Unfortunatly there won't be any gameplay changes to CEA.
I'm saying unfortunatly, because I too encountered some of the problems the OP found. And mind you: I play through the entire series at least once a year...so I've been playing CE for countless hours over the past 10 years.
Even though I would like to see Plasma's explode a bit faster, see boarding being introduced and to have destructable vehicles, I can live with them not being introduced or changed.
What I can't grasp however, and think is absolutely stupid, is that they didn't even change the controls. And I'm not talking about the controlscheme, but the responsiveness. Because going back to CE means floaty unresponsive controls controls compared to the modern standards.
This once again means the SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW Ghosts, hovering 2 meters in the air and being unable to make a proper stop.
This once again means Hogs that feel heavier than the Scorpion and that just don't steer as tightly as they do later on in the series.
This once again means floaty controls when jumping....looking forward to that annoying rock-ledge jump in Two Betrayals just before that big battle with the Covies and Flood, for example....NOT.
Don't get me wrong: I love how they don't add anything that shouldn't be there. Or how they try to keep things as original as possible. But the controls should change for sure, because it is absolutely unacceptable to bring a game onto the 2011 market with controls that are far below standard.
That, and the foresight of my plowing through in a couple of hours because I know exactly how it plays bother me a bit.
