Yesterday, I decided to load in some good old halo 3. I found out that in games I go positive I get hatemail and games I go negative (most of them now) I get hatemail. Literally, all but one game I have played I got someone messaging, telling me I suck. They were mostly Europeans who couldn't even speak proper English (and I guess can't afford Reach). The intensity level was so high and I just didn't understand it.
Well...see my other problem was teammates who were griefing and just shooting me in the back or AFK. One game (I think on High ground), I had a kid follow me and try to steal my kills and get me killed. Every game involved something stupid one way or another. A kid jumping pretending to turbo, or a kid deciding to chuck grenades at our team the whole time. Then there was the one social match I played where I was just messing around trying to escape it all. No one really did anything annoying, but it turned that the other team had tryhards that felt the need to start a -blam!-storm and get their friends to all message me at once. All of this is because I am a 50 I suppose, but all of it was unnecessary. It ruined the whole reason I came back. I'm not the best player, and certainly worse then I was back when I boosted with my brother, but all I wanted was to have fun. I found a couple kids who were in a similar situation to me, but bad teammates ruined our chances of getting a decent experience. I don't mind going negative or any of that, but it didn't even feel like the same vibrant game. Sure the game always had derankers here and there and kids mad that they couldn't get 50s, but this was no the same. It felt like a dead game.
It's sad to see that the Halo 3 community is dying when it is still ONLINE, and that people still abuse a nearly four year old game. Halo 3 is my favorite game of all time, and I personally think it's better than Halo Reach. The matchmaking was special, and it really pushed everything Halo 2 did to new limits. Goodbye, Halo 3, may you RIP.
