It's not the rules that are strange, it's just the way you interpret them.

Carrots.

Exuse me, but is that insulting bungie? Or the rules? Or the modderators?
Well, the rules dont lock things, modderators do... Also, there is a very fine line between bumping and spamming, sometimes I beleve bumping is spamming.
At the end of the post, you quote:
Thank you bungie, and your increadibly strange rules.
Well, the rules are not strange, they are normal, if you dont like them, I do not want to sound mean, but deal with them.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Bungie controls everything. You have no rights. Play nice.

Those are the rules. Nuff' said.

One of the things i cannot stand is the rule against bumping. WHY IS IT SO DAMN BAD!!

Seriously, it is alot better than making a new thread all together, isnt it? I see people doing that constantly on the forums, but when someone doesnt want to do that and conserve space, they bump the topic and it gets locked? This rule needs to be removed becuase it has no reason for being backed, and has no negative consequence if someone bumps. Although, there is a borderlined between bumping and spamming. You can judge that youself. But i let my topic get to the fourth page and then i bumped it so people didnt miss what i was trying to say. I was looking for other players like me, and becuase i didnt want to miss any possible hits, my topic gets locked. Of the 6 forums i go to, this is the ONLY one that locks bumped topics.

Thank you bungie.net, and your incredibly strange rules.

In general its a bad idea to post two times in a row in your thread. If you have some really important information you can make another post, but for nearly all circumstances its better to make an edit in your last post. Posting just for the purpose of bringing your thread to the top is bad. It's not fair to other topics in the forum for you to bump.

Bumping is a rule to prevent people who just want their topic on the front page at all times from just keeping it there. If a topic was sunk down, then you can make a new thread, provided there isn't another one about it already. But if bumping were legal, people would begin doing everything in their power to keep their threads alive. Half of the time on several forums members would simply bump their own threads, regardless of whether or not something is on-topic.

In short, while the rule may seem unneeded because it is in place, removing the rule would demonstrate just how important it is.

Dura lex, sed lex.

You misinterpret the rule. Publicly admitting that you are bumping something is indeed against the rules because it's spamming and asinine. However, as any experienced member of these forums will tell you, as long as your post gives the impression of actually contributing to the thread, it not only adds to the conversation, but bumps that thread as well.

In other words, it's not OK to make worthless posts just to bump a thread, but it is OK to bump the thread by adding something worthwhile to it.

Bumping is when you post repeatedly in your thread to keep it on the front page. Not sure why you think it's strange that it's against the rules to do that. And as long as you contribute, post away (Mind the Edit button though! Don't post "So that's why he fell." Then post again and say "I forgot to add, his show was untied at the time." Just edit the first post). Bumping is just spam though.

Here's the thread he's complaining about.

Double post + pointless bump = locked

And I wouldn't have it any other way. Threads die for a reason.

If no-one has responded to your post then they're not interested.

But how do they get interested if they never see it? the thing is, i didnt do it constanly. I know how to bump within reason. I waited until my post hit the 4th page, and it took 24 hourse to do so. So what, i bumped it after a day. How many of you guys read to the 4th page?

ps: I know it seems that i am trying to fight you. But i understand where you are coming from. But i dont think you understand where i am coming from. I am NOT going to post every 5 minutes to keep it on top. Whenever i remember the topic, i will see how far it is down the line, look at how long its been since it was last posted in, and then make the decision to bump it, usually with a time limit of 24 hourse or more.

I agree with the anti-bumping rule. It forces us to try to create topics that appeal to a wide variety of people and it keeps endless numbers of Chuck Norris threads from staying on the first page. There is nothing wrong with starting a new thread, and there is a limit to how many threads you can start a day. There are so many threads in the Flood and Zanzibar that the anti-bumping rule is helpful. I see the point you are trying to make, but you may be more reasonable than many of the people who would bump. The rules are not made for the most responsible members; they are made for people who will try to spam, flame, or in some other way do damage to b.net.

I understand why you think this. But what good whould it bring the poster to make a new thread that is already there? Considering you have probably got over 1000 how do you put b.net next to my name threads. But if you took all those threads, and made them one, that is what you would get from bumping things. That is why you dont see any repeats of the sticked threads, becuase they are there fro everyone to see, so no one will remake them.

Bringin back an old thread makes it so you dont have to make a completely new one everytime someone wants to know the information. creating a much less cluttered environment, and a less bogged down forum.

For some reason, we dont seems to have these problems on other forums (especially halo2sucks.com). We lock any repeats and link the person to the previous thread discussing it. Although that would be kinda dificult considering the number of people coming in and out of these forums.

Absolutely. We generally try to leave a message or two in the threads, but sometimes it's just not possible.

Hardly. I didn't even want the job, I was nominated for it by others, as were most of the moderators. I accepted because I felt I should contribute in what way I could.

I've actually been reprimanded by Achronos hisself, so I doubt it was a case of ass-kissery.

Sorry you had to see that. I kinda got ticked off when it was locked for something that i am so used to doing with my topics.

Anyway, i understand, maybe warnings should be given out firsthand, stating the rules, and if it is a repeated thing, then lock it. Becuase you are bound to know and recognize a topic if it has 3 or 4 of the smae persons posts in it.

But i understand. Whatever you think is best for the forums.

PS: It seems that these forums have matured since my last visit. The last time i was here, i tried to post about some problems with the halo 2 online play and it got flooded with flames, and when i tried to fight back, the topic was locked by a MOD who thought it would be great to put on an example of how to flame me, and run scared by his locking action. when i went to find the post again a couple hours later, it was deleted. I decided to wait a while before returning and attempting to post anything bungie negative again.

Actually, it's because you are in the Septagon, which is practically filled with mature members. Other forums have few mature members, and many jerks.

And the only problem is that the rules are up there, in a sticky. People are expected to read the rules before posting, since they are right there. So restating the rules should not be something that needs to be done in the first place. Breaking the rules, regardless of whether or not it is intentional, is grounds for consequence. In this case, bumping is going to get a thread locked, regardless of the discussion.
