"I'm sorry man, I don't even know why I got in on this side... SHOTGUN!!!"

Anyone ever wonder about the design of armor in the Halo Universe?

For example,
Why does the EVA helmet have such a large visor? The way I see it your field of view doesn't stretch that far, so why would it be so large?

What's with the prongs on the JFO Pauldrons? And wouldn't those cuffs get caught on something?

How would a SPARTAN carry all that ammunition if he/she didn't carry ammo pouches?

Most of these are just for aesthetic design, but try be creative with your ideas as to why. Bring up your own questions and/or anything else you find interesting about armor throughout the Halo games.

Yep....

Well Master Chief's Mark V armor had pouches.

What gets me though is the starry night teaser for Halo 3. How the hell did Master Chief obtain that bubbleshield he threw? He had no pouche.

:/

Warthogs have no storage for things like that.

its probobly like stormtroopers in star wars, they have almost hidden clips and reach has eqitment storage!

What a waste....

Warthogs are completely exposed to fire...

Why doesn't Visor Color change the colors you see?

How does GUNGNIR see the same as everything else, I mean, if it uses a camera, there should be some technological pizzazz to it.

ive thought of that before because your spending decent money on these visors just for looks

It's just a bit off to me. John didn't have any visible pouches on his Mk. VI yet he managed to carry all that ammo.

The design of the Mk. VI is pretty form fitting too, So it's really hard to picture them being hidden that armor.

We could just resort to saying it was magic.

Teheheh yeah. I suppose it's better than seeing an awkward Chief running around and searching on the ground for convenient ammo lying around.

Mc just works bullet magnetism in all new purpose.

But for the eav thing, normal helmets do not allow you to see so much up without bending your neck, and also other helmets do narrow down your field of sight a bit. But why did unsc develop the "pilot" helm, if eva seems to be better in all ways :)

Ah, good point.

The Pilot helmet however, actually seems illogical. Take a profile shot of your character with one on, the helmet looks like it has no space for your chin, nose or forehead. I think it's just a coding issue though, seeing as there is so much space in the back.

The EVA helmet works on the same principle as an astronaut's helmet. It's possible to move your head slightly within it. When combined with using your eyes to look certain directions it allows a greater field of vision than with a helmet with a smaller visor. The reasoning behind that is due to the nature of space itself. It's space, threats whether they be sentient or static can come in from literally any angle and the smaller one's field of vision is the more hazardous it can be. Hence why the EVA helmet has such a large visor because it removes the flaw of having a lack of peripheral visor that comes from helmet's with a smaller visor.

with Stealth's logic, does anybody consider it a drawback to wear something such as a RECON or CQB helmet in the field? Where the field of view would most likely be greatly reduced?

The part of your eye that grants vision is the retnis (I think thats what its called), if you close one eye, and leave one eye barely open, you can still see. If the GUNGNIR's visor is the size of one retnis/retina, you can see perfectly.

I only fear God...

Man of Steel

Maybe in the Halo Universe SPARTANs use different helmets in different situations.

For example a SPARTAN who is in a recon op would use the Recon helmet because the smaller visor has smaller surface area which in turn means less reflection. That same SPARTAN would switch to EVA if he/she was required to do some deep space operation. If they were in conventional battle against an enemy they would wear the standard Mark V/ Mark 6.

I believe the resources to switch helmets in different combat situations would only be available before the Covenant/Human war, during the insurrectionist revolution.

In my mind its cool. Just don't question it.

Time to get a drink and watch the world burn. Or deal with it.

The EVA helmet's large visor may also be a way to see the Spartan if he need to be retreived in space. Remember how shiny it is?

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

EVA is a repurposed fishbowl.

No, but seriously though, it's meant to resemble the bubble-like helmets worn by modern day astronauts. There's probably a reason for why NASA designed them that way.
