Subject: Halo 2 on Macintosh

I'm going to move this to The Maw, since that is where Halo 2 PC, Halo PC and Halo Mac discussions belong.

As for the subject, Mr. Reiginko has informed me that Havok is not compatible with Macs and they will not pay for it to be converted... So it looks like you are out of luck.

Well, it is possible that Havok may be ported to the Mac, however it remains unlikely.

Tuncer outlined the Havok situation for Mac gamers in this article.

It doesn't look good. :(

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Personally, I'd buy an Apple if Halo 2 came out for it and sell some PC equipment. It will never happen though. Microsoft would never allow Bungie that much freedom. Putting Halo 2 on Macs would sell Macs, and Microsoft isn't going to give the farm away.

It still pains me when I think about how sucessful Bungie could have been if they hadn't sold out to Microsoft...and fans of both platforms would be happy. Hmmm....that 20 dollar M$ stock aint looking so good now huh?

personally, i dont care if they release it for mac or not. i hate macs, never will use one, but why in the world would i want a game to not be released for the mac? i dont have a burning desire for it to be released for mac, but i also dont want it to never be released for mac. i just dont care really.

Theres a difference between halo 1 and halo 2 here. Halo 1 didn't rely on anyother software to work. Halo 2 uses havok, and if the makers decide not to make a mac version, then theres nothing bungie can do.

Bungie is owned by MS, and Bungie makes Halo, and Halo 2, and since they have a MS team helping Bungie, i'm gonna take a wild guess and say that for now a Mac version is out of the question, and since they are using H2 to push Vista, i dont see why it would come to the Mac...

Microsoft wants Halo 2 to encourage current Windows XP users to upgrade Vista. Microsoft generally doesn't expect many Mac users to adopt Windows, so they wouldn't really lose any Vista sales if Halo 2 were ported to the Mac. It would bring them more revenue, thanks to all the Mac users who would buy Halo 2 for their computers.

Windows isn't Microsoft's only product. They make quite a nice profit from the other software they sell for the Macintosh (Office, Virtual PC, most of their games, etc). As counter-intuitive as it may seem to some of you, developing software for the Mac does make sense for Microsoft.

Although if Halo 1 is any indicator... Halo 2 will eventually come out for mac.. which will probably be sometime after MS has squeezed all the juice out of it that ms would care for.

If Halo 2 dont come out to Mac, im sure some mac users would buy virtual PC ( vista I guess) for Mac.
but still, hope it will work for Mac.

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition
Display Type: LCD Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Depth: 32-bit Color

Of course I think they should. Microsoft has nothing to lose by porting to the Mac– they port their whole Office suite to Mac and they allow Virtual PC to include the Windows operating system, (sure, they get a licensing fee).

But will Havok be ported? If it's as hot as it seems, perhaps Mr. Jobs will $pon$or it's port so that all the nifty games based on it will run on the Mac. Or he'll come up with something better, port it to the PC and end up owning the game market.

I just read the article mentioned about the possiblity of Havok coming to Mac. I see it differently: It's already been ported to Mac. They want 6 figure for it. Mac developers can't pay that. They'll settle for less. They've already done the work. Something is better than nothing. I can tell my boss I want a billion $. But I'll settle for what he can afford to pay.

Oh, by the way, Macs are not slow.

Heyyo,

Do you really think the stupid little IMACs at school are the only macs? It ain't a gaming pc. The G series macs are gaming machines that pwn. They don't need nearly as strong hardware-wise computers to run games as us windows users need cause of how much more efficient the MacOS is since it's built off Linux. Sheesh, lots of you guys are hella ignorant. Do some studies before you run your mouth like a fool there halo "master". ;)

Keep in mind that in the same spirit of the Vista releas of Halo 2 for PC, the Mac verion would undoubtedly be inclined to be made for the IntelMacs.

I would love that. IntelMac mini (2nd or 3rd gen) connected to a 55" HDTV with WiFi controllers. Sign me up. *drooling*

Heck! I'd bypass the 360 & PS3 if IntelMacs get game industry attention. M$ and their new console licensing can kiss my not paying a$$. Double shoulder buttons.... not for xbox1....buggerfuggenblaaaaahozers!
I got your white and black buttons, right here!
