong" with that, seems like your mad at the idea

3. i understand that but it will be explained.

So far so right ajw

Before, the Forerunners were benevolent, caring, upholding the "Mantle".
Cryptum came along, said "SCREW THE MANTLE", and turned the Forerunners into rabid dogs.

I don't think it was ever stated that they were benevolent and caring. I believe that's what people assumed because those are the qualities people tend to think of when they hear about higher beings.

Also it's wrong to think that a whole race would have the exact same beliefs and act the same way. Humanity wasn't wholly united during the covenant war and neither was the covenant and neither did they all believe in the same things. Why should the Forerunners be any different?

Exactly people dislike it becuase it doesn't go with what they thought the forerunners should be like.

Of course, I loved it. It gave us new information about Forerunners that we wished to know! I hope that next book will reveal more.

That was what the Covenant said about the Forerunners, everything the Covenant believed was a lie. There was nothing at all saying they were the wise, kind old grandfathers of the galaxy.

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

This, I found Cryptum incredible and I don't quite get why people don't like the story.

I thought it could have been inferred that the Forerunner were a bit authoritarian anyway, before Cryptum was written.

L: The Mantle. You still hold to
that [fairy tale] after all that
has happened? After this thing has
consumed a million worlds?

Can't you see? Belief in the Mantle
sealed our doom! Weakened our
[protectorates], bred dependence and
sloth. Our [so-called Guardianship]
has stripped those we would keep
safe of any capacity for
self-defense!

I doubt everyone would have been happy with surrendering their independence to the Forerunner.

I thought it was a great story. Of course there are things that need to be explained in the other books. (Such as the change from 12 halos to 7)
